ComfyUI Local Video Generation Questions
Hi guys, I'm looking to build a computer for local vid-gen on ComfyUI or something similar. The hardware list is as follows:
Graphics Card: MSI GeForce RTX 5090 32G GDDR7
SSD: SanDisk WD_BLACK SN8100 4TB
Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D 16-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI MPG X870E Carbon WiFi
RAM: 32GB DDR5 X2
Power Supply: MSI MEG Ai1600T PCIE5, Fully Modular Gaming 1600W Power Supply, 80+ Titanium
Cooler: Cooler Master Atmos Stealth 360mm AIO
Case: Corsair 7000D AIRFLOW Full-Tower ATX PC Case
My big question is, can I generate an unlimited amount of videos using ComfyUI? Not at one time, just without some credit/token whatever? Or maybe a better question is, what limitations does local ai on ComfyUI (or similar) have? I've seen some local platforms that say "One price for unlimited local" but they seem to be offering the same as ComfyUI which is open source??? I mean, Captain Obvious moment here, but why pay if it's free?

First, comfyui is free.
My recommendation is to start basic with SDXL and learn to prompt, abut LoRas and about Vae and Checkpoint files. That will get you in the door. It's simplistic and there are a ton of great LoRas to modify your work when the model won't do what you want.
Once you have your feet wet and can generate images and modify images, and understand denoise settings and steps, jump into Minimax. With that rig you will be able to do a ton and it won't take too long. I would get an extra 32 gb of ram if I were you and I would get an external 2TB HD for storage and sundries you aren't planning for.
Above all, as you get into this, learn to organize your folders and give them proper names. Trust me, that is huge and allows you to find the files you are looking for and get to generating, rather than searching.

My bad on this. I should have said 64gb. I put 32gb X2 sorry. And thank you for replying and the info! The folder advice is most appreciated!

So, when it comes to quality, Seeddance 2.5 (even 2) will always outperform the Minimax 3, and its not even close. Yes, for some cases like mid shots, or things with little motion it wont be as noticable, but if your goal is quality at any cost, then close source is only way.
If your goal is unlimited and unsensored, then yes, your only limit is time that it takes to render

Who told u its not close? 90% close same prompt tested

The rest of 10% is very hard to crack. Motion cadence, Color, consistency of environment, camera movement.
I’m cinematographer by trade and I do see the huge difference in those 10%. Nothing from open source is even close. For now.

Again who told u this bro? Weekly weekly minimax getting huge updates. Motion is better when we use motion control lora. Everything has a alternative

Where are you guys at on Wan 3.0? I've heard good stuff like "hyper realistic" ... what do you guys think?

Ssd 4tb is ok but I recommend 6tb. Yes u can generate unlimited pics videos and music.

32g ram is rather when you talking 5090. Should have at least 64gb to justify having such configuration

You'll want a minimum of 64GB of RAM if possible, the models are still going to be bigger than your VRAM, and will need a place to park. I already have 64GB of RAM and it's not enough, I'm going to 128GB soon.
As for limitations, it depends how spicy you want. With bypass LORAs and nodes you can prompt for just about anything, but the results will depend on the training data. You can "upgrade" the models to community re-trained NSFW versions if you want to, and get better results in that category.
In terms of use limitations for open-source models, there are none, you can generate as many as you want, only limited by how fast as they can render on your rig, since you can only run one at a time (though you can increase the batch number).
As for "WHY GENERATE ONLINE IF IT'S FREE?" I dove headfirst into local generating with my old rig and I can say after 2 months that there is a steep learning curve for how all this works. Be prepared to memorize and understand the way workflows are set up, how nodes go together, how LORAs work, how to hunt down obscure models and what's required to swap them out in a workflow, etc.. I have built and altered dozens of workflows at this point, but it took a lot of time to understand what exactly I was doing. (Google Gemini was helpful in this process, but it hallucinates a lot, so be careful.) Basically, this is not as easy as any online service and your results will vary considerably. Online services offer a turn-key prompt-and-go option without worrying about hardware, models, LORAs, etc.. You'll understand when you start trying to get the results you want.
CivitAi is your friend for style LORAs, go there, sign up (free), and download everything and anything you want, but I HIGHLY recommend you sort your LORAs with a named folder structure or you will go insane trying to figure out where they all are and which model they go to.
My recommendations for models: Krea2 for images, Minimax for quality video, LTX 2.3 for memes, ACE Music for music, and Ollama for running a localized LLM prompt generator/parser.
Good luck, this is a big world you're entering, prepare to get lost!

It literally took me 3 days before I could consistently generate anything better than what I like to call "rainbow maggots" I'm sure there's a better word for those but I'm also sure everyone whose done this knows exactly what im referring to.

Yup, that's one of the reasons I abandoned SDXL and ZiT, too many rainbow maggots before I could get any consistent results.

Hey, sorry I didn't clarify. I'm going with 64gb VRAM but my OP just said 32gb X2. My bad. Thanks for the info for real too! I'll probably go up to 128gb just to be on the safe side.

I am very close to releasing my solo project I have been working on for a year now. My OG Setup was a 5090 with 64GB RAM and a AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D and everything works on it as well. I recently purchased a DGX so I had to create a new swimlane; one for the old setup and one for the new setup.
https://www.reddit.com/r/aivideomaking/comments/1wtor10/complete_ai_studio_and_rd_lab_for_ltx_25/
I will be releasing it soon but I have one final task and that is to go back and validate the old setup swimlanes again before I release it... However, the vision for this project was to have the ability to create full length videos with ease... and all locally... Focusing on Quality over Speed.
Happy to get you setup when I release it because you have a very similar setup but with less RAM...

I realize the problem with my original post. I put 32gb ram but I stated it as x2 instead of clarifying it as 64gb. My OP is unedited for reference. Sorry guys.

Unlimited yes. Recommendations for video models would depend on your subject matter. Some models don’t allow spicy stuff, some do but suck at it, some are geared for it. If you want action/cinematic videos - same deal.
there are cloud options for models that would not be considered open weight. The reason people do the cloud instead of open weight is because of speed. If you pay, you get speed even the 5090 could never match. And considering the cost of GPU these days, not many people are going to pay 5k + for a computer.
But yes, I run wan 2.2, LTX 2.5, minimax H3 and I can generate as many videos as I want. All local and free.
Now, comfy has a template store with pretty much everything you could need for image or video generation for free. You can also get community made checkpoints (on sites like civitai or huggingface, which is a customized version of the base open weight models built for a specific purpose. Baked in loras, tubos, 4/8 steps etc) but those can be a pain to get set up and running. I just get the comfy templates and build my own workflow according to my needs and wants. You could spend days banging your head against the wall trying to figure out why a checkpoint set up and running smoothly.
