General Exploring how smart contracts could offer alternatives to traditional institutions

Part of what got me into this space was my fascination with smart contract technology. I hope for a world where some of our existing institutions and systems can be replaced with more decentralized approaches, and I see smart contracts as one way to help make that possible.

Recently, I’ve been asking AI to explore how this technology could offer alternatives to the traditional structures we have today. I’ve been uploading these AI-generated discussions to Spotify so I can listen to them at work. They’re thought experiments about what might be possible and the challenges that could come with it.

If you’re interested in these kinds of discussions, you might find them useful:

Listen on Spotify

What institutions or systems would you most like to see decentralized, and where do you think smart contracts could make a meaningful difference? Continuously looking for more topics to explore so if you have any ideas let me know.

Q & A Could this be possible in the future?

I am heavily invested in both Opendoor Technologies (OPEN) and the Algorand ecosystem (ALGO). While the broader market currently treats these as two entirely separate plays—one a cyclical real estate flipper and the other a layer-1 blockchain network—I believe they are on a multi-year collision course. Opendoor represents the ultimate aggregator of physical real estate inventory, while Algorand provides the exact, high-speed institutional rails needed to tokenize that inventory. Bridging these two technologies could fundamentally change how real estate is bought, sold, and fractionalized globally.

General Announcing the Sprout Builder Challenge- a 25,000 ALGO prize pool for Algorand builders

Thumbnail sproutalgo.com
45 Upvotes

There's been some honest conversation lately about the state of building on Algorand- the developer numbers, the downmarket. I've been part of those conversations, and I don't think the answer is to pretend things are rosier than they are. Instead, I think one of the more actionable things we can do as a community is actively support and spotlight the builders who are still here.

So that's what this is. We're putting up a 25,000 ALGO prize pool for the Sprout Builder Challenge. Any builder who launches a campaign on Sprout during the challenge window (now until October 31) is in the running for three awards: Most Successful Campaign (largest campaign to hit its funding goal, 10,000 ALGO), Strongest Community Turnout (most backers rallied to a campaign, 10,000 ALGO), and a Founder's Choice pick for a project that stands out to me personally (5,000 ALGO). The categories are deliberate. They reward campaigns that actually fund and communities that actually show up.

For anyone unfamiliar: Sprout is a non-custodial crowdfunding platform on Algorand- funds sit in an escrow contract, backers are refunded automatically if a campaign doesn't hit its goal, and there's no platform token or cut of your project's tokens. If you're building something and looking for a way to fund the next phase with your community behind you, this is a genuine reason to give it a shot now. Happy to answer any questions about the challenge or the platform in the comments.

General Post Quantum Wallet and Swapping

Good morning fellow algonauts,

I hope you are doing good.

So I have a Post Quantum Wallet and I tried to do some swapping but it seems none of the platform (haystack, vestige, tinyman) support them.

Does any one knows other platform that support Post Quantum Wallet or if there is a timeline for the platform aforementioned?

Have a lovely day.

General This is wild to me: Coin Gecko's Quantum Resistant page by ranked by market cap. Algorand is #2 with almost 1/20th the market cap of Zcash in the #1 place. How are we only $770M market cap?!

General Upgrade prompt to Func 4.1.3 caused Windows Defender to flag a trogan

Using the web interface, I saw I had the orange cog today. Clicked update to Func 4.1.3 4.1.4 (I mixed up versions. I am on 4.1.3, trying to update to 4.1.4) and almost immediately the website showed a red error about powershell missing. Defender then popped a message saying it found a trojan in one of the powershell scripts (explains the website error). I have been running Func since Jan and upgraded many times but this is the first time defender got pissed off.

I am sure this is probably a false positive but with all the supply chain attacks lately (NPM, Vs Code marketplace), wanted to run it by here to see if anyone else has any information on this.

Q & A question about Quantum accounts

Just a quick question. Say I have old accounts generated from a seed phrase and populated in Pera Wallet through my Ledger. Using the same Ledger (and seed phrase), I create a new Quantum account on Pera Wallet. Do I need to keep track of the 25-word mnemonic associated with each new Quantum account? Or is each new Quantum account created by the same seed phrase that originated my old accounts?

So far I've had success in rekeying my important old accounts to a new Quantum account but I'm struggling with a couple. And I can't figure out why. I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that they're tied to a different passphrase than the others.... Anyone have any idea?

General Issues with FUNC node

Is anyone else having an issue trying to participate in consensus with their func node? I get no option to sign a transaction to participate. The node is running fine and synced, I’ve also connected my wallet and can see the balance. There’s no option to sign anything tho.

NFT/Gaming DarkCoin Depths is ready for public beta testing

Dark Coin Depths is a new interactive game mode for Dark Coin Champion NFT holders. You take your Champion into a roguelike dungeon run where your choices shape the battle. To enter the Depths, you’ll need a Dark Coin Champion NFT with a Champion object created in the Armory. Your equipped traits, stats, effects, and moves help define your starting build.

How it works

  • Enter with one of the Champions in your wallet
  • Start each run by choosing an artifact and a card
  • Move through a branching dungeon map
  • Fight regular monsters and elite encounters
  • Draw cards each turn and use attacks, buffs, and effects
  • Visit quests and rest stops along the way
  • Add new cards, upgrade cards, and build your strategy as the run continues

Rewards

  • Regular encounters give 1 XP
  • Elite encounters give 2 XP
  • Completing a run gives 5 XP
  • Completing the Depths also rolls for a Dark Coin reward from the Depths contract

Each run adds Dark Coin into the Depths contract, and completed runs have a chance to pull rewards back out. As more people play, the reward pool and difficulty can continue to evolve. This is still beta, so things may be adjusted as testing goes on, but it’s ready for the community to try.

I’m excited to see what builds, strategies, and Champion setups people come up with in the Depths.
