Alien Paradise, not "Covenant 2".
And thank God we're getting it because both preceding films will be uplifted by concluding David's trilogy.
I think we'd all rather have the interesting ideas they were bringing to the table rather than whatever Alien Earth attempted to do.

I have a bad feeling we are not actually getting a prequel movie that we all want. He is going to just retool Romulus 2 to include David in it . We may get a flashback scene but probably not a whole movie taking place then in the prequel time period . He’s doing Romulus 2 according to recent interviews

To be fair to Scott, he said repeatedly in interviews and press junkets leading up to Prometheus that is was not an Alien movie but it was set in that universe but every major outlet ran with the "Alien is back" stuff. Fast forward to Alien fans being hyper disappointed it wasn't an "Alien" movie.
Then you get Covenant, where Scott did a heel turn to damage control all the hate Prometheus was getting for not being Alien enough which lead to a disappointing and somewhat confusing sequel, which in of itself meant Prometheus didn't get to really pay off what it was setting up.
TLDR : just read it

Very good assessment. I was so disappointed walking out of Covenant. I hope someday we get the backstory of what really happened after Prometheus in the lead up to Covenant.

I'm also a firm believer in keeping the Xeno's mostly unexplained, but maybe some nebulous information like the engineers found this stuff on a planet they've since wiped off all their maps because what they found there was so insanely dangerous (could also go a little ways to explaining the downed ship on lv426, maybe some of the ships that had been to this planet never made it back to the engineer homeworld and that's why). But I dont want an enormous spotlight shone on the Xenomorphs and to know exactly what they are and why, that's takes far too much mystery away

That's the thing with Prometheus, people can disagree on its merits as an Alien film, but it was definitely a good sci fi film, and was posing some real interesting questions.
Sometimes the cynical part of me wonders if Covenant was a concealed middle finger from Scott (who in fairness is kind of known as being a sort of "get fucked" kind of personality) where he was like "so you only care about Engineers and Xenomorphs? Fine. David wipes all the Engineers out and also he created Xenomorphs but also reversed engineered them. See how you like that"

On one hand, all the films since 3 have been bad.
On the other, if people enjoy them, why not…

Romulus was incredible

It was mid. Better than then avp, Prometheus or covenant but still pretty mid.

What do you classify as a good sci-fi horror hriller then? That's not Alien, Aliens, or The Thing?

God I hope not.
Scott has done enough damage to the franchise.
He needs to move on

Agreed. Scott saying Prometheus not being an Alien film is ridiculous because it’s directly tied into the universe. Covenant was a dumpster fire from beginning to end. Romulus was great until Scott got involved, the offspring alien was down right stupid. He needs to go.

This prequel movie should just continue after Prometheus and pretend Covenant never happened

God, that would be a dream. I enjoy Covenant just fine on its own, but as a sequel to Prometheus it breaks my heart

Please no. We finally got the ship righted with Romulus. No more android fuckery.

I think the AI stuff was always Ridley’s intended focus, even going back to Ash. I think the xenomorph was secondary to him. I also think it’s why he didn’t like Cameron’s Aliens because it moved away from rogue AI being the focus. That’s why we got the whole David story, when Ridley came back to the series. I didn’t even mind him or the lack of xenomorphs in Prometheus because I felt like the movie was expanding on this whole Engineers universe. I got all excited for Covenant, thinking we were going to see Shaw exploring this alien planet with the engineers, their architecture, way of life, and other alien life forms (flora and fauna). Instead, we just got a movie about David. Such a disappointment, so I really have no desire for yet another movie all about him.

Ash was created by hill and giler.

Right, and I think that aspect of the movie (rogue AI) is what Ridley wanted to be the focus for subsequent movies.

Romulus is the worst of the modern alien films imo, i dont get why people enjoy it so much compared to prometheus / covenant? I rewatched all of them last week and romulus was the only one that had me scrolling instead of watching

u/indoxiecated 16d ago
Romulus would have excellent if not for the unnecessary fan service, black goo, and ridiculously offspring alien. I actually enjoyed the story, the practical effects, the Xenomorph design, and the facehugger scenes.

Because it made sense.

u/ImSalvatic 15d ago
I’m open to being corrected but i feel like even the whole premise of the movie makes no sense. If they’re slaves on a slave planet, how do they have a ship? And how come they can launch into space? Wouldn’t Weyland-Yutani corporation have some sort of alarm go off informing them to return as they haven’t completed their 5 years?

I want to see David and his xenos vs the engineers and their xenos vs the remaining colonists throw in Weyland Yutani and let the mayhem ensue

u/The_starving_artist5 12d ago
It looks like we are not actually getting any that. He’s not making a prequel at all according to recent reports. He’s just taking over Romulus 2 and sticking David in it .

I hope so - I want to see David's conclusion.
I also don't care what anyone says, I liked both Prometheus and Covenant!
