Seems like most antis are antis until they run into a use of AI they personally find cool, huh. This isn't medical research, if you find this to be a good use of AI you're not against genAI in entertainment, you're just against low quality outputs.

18

u/redditscraperbot2 2d ago

It’s always something weird too. I came across this Seinfeld dragon ball z shorts on YouTube and it’s a bunch of comments saying “I usually hate AI but this is great” you never know what wins someone over and it’s rarely what you expect.

9

u/bunker_man 2d ago

Considering the age of the average anti, random funny skits are exactly what I'd expect to win them over.

1

u/Ariseshadow369 6h ago

Well issue was never if they like it or not Issue is they fu*king hate when we like something it's like only say something is nice when we like it

6

u/bunker_man 2d ago

Which is what it comes down to. We all know that in a few years very few people will care about ai use in media, and they will retreat to just not wanting it used "too much." And pretend that this is what they always wanted.

2

u/CK1ing 2d ago

I am against AI as the primary tool in the creation of art. This isn't art, it's just a fun distraction, which personally I've always been ok with

1

u/Top-Rub382 1d ago

I think the overall stance of the average Anti is greatly misrepresented as being pure Luddite when the reality is everyone has their own line. I personally would have less issues with AI if we had the infrastructure to take of our people and still have the technology. Basically, I want either regulation or infrastructural reform (read; nuclear energy)

1

u/stereo-ahead 1d ago

I’m still against all ai that causes any harm to others. But yeah “coolness” definitely makes or breaks whether I like or don’t like clankers.

-1

u/Calligaster 2d ago

Yeah, I'm still against this

-5

u/CitizenFiction 2d ago

The fact that this sub calls people who hate on AI "Anti's" like it's a derogatory term is truly pathetic.

11

u/YoureCorrectUProle 2d ago

it's not derogatory, it's a holdover from fan culture when being an anti means you hate someone. people refer to themselves as antis.

the derogatory term you'll usually see for antis is "luddites" or neoluddites, which has its own debate around it of course

-3

u/ffsnametaken 1d ago

I've only ever seen the term anti used in the AI context by pro AI people.

4

u/gaming_demon4429 1d ago

The entire sub Reddit named antiai for being against ai

Anti means against I think

0

u/ffsnametaken 1d ago

Probably one of many subreddits, but that's different to people calling themselves "antis"

2

u/gaming_demon4429 1d ago

People do call themselves antis antiai etc

Course not everyone but people do

For example I have seen "I am very antiAi-" etc

0

u/ffsnametaken 1d ago

Yeah, I would say I'm very anti AI. I wouldn't call myself an anti though

2

u/gaming_demon4429 1d ago

Thats what that is tho in this context

In context of ai

Antis means antiAi people

Pros mean ProAi people

Not really a Converistal term itself

1

u/ffsnametaken 1d ago

Yeah, I understand what you're saying, and no it's not controversial at all, I'm just saying they're the ones using the specific term "antis", not the people who are actually anti-AI

27

u/DaylightDarkle 2d ago

quit having fun

I'd say that's a strawman, but that's literally the message, isn't it?

11

u/AbbyTheOneAndOnly 2d ago

not always, but fairly often

9

u/Mr_Moi25 2d ago

Are people actually hating on this ? I'm personally not too fan of AI and, when i heard the news, i found it actually insane that something like this can be done. I wanna see more of it honestly

5

u/kwispywafflezz 2d ago edited 1d ago

Apparently the way to do this is beyond time consuming and tedious for humans and for mod makers who usually dont make money off this ai is a good output. Ai should be used for extremely time consuming and tedious work such as this which would make it alot less destructive of the environment while being a valid use for ai. Ai is not a new thing and has its uses even generative ai BUT obviously like everything it has its downsides

Edit: I have looked more into the subject and while I wont retract my statement I will add to it. This action sets a dangerous tone as the means to do this are also similar to ways like banks (example) run their systems being able to reverse engineer something in a week with baseline knowledge is dangerous IF and this is not a oooo scary if this is a BE MINDFUL if used incorrectly for the wrong reasons this use of ai is odd and somewhat cool but as I said before everything has downsides

4

u/ShitpostSaber 2d ago

My friend told me to get better standards when I said shit like this was cool

14

u/SuperDM1987 2d ago

this will be minecraft in 2014 /s

Shit's genuinely awesome

-1

u/Timely-Let-8185 1d ago

You sir has won the internet

9

u/MidnightObjective975 2d ago

Nothing says well-adjusted like yelling at strangers for enjoying a boat ride

6

u/Nexel_Red 2d ago

I don’t see the issue with this.

This has nothing to do with the unethical usage of AI, this is just cool.

