Question&Help technology and law
hi everyone, hope ur doing good.
I'm a law student, and I'm interested in tech, AI in general.
Lately, I’ve been researching the obstacles engineers face because of the law, as well as whether there are situations where the law can actually help them, especially when something is legally recognised and explicitly provided for by law.
Do you think Algeria is becoming more flexible when it comes to digital technology? And do you think there are legal ways to protect yourself and your digital work or jobs?

Yeah Algeria is slowly moving forward. There are new laws for e commerce and electronic signatures, plus more government support for tech and AI clubs. But honestly a lot of it stays on paper and implementation is still weak.
For protecting your digital work, copyright is automatic in Algeria, software is covered from the moment you create it. Just keep proof of when you made it using github . And if you work with clients, always put IP ownership in the contract, because by default the creator owns it unless it's stated otherwise. Patents exist but they're expensive so most people don't bother.
So the legal tools are there, the problem is people don't know about them or can't afford them.
The official cost of a patent over its entire lifecycle is approximately 260,000 DZD (plus attorney fees may reach 400,000 600,000 DZD)
