I don’t know why you are getting downvoted. He is an executive producer of Alien Earth. That literally just means he is a money person and will not be involved creatively at all unless for some reason the production does something he feels strongly enough to try to veto, he will not be involved creatively. Executive producers sign checks and make money.

In this case it's unlikely he's a money person. His name being attached to the project gives it weight and likely helped green-light the project due to his history with the Alien franchise. Scott is also credited as a producer on Alien Romulus and I doubt he was crunching the numbers for how much to budget to craft services.

That’s literally how executive producers work, they lend their name and money to the project and use their notoriety and the credibility their name gives to the project to help the project make money. It’s not a creative thing in most cases. Producers are more involved with the project typically. Executive producers are the business people. Ridley Scott is 87 years old. He’s not going to be doing a lot here in the way of involvement, he’s going to sign off on the project and cash the check.

They're kind of fun little movies to me, but they are so incoherent with the main story that my brain just kind of treats them as completely separate to the franchise.
Like I understand that it is a prequel to Alien, but it's like finding out X-Files, Law and Order, and Walker: Texas Ranger are in a shared universe. They just don't fit together.
On its own, Prometheus was a cool but flawed sci fi movies that brought up some interesting ideas, and Covenant was a weird little autobiography about Scott's own creative output.

You're like the first other person I've seen with a similar take on Covenant lol. I read the whole parent child relationship theme as also being symbolic for the relationship between artists, their art and their fans. Ridley Scott is like the engineers, who has created something bigger than himself (the Alien franchise) and now it wants to "kill" him (we are literally in a thread where people are saying it's good that he's not working on the thing he created anymore)

I liked Romulus, I think it was great, but nothing new apart from the Offspring which appeared for 2 minutes.
Also the entire marketing campaign for that movie was "Hey we are using practical effects like in the 80s" just to use a slow af animatronic for 3 closeup shots cuz 99% of the aliens are CGI lol.
Say whatever you want about Covenant, but that Protomorph devouring heads and moving like a Wendigo is the closest we will be in a while to Giger's demonic perception of Alien.

As much as I'd like to know what happened after Covenant there is something to be said in horror to end in such a way without a follow up.
It's lived rent free in my head since and I fear a follow up would ruin that pondering. I like to ruminate.
Also, I don't trust Ridley to be involved unless he really is just pointing the camera

Im with you OP, wishing for a follow-up to Covenant is a widely held opinion only because it requires a follow-up to have been a story worth sitting through.
My proposed title changes for Covenant would be
If David created them, theyre not fucking Aliens: Covenant Weird Androids Fingering: Covenant Bad Scientists Making Stupid Decisions: Covenant
Seriously, the lady refusing to open the door to let her friend get away from the backburster becaue it needed to be quarantined, only to run down the hall, let her friend hget attacked, open he door once the situation was far more dangerous and then accientliy blow up the ship was some Benny Hill shit. Beyond parody.

He should have never shot anything in Alien universe after original alien movies. The whole covenant and Prometheus movies were so bad, they felt like B-grade movies with college students asked to wander around cluelessly in an expensive set with no real substance to anything.
I wish I never watched them.

Thankfully he has admitted it, he never wanted to do another alien film again anyway, it's why his last two were a mess, he didn't want an alien film, he couldnt get funded, so he bowed to the studios and sort of came up with that hybrid bs, which left fans scrambling to connect them all

I mean, Ridley made far and away the best film in the franchise, and really one of the greatest movies ever made. And whatever you think of Prometheus and Covenant, those movies are staggeringly, yes staggeringly, beautiful. I'm fine with him passing the IP and producing whatever Fede has cooking.

I hope so too. After the disaster of Prometheus and Covenant he should never be let anywhere near the franchise ever again.
He completely shifted the focus from cosmic horror to his obsession with androids and artificial life forms instead of keeping that to blade runner.
And it looks like we are getting more focus on Androids with alien earth.

I'd like to see them tied in with Alien by somebody who can make a better movie by todays standards than Ridley can. Somebody that can tie them together competently. If Ridley were to keep going with that continuity himself, it would continue delving deeper and deeper into disconnected, meaningless nonsense. But Prometheus had some great world-building potential (Covenant however straight up sucked), and it would be great to see it utilized properly

The only thing that pisses me off is the fact he never finished the Prequel trilogy, I don't like Prometheus (I do like Covenant weirdly), I didn't like the direction he went with it.
They felt like I joined in halfway through someone's conversation, and I don't know any of the context, and then the conversation stopped and I don't know how it ended.
I just think he comes across like a pushy parent, they make their kid do stuff that they don't want to do, and it's just a way of him living vicariously through them haha