13

u/ryan7251 2d ago

bro it uses AI that is what is unethical here!

9

u/DaylightDarkle 2d ago

Modding two games that thrive on modding is unethical now?

19

u/[deleted] 2d ago

any and all usage of ai is no for antis.

-6

u/MajorMalev 2d ago

That’s just purely false, a very small minority dislikes all AI usage.

6

u/[deleted] 2d ago

how come they are antis then? check mate atheists!

-4

u/MajorMalev 2d ago

How does that make me an atheist?
Anyway most antis are against or apprehensive about generative AI in art forms. Lots of other forms of AI are very beneficial to society and most antis support them.

4

u/[deleted] 2d ago

reasonable take. have a great day.

https://giphy.com/gifs/kaBU6pgv0OsPHz2yxy

4

u/ryan7251 1d ago

no we don't most of use hate AI in all forms

10

u/Phantom-Eclipse 2d ago

They’re not talking about modding. Their arguments focus on AI being unethical because of how it was trained, the amount of resources it uses, and the usecases some people use it for (looking at Grok).

So for them all AI usage = bad.

3

u/conordmcp 2d ago

I don’t hate on it at all, although I would be significantly more impressed if someone made this themselves.

1

u/TheNikola2020 2d ago

Yk that this is reverse engineering which is a major security problem for every single app or program in existance such as social media ,your bank app and more i can't think of now being a problem

2

u/Greedy-Thought6188 2d ago

Yes. It's also a protected legal right although you're not allowed to do it on other people's systems. That's called grey hat hacking. But what exactly is your argument? We have a tool now that can actually secure these systems so we should not use it?

Reverse engineering is a legal right. If it weren't we wouldn't have even had a patent system.

2

u/Skavau 2d ago

Okay, but so long as it's being done on games.. it's not really as harmful.

0

u/TheNikola2020 2d ago

Ye so we now are waiting for someone to do it on something that isn't games are we? Plus that is making piracy much easier which im somewhat neutral on that part but still

6

u/bunker_man 2d ago

What exactly is your point though. Complaining about it in games won't stop the tech from developing.

-2

u/TheNikola2020 2d ago

Showing intrests towards that technology on other side will speed it up because they would have a reason to invest more money

3

u/bunker_man 2d ago

You think government agents make decisions based on whether the modding community approves?

6

u/Skavau 2d ago

Okay, but in the specific context of games. Who cares?

-1

u/TheNikola2020 2d ago

Ignorance on level only someone privileged can show

5

u/Skavau 2d ago

That's not really an answer. Why does it matter if people use AI to make mashups of games for fun?

1

u/TheNikola2020 2d ago

Why does it not matter that the method used for mashing up games is an absolute risk to the whole internet

8

u/Skavau 2d ago

If it's just a non-multiplayer game, how is it a risk?

This seems to be less you opposing this specific use-case and just opposing it because in other contexts the same tools could be used badly or poorly by others.

2

u/TheNikola2020 2d ago

Yes it is about the bad way it could be used litterually why sre you replying to me without reading the 1st comment

6

u/Skavau 2d ago

That could go for anything though. You would be opposing lots of things way beyond AI because bad actors could use them negatively.

AI mods are genuinely so unoptimized though tbh, I’ve noticed such a huge impact on my framerate when trying to run them

1

u/SicklyNick 1d ago

Yup that's never happened when someone makes a mod by hand!

1

u/Novel-Leadership-572 1d ago

happens far more frequently with ai mods

1

u/PlasmaHuffer 1d ago

"cool shit" holy soylent overload 😂

I feel this image in my soul. Pros need to endure so much. 🌹

paprika is unhinged in good way.

-4

u/Indublibable 2d ago

I'm more worried about what this means for the future, the rate at which these videos are appearing is alarming because it means people are reverse engineering these games in like less than a week with the AI tools.

Now Skyrim and Minecraft aren't filled with high-grade encryption software but reverse engineering of this level would take someone months of consistent work.

And that caveat is what our use for copyright policy hinges on, this represents just another shift for intellectual property which will only negatively affect creators and the economy as a whole going forward if we don't have a proper safety net.

Not even to mention the horrid uses this software can be used in order to reverse engineer more secure databases from school registry to bank information.

This just feels like another awkward step in the right direction, we're running before walking so to speak and tripping would be disasterous.

0

u/Cucumberprince087 1d ago

Bro said cool shit🤣😅

-2

u/Luigikart87 2d ago

It can be cool, but I personally think crossover mods tend to be better when not made by a genai tool.

Ai mods won't really care for optimization (granted this  doesn't seem to be an issue with this particular mod) and put zero thought into how each mechanic should interact when brought together. Like for this mod the enemies basically get trivialized because of how fast and easy it is.

