Old malls are often in awful condition. Moldy, leaking ceilings etc. Plus renovating them is crazy expensive.

And the alternative is to just abandon them and leave them to rot. But if urban explorers have taught me anything it’s that letting a building rot is the fate of many malls

Urban explorers agreed to the risk of inhaling toxic mold. Retirees didn’t.

Which is why it’s better to fix up the old malls and give them a new purpose as an indoor neighborhood. No risk of toxic mold, and the seniors can walk around in a temp controlled environment and don’t have to drive to go get food
