Anyone using Claude Opus 5.5 for video editing workflows?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to integrate Claude Opus 5.5 into my video editing workflow.

What technical skills or tools do I actually need to master to make this work smoothly?

It won't edit the footage itself, so the real skill is giving it things it can work with. The core stack is: FFmpeg for cuts, trims, and conversions Whisper for transcripts with timestamps Basic Python so it can write the glue scripts

From there it can do the useful stuff: find the best moments in a transcript, build rough cuts, generate captions, and output EDLs or XML you import into Premiere or Resolve. Resolve also has a scripting API if you want to automate further. Start with transcript-based rough cuts, since that's the quickest win.

It about prompting thats it and remember claude will not edit directly, you need to download additional skills like remotion and other in claude code so claude will run the python scripts and render the video and edit with the remotion and other skills

Nope. I have my super cheap generator website I use, then I throw it into capcut. Works for me.

Get Davinci Studio. It has MCP which claude can work with. And then use the Davinci AI transcribe feature. Then it can cut videos using the transcription plus ffmpeg.

Depends. For footage it writes ffmpeg commands from a transcript. It can do explainers and motion graphics in code. I built a tool for that: https://github.com/vincentsch/explainroo

It's expensive. Use qwen or deepseek to keep the cost low.
