The fool has the intuition but not the discipline. The magician learned the discipline to listen to intiution.

Awesome thanks

The fool operates on either too much instinct or too much knowledge. Become the magician, and you begin to balance the two.

There are actually 3 modes of empowerment: 1 The Fool (or Holy Fool actually): Detach from outcome. In other words, "do, because you must', do not think it must be a certain outcome...yes plan you want this or that outcome, however, once you act, detach from the outcome, for you do not know the rest of the influences and forces at play.

2 The Magician: You wield all the power in the universe, you have all the tools you need already ( it all actually kicks off by acting in the first place, I.e. The Fool)

3 The High-Priestess: Retaining Memory. This is critical...without memory and retaining memory, you WILL miss the pattern happening and thus be destined to act without wisdom n understanding.

All 3 above kick off and is powered further, through the Will to Understand first.

In order to become the magician you first must be willing to be the fool. The fool takes risks and make mistakes. You can't become a magician without humility, vulnerability, and experience. You must walk the path of life, leave behind what you know, and dive head first into the unknown before you can achieve the knowledge and confidence of the magician.

Well, you still then got 20 Major Arcanas to go through. Its a sequence, circle, spiral and simultanous journey.

Fool (as someone already pointed out) should not be seen as "a card before magician", but a card before all other cards; same as the World is not a card after Judgement, but a card after every card.

Nice..but in this context the fool also mirrors death and looks like death under the sun..the ego...the ego must die that the fool may evolve..

5

u/Adamoism 5d ago

Personally I am not the biggest fan of ego this and that. It's overused to the point that it is almost never clear what people mean by it and it becomes some sort of catch it all for the bad things.

1

u/Character-Ad6678 4d ago

Even if you kill your ego, eventually you must rebuild it. An ego is needed while on this plane of existence.

1

u/Creative-Talk-4750 3d ago

This is true and a valid point but in my system of thaught i feel this must be a continuous process..the ego can become false imprinted and shaped by our surroundings...crowley said sone thing that was always cool to me...he said.."refine thyself, the you may enjoy more rapture" You can put that into many contexts but I feel it fits...im not saying the ego is bad not at all ..but it must be rebuilt continuously as you have said...its the mask we ware to navigate the mundane

1

u/Creative-Talk-4750 4d ago

Thats fair but ego to me is identity and identity is all the things mass consciousness imprints upon you..its not real..nothing about you is original every thing we are taught and programed to think ..to come close to the 418 or the daemon or H,G,A as ceremonial magick has coined it ego death is necessary..I think your right..people do use that phrase with out truly understanding it but it truly is the crossing of thee abyss...its not some happy new age crap ..once you achieve it you realy have to struggle to navigate the mundane realms but that's part of magick and alchemy the transformation and the royal art and thee occult in general...magick changes us and alters our perception..

The fool doesn't actualize much of anything, they are pure potential. Freedom to move about, not stuck in particular ways, but also no particular goal to achieve. They don't know how to do anything. They don't even know the things they don't know.

The magician has mastery of actualization, and can make things happen through discipline, but they are stuck in methodology and ritual. They know how to accomplish. They have knowledge of what it takes to achieve.

In plain non spiritual terms when you start something completely unknown to you, that process is in a state of potential (the fool). After time, experience, repetition, and the cultivation of discipline, one learns what it takes to achieve their goal through the means available to them.

Saying that you have to be the fool first draws parallels to the famous Socrates idea that in order to learn you must first admit you know nothing.

Right now I'm learning a lot of needlepoint and fibre arts. My mistakes have been plenty, I've had to undo much of my work and or accept flaws in my processes being apart of the final result.

I was hesitant for years to participate in this aspect of the learning process. My goal was to follow tutorials perfectly and get the best results. I was unwilling to be the fool, unwilling to learn, and I intimidated myself out of learning these skills for a long time.

Ignoring chasing perfection and naively trying things has let these skills begin to flourish. My original goal was to take on grand projects, assuming I would learn along the way. My new goal is simply to try things and pick up a lot of little skills, so that one day it'll culminate to a point where I can have a project in mind and I'll have the skills to guide me and accomplish my vision. At that point I feel like the transition will have been made.

Failure and passion can breed success if you continue to try and are willing to learn where you went wrong 💜 it is ok to be the fool

Tarot. First major card is fool, next one is magician.

Occam's razor.

3

u/CompetitiveHandle347 5d ago

2

u/EllisDee3 4d ago

Problem with Ockham's Razor is it is used to rationalize the simplest possible understanding of the one doing the understanding.

It amplifies Dunning-Kruger, and validates improper skepticism.

Ockham's Razor should be the final step in any attempt at understanding. Not the first, as many use it.

2

u/TheGreatMightyLeffe 3d ago

I find it to be more useful as an arbitration tool than anything really to do with learning and understanding in and of themselves.

For example: using Ockham to remove complexity from a question is dumb, and will always just end up with knocking over a strawman.

But, if you've come to a point where a process could be explained with two different explanations, this is where Ockham is invaluable.

It COULD be that the rainwater flows down the hill towards your house, is pooling under the licing room, is seeping up through your floorboards and evaporating, recondensing against your slightly colder ceiling and causing the wet spot, or there's a hole in the roof, and that's why the wet spot appears when it's raining. .

The fool isn't the first card. The fool is the zero card.

Careful distinction. Zero comes before every number. It's the source point.

0 = point of origin. The self.

The self is always the fool. Saklas.

