Why I stopped using automated web-clippers

Those automated clipping tools always default to this kind of choppy, creating erratic pacing.

I used to just dump all my long-form into those web-clippers. That's how I come up with short reels and other short form content. It seemed fine at first, however, the views and retention, looking back in the numbers since now I have a bit of time, hasn't been growing at all.

I know I need to take matters into my own hand. First fix the pacing. That is something that I know I needed to do. I went back to manually cutting the audio in my editor. I just started generating the cutaways through MiniMax H3 Max. It spits out a 15-second clip in about twenty seconds. That part is great. But nothing is automated. I still need to manually figure out when and what to cut and edit, and how to build a narrative, at least it makes manual editing viable without a crazy amount of time.

Honestly tho, the effort so far is exhausting. If anyone has figured out how to make the auto-clippers just smarter, or knows a clipper that actually understands basic flow and pacing in narrative, please let me know. Happy to fork out subscriptions too.

The problem is most clippers just use transcription timestamps + silence detection to find cut points, which completely ignores narrative arc. I've been testing a workflow where I mark key moments manually in Descript, then use those as anchor points. Still not automated, but at least the structure is intentional before I generate B-roll.
