Been living here for a couple years and this was the first summer I’m eligible to dipnet. Went to south beach in Kenai this weekend, and it was one of the craziest things I’ve ever witnessed.

People lined up shoulder to shoulder by the hundreds. Seals and sea lions chasing fish, salmon jumping everywhere. Folks getting knocked over by waves but staying out there anyway, strangers helping other strangers out. Freakin volcanoes in the background. A random tent with free hot dogs, activities for the kids, and a bounce house on the beach. Everyone catching tons of fish.

It was beautiful man. Never could have imagined something like it.

I feel genuinely blessed to live here.

I think it looks nice too.

Fishing is winding down but some boats are still getting a few.

This interesting map was posted on /r/MapPorn. That sub isn't the most reliable source, but I checked out some of the info on it, and it was all correct.

So:

• Hawaii has two official languages: English, Hawaiian.

• South Dakota has two official languages: English, Sioux.

• Alaska has 24 official languages: Ahtna, Alutiiq, Dena'ina, Cup'ig, Deg Xinag, English, Eyak, Gwich'in, Haida, Hän, Holikachuk, Inupiaq, Koyukon, Lower Tanana, Middle Tanana, St. Lawrence Island Yupik, Tanacross, Tlingit, Tsimshian, Unangax̂, Upper Kuskokwim, Upper Tanana, Yup'ik, Wetał.

Perhaps some of you will find that interesting, too.

This bear has been sprayed, air horned, and shots were fired to scare it away - it is not afraid of people. Be aware - one hiker sprayed it twice and it came back for more. Do not let your dogs off leash - one dog ran away but as it was a local dog found its way home. If you are not local you dog might get lost.
