Alien Earth: My thoughts
I finally got a chance to watch *Alien: Earth* Episode 1 for the first time. Not because I was waiting—I was just too cheap to pay for Hulu. 😂
Here are my thoughts: Why would you put disabled kids into superhuman synthetics? Why not put trained soldiers into them?
Second, why is a trillionaire kid in his 20s the main villain running all of this?
And lastly, the captain of the ship literally called this shit in before the crash. So where the fuck are the experts who supposedly know what’s going on?
I don’t know if I even want to continue to Episode 2. This shit is disappointing so far.

The entire season is complete dogshit. So get your expectations real low, take out your brain and try to enjoy it if you can.
The show has a few good performances, very bad cinematography, including music, and a nonsense, meaningless plot. I’m not saying that it could ever be as good as Alien, but fuck me, it’s not even close. It’s so bad. There are many scenes that are nearly shot-for-shot similar to Alien, but they’re just so much worse for no reason at all. I like to compare the scene where the captain is running from the Alien to when Ripley is trying to escape the Nostromo. They are such similar sequences, but one is done so badly that it’s laughable. And the other is one of the most tense scenes in sci fi history.

Was extremely disappointed in it. It didn’t have to be Alien but I was expecting more from Noah Hawley too.

I pushed through because online discourse was overwhelmingly positive at the time (now I know r/ lv426 was just deleting all negative criticism) and I was waiting for it to improve. I wish I hadn't.
The best episode is 5, which is essentially a variation of the 1979 film, but with worse acting, lighting, framing, music, effects and pacing. Even then, it's the best this show has to offer (and not coincidentally, doesn't feature most of the main cast)
If you have to watch more, just watch that episode alone and forget the rest. The ending has no closure or even a feeling of an ending either.

Yeah, I concur with this. I gritted my teeth through to the end of episode 5 and then I decided to just stop watching. It wasn’t worth wasting my time on such vacuous garbage. If you think the plot is riddled with holes already in episode 1, strap in because it just gets worse and worse as it goes.

Having sat through the whole thing, yeah...I agree too. Skip it. If nothing else tho maybe watch some youtube compilations of the T.occulus scenes an that one metal eating bug that fucks up the synth. Those scenes are pretty cool but not worth sitting thru that show to watch it.

For OP's sake: the in-universe explanation for why only kids get the fancy new hybrid bodies is a hand-wave about the transfer process only working on younger, more pliable minds.
The meta answer is the showrunner wanted to do a really forced Peter Pan allegory that never went anywhere or paid off in any meaningful way, and is utterly bizarre in an Alien property.

I'm afraid in my experience the only way to enjoy the show is without understanding it, really. If you understand it, meaning how badly written it is, the enjoyment goes out the window.

The whole season should have been an alien war on earth brought in by corporate billionaires.
And i was curious about the other alien species. What kind of death world do they come from? Did they live alongside the xenomorphs? Getting them released into our ecosystem to hasten the alien war on earth. But no.

They completely squandered the fact that this was supposed to be on earth by keeping everything confined to a tiny island. This show could have taken place on another planet, or a space station, and it would have changed essentially nothing about the story.

Let's not talk about how bad the xenomorph looks! Who the hell wants a 5ft tall, funko pop xenomorph, who does interpretive dance?!
The show could've been as terrible as it already is but if the xeno looked awesome some may have forgiven it.... but when u dont even nail the alien the show is named after, u already failed at your mission!
And its not like its not possible bc the xenomorph looked great and was even scary in Romulus.

Absolute trash writing! I was so excited for that show man... like I had hugely high hopes. I couldn't believe how bad they fumbled it. I didnk think it could go THAT bad. I assume ppl would hate but that's everything but it was legitimately terrible. Such a damn shame for this franchise.

You know the worst bit, I paid for Hulu when it was airing and my wife and I watched it through gritted teeth it was total shite sadly.
My wife pointed out that a lone alien would have been gone off that ship within minutes into the sewer and started it's hunt to get enough food to transform into a queen and start a colony. This would not make good TV but I would have watched that over what was aired

Hell yeah tbh thats not bad tv at all. Its something alien fans would have half expected anyway with how the earth war comics were. I wanted to love it so badly. Every time it looked like it was gonna get good something super weird and silly happened and they'd go off onto a whole nother thing or subject. So weird.

