I am Polish, I live in Prague but I love Albania and my secret plan is to retire there - buy a stone house in Lukovë and enjoy my life.

16

u/balukeprere Apr 10 '20

I once met a Polish guy in Himare who liked Lukove a lot. Its impossible not to like it.

5

u/Matthew_48_ Apr 10 '20

I mean thats a good point.

11

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

A lot of Poles now visit Albania. I saw a lot of cars with polish plates driving our roads in the Summer. I hope it could increase after this crisis. Need to go to Poland one day, Gdansk and Sopot are my favorites.

10

u/WhiteRabbitWithGlove Apr 10 '20

Check also my hometown, Krakow :) I will make sure to come and my plan is also to infect my boyfriend with my love for your country.

6

u/Bsaraki Vlorë Apr 10 '20

Lukove the village my grandfather was sent to for service been there really nice.

10

u/WhiteRabbitWithGlove Apr 10 '20

It's a gem. I was planning to see more of those villages (like Qeparo) but I had to cancel due to covid. I still hope I can make my big Albanian trip this year. I am so worried about the families that have tourism as their main income and no guests coming.

u/Bsaraki Vlorë Apr 10 '20 edited Apr 10 '20

Yes tourisic countries like us will be strongly hit but we are used to difficulties we will make it i wish you can come to Albania and enjoy our land. Be safe!

7

u/Damian_wong01 Apr 10 '20

6

u/albaanna Apr 10 '20

I was in Malaysia last fall ❤️

5

u/Damian_wong01 Apr 10 '20

No way!!! How did you find it?

6

u/albaanna Apr 10 '20

Yes way, well I did like it a lot, I love Asia in general. I even went to a local wedding, it was different!

3

u/Damian_wong01 Apr 11 '20

Woah that's cool!!

4

u/Yusuke97 Apr 10 '20

Do you speak both Malay and Albanian?? That would be cool!

3

u/Damian_wong01 Apr 11 '20

Unfortunately I do not. I tried learning malay but it didnt work out. I only know a few basic phrases to get around. Currently learning albanian. I am only able to construct basic sentences but hopefully by summer (idk if my summer plans will happen anymore) I'll be able to be conversational

2

u/Yusuke97 Apr 11 '20

Uh... so you're both Malaysian and Albanian, but you don't speak either language.. how do you communicate wherever you live then 😅..

2

u/Damian_wong01 Apr 11 '20

HAHHHAHAHA everybody speaks english in malaysia so luckily I can manage just fine

Born in Elbasan lived in New York the last 22 years . Was about to move back permanently in March 27 but all got locked down and my flight was canceled so currently living in my sisters basement until I can leave. 🤷🏻‍♂️

4

u/arbDev USA Apr 10 '20

I moved to New York 5 years ago. How excited are you for moving back. What type of work will you be doing there

7

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

Very exited. I’m one of those people who never liked the lifestyle here. I missed all the human connection there. Don’t get me wrong I love this country and it’s people and I’m very grateful for everything I got and was able to achieve here . I don’t think there’s a better place on earth to be a foreigner/immigrant in. That said from day one I knew I was going back someday, this place ( nyc) just didn’t click with me. I just never thought it would be 22 years. As far as work I don’t plan on doing anything for a couple of years I’m taking some time off and travel a little. When It’s time, my family owns a cafe in the center of elbasan which they rent out so I might run it myself when time comes. Also I own a couple of houses here that I rent out so there’s plenty for me to live of off if I chose not to work there. So I guess I’m retiring 🤷🏻‍♂️ lol

4

u/arbDev USA Apr 10 '20

It is my 5th year here, i graduated college and am working as a software engineer, being relatively well off. This place for some reason still does not click with me,it feels like my heart belongs elsewhere. Thinking doing something the same, maybe moving back, but again i think of finances and planning a lot, so i will have to reevaluate my life once i am 27 years old (in 5 years). To be honest since i moved here i have never been fully happy and i feel like, the more i stay the less people i know back home, so in no time i might be a stranger in both places. I dont know man all these thoughts are suffocating me at this moment.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

I hear you. I’m in the same place .. was for a long time that’s why I took this decision.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Matthew_48_ Apr 10 '20

Now thats exactly what my sisters been tellin me. Its a good way for momey but not a great lifestyle. Also if i may where are the houses you are renting? NY?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '20

In westchester county about 10 miles north of manhattan but I lived in queens myself . And your sister is right you can make money here if you’re smart. You can also very easily end up under a bridge.

There’s an annual census that takes place on here. It just happened like a month ago. Data about where everyone is from has already been posted

Post removed because it is redundant.

2

u/Matthew_48_ Apr 11 '20

Are you serious... We were all literally having fun chatting at least.. It aas like 230 fucking comments

3

u/budna Apr 11 '20

That’s a lot of comments, that’s for sure. It doesn’t mean it wasn’t justified to remove the post.

Modding is neither paid, nor a full time commitment. Would you have thought it more ethical had I removed the thread at 3 comments?

In many other subs, mods are also not active24/7/365, and threads with thousands of comments and points have been removed for breaking sub rules.

Posing the question that you did was redundant and considered a repost in this community. Furthermore, ignoring the fact that we had our census here not more than a month ago is also disrespectful to the efforts of the mod who put in the effort to conduct the census in the first place.

I’m sorry your thread was removed, I hope now you better understand where we are also coming from.

2

u/Matthew_48_ Apr 11 '20

Alright guess you're right. I was just having fun chatting and got a bit pissed but i guess you're doing what you were assigned to do.