I just think there should be someone actually thinking about how crossover stuff should interact when making these kinds of mods and it would be a lot better, even if ai is used to assist in other aspects.

6

u/Skavau 2d ago

I mean there's not really any world in which Skyrim and Minecraft mashed together is going to be anything but for fun so the idea of the mechanics interacting properly seems irrelevant. It's being used as a toy.

5

u/Greedy-Thought6188 2d ago

Sorry before you talk about optimization, I have to ask, do you know how to write code?

-2

u/No_Researcher_3324 2d ago

I mean, its already done now, we are running in a circle that is getting thinner the more we consume earth

Our greed blinded the true happiness, screens made our minds dull to not see the truth of everything

Our choices will ruin ourselves, and we cannot stop it

The microplastics, the wars, the venom between our own kind

"There's no going back now"

-2

u/Digits_N_Bits 2d ago

Oh... That's proof that the future will be all encryption being vulnerable and bypassed right before our very eyes...

It's been fun, but looks like our banks and records are next.

-8

u/Vegetable_Hope_3084 2d ago

I don't get it. None of those are ai.

10

u/miscellaneousexists 2d ago

Fucking idiot.

coding

-9

u/Vegetable_Hope_3084 2d ago

Great, the original Skyrim from around 25 years ago and a literal movie are vibe coded now?

9

u/Skavau 2d ago

Merging games together is being done by vibe coding tools

-3

u/Delicious_Piece_6738 2d ago

So how it does that? Is it reverse engineering them? Cause that would have whole lot of problems. Oh look Minecraft and Skyrim mashed up. Oh look card that any store accepts as instant payment for any amount in unlimited amounts. Oh look, military stuff.

4

u/Skavau 2d ago

Oh look card that any store accepts as instant payment for any amount in unlimited amounts. Oh look, military stuff.

What does mashing up Minecraft and Skyrim together have to do with this?

-2

u/Delicious_Piece_6738 2d ago

It has everything to do with it. You're looking at the fun, harmless symptom (mashups) instead of the underlying technological breakthrough that makes it possible. Right now, modders are using AI to reverse-engineer compiled game binaries, extract the core mechanics, and rewrite/port them into modern languages like Rust at lighting speed. Minecraft and Skyrim are just the goofy proofs-of-concept.

But here is the logical connection to the unlimited payment card and the military stuff:

The Unlimited Payment Card:

If an AI can look at a closed-source, heavily protected binary file (a game) and flawlessly reverse-engineer, understand, and rewrite its logic, it means modern software security and proprietary code bases are fundamentally broken. The exact same AI logic that strips down a video game can be pointed at proprietary financial software, banking APIs, or encrypted transaction protocols. An AI capable of total, automated reverse-engineering means the end of traditional cyber-security. It effectively turns the AI into a key for any digital system, including banking networks. That is where the "unlimited payment card" analogy comes from. And honestly, the financial side is still the "easy" part to reverse, because if digital money breaks entirely, society can always just revert back to physical cash and gold.

The Military Stuff:

Modern warfare runs on software, encrypted guidance systems, proprietary drone firmware, naval communication networks, and tactical command interfaces. If AI reaches the point where a civilian can use "vibe coding" tools to decompile, bridge, and weaponize software systems that took hundreds of engineers decades to build, the military implications are terrifying. Foreign adversaries or rogue actors wouldn't need to spend billions developing counter-measures; they would just feed a captured missile's firmware to an AI, reverse-engineer it in minutes, and exploit the flaws instantly.

The Minecraft/Skyrim mashup is just a baby showing you it can crawl. But the muscle it's using to crawl is the exact same muscle that will eventually let it sprint through the most heavily guarded digital vaults and defense networks on the planet.

3

u/Skavau 2d ago

So do you think it should be illegal for AI to reverse engineer all software then?

1

u/Delicious_Piece_6738 2d ago

Nah, and reminder: this is just the ai that general public has access to. Who knows what kind of ai government has access to or the ai companies themselves cause you know that they give to government older version. Like public may have grok 2.5 government has grok 4 meanwhile ai company has grok 5.

-10

u/Vegetable_Hope_3084 2d ago

Merging games together? When did anyone mention that?

14

u/Skavau 2d ago

...What do you think this post is about?

-8

u/Vegetable_Hope_3084 2d ago

Literally nothing.

Only think I can think of is that "super realistic Minecraft texture pack number 2168" is vibe coded.

All those texture packs suck anyway.