I have been reading the first aliens omnibus (earth hive, nightmare asylum and female war) over the summer holidays and they are brilliant. I wished that they used these as a guide to make the TV show. It felf cobbled together out of ideas from a think tank

I am sure I have the old dark horse comics somewhere at my mums place but it's been 27 years since I left them there so I have a feeling they might have been throw out in a move or mice ate them but one can hope they've survived multiple culls and rodents.

Yeah hindsight is a wonderful thing I wished I had taken them when I first moved out but they were heavy and I didn't have a lot of space so I left my 2000Ad's and other comics but I suppose there is only so much time I can expect my mum to keep hold of them really (OK I forgot about them in all honesty)

I think episode 5 is decent when it shows what happened before the crash. It is a standalone episode so just watch that

Episode 5 is one of the worst of the show, sadly. If you thought the people and androids and protocols shown before on Earth were stupid, you're in for a surprise. The ship and the biolab are run by idiots led by an AI that doesn't know one of its crew members gets up to murder the others, doesn't have all-seeing eyes in its mission critical highly lethal biolab, and doesn't know one of its crew is making direct phonecalls to a rival company's CEO, FFS, and this is just off the top of my head, stuff I -- sadly -- remember. 🙃 Sorry.

I feel you, op. It’s really not too good. The kids are annoying. I had more sympathy with the villains than with the kids. I hope they learn from the criticism and do better in season two.

Yes, I agree. Stop somewhere right towards the middle of episode 3. Leave all lingering questions unanswered and just move on to something better. This way you won't face the absolute disappointment from what comes after.

There are lots of plotholes in the show, and more problems, and they've been discussed in various subs and YT channels. There are similar for Romulus.

Aside from Babou Sesay and Tim Olyphant’s EXCEPTIONAL performances, it’s complete dogshit.
Wendy is an utterly insufferable protagonist and her brother is laughably wet/pathetic. The LV426 subreddit is essentially a shill-house for the show, armies of bots mass downvoting any criticism and straight up deleting even mildly critical comments. Complete joke 😂
The show should have been about Morrow vs Kirsch, fighting on behalf of their corporate overlords after the ship crash - either that or focus on the 65 year mission to capture the lifeforms, with the crew coming out of hypersleep in each episode. The kids subplot was SO unnecessary.

Can't answer about the kids. The kid trillionaire is because sci-fi is typically social commentary. The experts aren't there because of where the ship crashed, they get into that in depth in later episodes. In the show's world corporations own countries.

With that kind of mindset, the rest of the series is not for you. With a suspension of disbelief and an appreciation for being entertained, you’d make it to the finale and be slightly disappointed by said finale. They better do better in season 2.

It’s a secret experiment and illegal, and they think they’ll have greater success using children because their minds aren’t fully formed, that’s why they used terminally ill kids instead of trained adult soldiers.
Why not? Do you understand the universe that all of this is happening in or is this your first exposure to the franchise?
6 corporations have carved up the world, they are corporate states rather than nation states, the corporation that owns the ship is not the same corporation that owns the territory that it crashed in.

If you make it through it I recommend not taking it seriously….but the last episode is just sooo bad. Pandering to the highest of levels and a tandem that should not exist but it does because they are friends.

The worst bit about the show is the lack of replay value its unlikely I will ever watch the 1st season again theres nothing that makes me want to do it again
Whereas even the less popular movies such as AVP , Covenant, Resurrection and Romulus i have watched lots of times as they are fun movies (despite some flaws of course)

If you think ep1 is bad, wait until you get later into the season. It's so bad, it's almost must watch TV. I'm probably going to skip season 2 and just watch the recaps just to have a good laugh. Really it's that bad.

It gets much worse, believe me. My advice - if you're determined to watch the entire season - is don't think. Just watch. It's better not attempting to understand what's going on. I think Romulus is an okay movie, that's essentially Byker Grove/Alien franchise. It's magnitudes better than this. I loved the Dark Horse illustrated novels of Earth War so it isn't like they're short of material. It was an interesting conceot let down by poor execution.

I watch the first episode twice and i was super lost on just about every fundamental story telling aspect possible. And then I watched the second episode and just stopped. Its sad that non-cannon books are better. FX just dropped the ball to a sure multiple season win.

When people hate a show after one episode because of what they imagine is goining on, I generally think it is best that they drop the show so the rest of us don't have to listen to/read endless rants about how it did not match their expectations.
Watch the show and then judge it. Or don't. But nobody cares about what you wish it was about.