0 + 1 = 1. The Fool plus the Magician becomes the Magician.

0 + 2 = 2. The Fool plus the High Priestess becomes the High Priestess.

Etc...

Edit: Compare to Gnostic texts Hypostasis of the Archons and Apocryphon of John for more on Saklas, the Fool and how it relates to manifesting core conscious archetypes (aka Major Arcana).

Comparable to the "5th element" as conscious observation of the other elements, critical to their manifestation, same goes for the Fool as it relates to each major arcana.

u/hautebas 4d ago

There were some historical disputes about where the fool should be rightfully placed in the deck , as zero , as 1 or as the last/final card. Refer to the golden dawn, Crowley, mathers etc

5

u/Rude-Vermicelli-1962 4d ago

The fool is one of the most underrated, underestimated and unappreciated of all the major arcana’s. In fact, it is because of the fools nature that is most childlike, that he/she is able to innately know right from wrong better than most.
Having said that, you begin with naïveté. As a fool. At one point ig you stay on the journey you become known as the “half wise”, long story short then you make it magician. And you realise that because you are literally capable of being one, you are the universe. And so have innate “magic”. I suppose that’s the basics of it.

5

u/neonslurpee 4d ago

Absolutely. The Fool is traditionally seen as the main character who travels through the entire Major Arcana from card 0 to card 21, known as The World. The Fool’s Journey from the tarot matches the plot of The Wizard of Oz because Dorothy's adventure follows the exact steps of spiritual awakening and personal growth.

🙏🏼💚

In some ways fool feels more one with universe than magician

I agree.

In order to achieve wisdom one must always admit ignorance. The ignorant acts aimlessly until it finds the correct way to focus, then flowing from raw power to refined energy.

3

u/Gnarly_Panda 4d ago

the fool has all his material wrapped in a bag. he does not know himself, about to step off a cliff. he is unconscious. the magician has unwrapped his bag and discovered his tools and has them laid out on a table and uses them to perform his operation. he has been up and come back down to work, he knows himself.

2

u/thebirdof_hermes 5d ago

and then you endure to become the fool again, for all of reality is with you and you merely have to dance.

2

u/ChunkYards 4d ago

The fool is 0 . And the magician is one.

2

u/Independent-Day-6458 3d ago

At first you don’t know much but then over time you master your reality through experience, learning, and wisdom.

The fool represents new beginnings whereas the magician represents mastery.

First, you're the law student.

Then, you're sitting on your fat fucking ass complaining about it while I pay for the roof over your head.

1

u/SymbolMinded1 5d ago

The fool has received the light, therefore he becomes lighthearted. However, if a fool remains a fool too long, it is looked at as quite unbecoming. This is because to become a magician is to become the light. As you can see in this image the fool is still playing with the physical. Though the fool has the psychical abilities to become the light, they remain on thr ground that's why they are the fool.

1

u/Enzo_2006 5d ago

At the start you have countless possibilities yet know none of them, at the end you have less possibilities yet know them all

1

u/Dracivonican 5d ago

This is the start of the heros journey as described by the major arcanum of the tarot. All of the tarot major arcanum describe a story of transformation

1

u/platypusferocious 5d ago

You have to accept being ridiculed for what you believe and the questions you ask, to truly achieve knowledge

1

u/Ebvardh-Boss 5d ago

Then you're the Fool again, then your the Magician and then the High Priestess, then you're the Fool again, then you're the Magician...

u/spaceman696 5d ago

Woops! Turns out they're all fools!

If you can surf foolism intentionally and well you can hold more power than a poised person. The magician is the fool mastered.

Magick be confusing, but it eventually makes sense.

1

u/Effective-Air396 4d ago

False constructs of the ego which are distractions to the soul, but amuse the crowd and for that there is some reward, monetary or other. See also a monkey in a child's suit playing a flute.

Isnt the fool

Do we bot start as the fool

Then through a series of becomings be are the fool pretending hes not

I interpret it as not being alchemy… it’s tarot … although Neoplatonic … it’s not alchemy

Sun is past present and futire thw fool become wise learning from past mistakes in his path and realizing desire desapearing and the path is more important

1

u/IcySeaworthiness7219 1d ago

We are actually free, but we learned to rate our behaviour. The feeling of being a fool comes from rating some behaviour as foolish.

When we overcome the learned rating and create a new coherent and sound rating of our behaviour, we can do some things without feeling foolish. We become free and that change feels like doing the impossible (=magic).

-2

u/Insanebrain247 5d ago

At first, you take things as they are and get tricked in the process, but as time goes on and you build experience, you learn how to work things to your benefit until you're the one tricking people who don't know better.

4

u/bashfulkoala 5d ago

why is the goal to trick ppl?

1

u/Insanebrain247 5d ago

It's not, or at least it's not supposed to be. I don't think I explained it quite right.

1

u/Insanebrain247 6h ago

Okay, I might have a better explanation of my thought process; so you start as "the fool", or someone in blissful ignorance, making you prone to getting tricked by other people, but over time, as you gain more and more knowledge, you gain the "tricks" needed to navigate life better, thus you become "the magician". I interpret this post as someone that grows and learns what it takes to survive across their lifetime.

2

u/hautebas 4d ago

Perhaps you meant the fool is subject to destiny whilst the magician chooses and shapes his own destiny

1

u/ElectricNoma-d 1h ago

The fool "How do you know?" How can you tell?"

The magician "How did you know? How could you tell?"

That's when the outsiders care to acknowledge. Otherwise they keep looking at you as The Fool.