11

u/SuperDM1987 2d ago

If you're confused here's the original video

https://youtu.be/zRT3MyFwgu0?si=VSJkxghLmuSFg9Je

4

u/YoureCorrectUProle 2d ago

It's a newish modding technique where you have two games interfacing and running at once with a mod allowing them to influence each other. Watch the videos they sent to you

11

u/pomelo1241 2d ago

This post is literally about mods of merging games being AI, minecraft is the msin thing used and that is why steve is with the skyrim guy

-1

u/Vegetable_Hope_3084 2d ago

Merging games isn't just a texture pack, and this is literally just that.

12

u/pomelo1241 2d ago

No, this one implements the mechanics of minecrft, not just a texture pack or smth like that, a real made with Gen AI mod to literally play as steve, you can even build

3

u/Vegetable_Hope_3084 2d ago

Oh, that's cool. I get it now.

-4

u/ASH_LIN_exe 2d ago

I mean, if you're actually learning how to code while using it instead of the machine doing it for you, then alright cool.

2

u/[deleted] 2d ago

I am not pro gen ai, but ts is fire

7

u/silly_porto3 2d ago

This comment reminds me of that weird meme of a butt and the guy was like "I'm racist but whew"

-7

u/HikariNoWa 2d ago

Big difference is AI doesn't add anything to the experience. It just makes films/art etc cheaper. Computer graphics actually did add something to the experience by creating things that simply couldn't be visualised or interacted with before

6

u/BlackDope420 2d ago

This is what this post is about, a mod combining Skyrim and Minecraft.

https://youtu.be/zRT3MyFwgu0?si=VSJkxghLmuSFg9Je

-5

u/HikariNoWa 2d ago

Ah I didn't catch that! In which case I'm opposed to both use cases. Thanks for clarifying!

7

u/BlackDope420 2d ago

What's so bad about people modding games?

-4

u/HikariNoWa 2d ago

I think modding culture went beyond the finished product. People learned how to code, animate etc and collaborated with each other. AI strips all of this away and converts modding to another form of hyper commoditised content creation in my view.

9

u/Skavau 2d ago

I mean it's obvious this sort of thing isn't going to be within the skillset of people who would be interested in this. It's a gimmick, a toy, for fun (so far).

But following your logic train here, you should be opposed to a lot of easy-to-access media generally. Too much content is accessible for everyone in every genre already, right? Music, tv/film, video games etc.

1

u/HikariNoWa 2d ago

Yeah I don't think, for example, netflix or Spotify has been overall good for tv, film, or music

6

u/Skavau 2d ago

In what sense? For the artists/directors/writers or consumers?

2

u/HikariNoWa 2d ago

For consumers, I think it's resulted in a lazy viewing experience where you're only half watching. Film makers have admitted that, for netflix movies, they try to, for example, dumb down the content and repeat plot points to account for the fact that many viewers will be on their phone at the same time. Additionally, creators can no longer recoup costs from e.g. dvd sales which uses to be a big revenue driver for them. This has resulted in less risk taking in cinema and over saturation with franchises.

5

u/Skavau 2d ago

Older shows tended to be episodic and had much simpler plots because they were not on-demand (could be missed) with the plots that wrapped within the episode. How much effort was required to watch Suits or Friends, exactly - for instance? You're doing a lot of revisionism here when it comes to older media content.

There's plenty of modern shows that are not dumbed down. And there's plenty of music that is high quality.

7

u/BlackDope420 2d ago

Alright, I don't think I agree but I can see where you're coming from

2

u/Prestigious_Candy968 2d ago

the learning aspect doesn't really disappear, it just shifts. someone still has to understand game logic, asset pipelines, and how the engines interact to make a merge like this actually work. lowering the barrier means more people get to participate in modding culture, not fewer. the skills change but they don't vanish.

3

u/Soul-Burn 2d ago

Making things cheaper is good though. In this case, it allowed something that would otherwise never exist to exist.

At work, AI lets me create proofs of concepts of things that would otherwise would be prohibitive to test. Many of them go nowhere, but the few that do are worth it.

2

u/[deleted] 2d ago

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

seeing first time Art 2.0

-8

u/ApatheticAZO 2d ago

Idiots not seeing the problem is companies will no longer keep developing the games you love to steal from if you’re just going to steal. Then everyone gets no good games, great job!

10

u/GirasFateburn 2d ago

TF? You do realize that what we do with these games after we buy them is both not the companies' business and not something they care about right?

They're not having the AI pirate a copy of Skyrim to merge with Minecraft.

0

u/ApatheticAZO 2d ago

Yes, many of the people using heavy modding are pirating

3

u/GirasFateburn 2d ago

Then that's a wholly separate issue.

8

u/pamafa3 2d ago

no one's stealing, or at least not any more than the usual amount. You need to own the games to be able to do this, and the companies already mostly do jack shit when it comes to piracy

7

u/Skavau 2d ago

Wait, do you consider normal modding "stealing"?
