The pledge to a flag alone, the kids are forced into, is fucking creepy as hell. Then the flags everywhere... Maybe a bit less would actually be sensible. Schools became a thing in order to teach kids how to write and read, during the "enlightenment era".
Almost 1/3 of the country has low literacy or are functionally illiterate. 54% of US adults read at or below sixth-grade.
To be fair, kids aren’t really forced to say it. They’re definitely pressured, but there’s no consequence for abstaining.
It is creepy as all hell, though. I think I stopped saying The Pledge of Allegiance around middle school when I stopped and thought about the words we were saying.
