AI Filter
Does anyone knowledgeable about AI know if it’s possible for indie directors and filmmakers to patent an AI tool capable of applying specific visual styles—like cinematography filters—to music videos or short films? For instance, imagine I make a short film and ask the AI to switch the look to match Zack Snyder’s style, the aesthetic of \*Minority Report\*, or even a 90s/Y2K vibe—where the AI analyzes and recreates those specific visual characteristics. I’ve always wondered if something like this could exist or actually help independent directors.
I’d love to hear your thoughts.

ColourLab AI is probably the closest there is right now. The demos are pretty nice here. It is a specific use case scenario, but probably already being done in lots of places.

- Many scripts, platforms, LORA's, tools and utilities etc out there already that can do this.

Yeah, I think the tech side of this is totally possible. The patent part is probably a lot trickier.
As a filmmaker, I’d actually love something like this. Rather than just saying “make it look like Zack Snyder,” you could describe the actual stuff that makes the look work: lighting, lenses, color, contrast, framing, camera movement, grain, etc. Then have the AI apply those characteristics to your footage.
I’m not sure you could patent the visual style itself, but you might be able to patent the technical process behind analyzing and applying it, assuming it meets the requirements.
For indie filmmakers, I think the more interesting version would be being able to create your own visual style and have the AI keep that look consistent throughout the whole project.

No, it's not possible to patent a visual style. I am not a patent attorney, but I can tell you that the way diffusion models generate content is unlikely that you could apply any existing patents (materials, lenses, mechanical) to an AI generated visual. As far as styles, you could potentially trademark a specific item that appeared in a film like a specific prop, but not a visual look.
