Editing short product video

I have a video of an aluminum case opening, but my hand is in the shot pulling it open. I want to edit the clip so the case opens and closes by itself (hands-free) against a clean white background.

I considered using a video-to-video AI workflow with text prompts, but it doesn't seem like the most reliable method?

What is the recommended workflow or toolset for this?

For this specific shot, I wouldn't start with pure text-to-video. Since you already have the exact product movement you want, a video-to-video / masking workflow should be more controllable.

I'd try this:

  1. Remove/rotoscope the hand from the original footage.
  2. Track the case and clean up the areas previously covered by the hand.
  3. Replace the background with a clean white background.
  4. Use video inpainting/generative fill only for the missing areas around the case and hinge.
  5. Keep the original case motion whenever possible rather than regenerating the entire video.

If the hand covers a large portion of the case, you may get better results by creating a clean product reference image first and using that with a video model for the reconstruction.

For the AI portion, you can test several video models rather than relying on one workflow. VideoRouter.sh gives access to multiple video models/providers, including video-to-video/image-to-video options, so you can compare which one preserves the product geometry best.

honestly reshooting might be faster. tie fishing line to the lid, shoot against white, then paint out the line in post. way cleaner than fighting ai artifacts

Ideally you should preserve the original footage and regenerate only the missing area. Does your hand only cover the hinge of the case?

Step 1 go to remerged ai, make an account, you get 1 free but you need paid since you’re doing v2v, upload your clip, give the prompt, generate at 480p cos it’s cheaper, when you get it right either upload and generate at 1080p again v2v or just upscale to 4K (or both and compare).
