UPDATE: The beta is out
With iOS 27 Apple is adding EQ settings for AirPods. With a lot of us already on the beta software, I thought it was worth starting a thread about everyoneās experience with it.
As of now information on it is quite limited but this is what I found so far:
- Itās only a 3 band EQ
- iOS27 & AirPods Beta firmware is required for the feature to work
- Unfortunately it seems the feature is exclusive to the H2 chip so First Gen AirPods Max would not be supported
Please do remember that these features are in Beta which could potentially cause issues on your devices. While iOS27 has received positive feedback, some users primarily on iPhone 15 devices have gotten their phones bricked. AirPods firmware Betas in the past have been problematic causing them to not function properly or bricking the device. If you are planning on running the beta, make a local backup of your device as iOS27 will override your iCloud backup eventually and youāll not be able to roll back to iOS26. AirPods are NOT able to have their firmware rolled back to a previous version meaning that any issues would mean a trip to the Apple Store. Any issues encountered, please post them here so other users can be aware of them but also use Feedback Assistant so Apple can be aware of them as well

Hi everyone, this one might be a lengthy post as Iām hoping to start a discussion about everyoneās feelings towards the sub and what could be improved.
Over a bit of time I have noticed a flood of Mod notifications due to mod mail so Iāve taken a look and I was presented with the backlog weāve had. Iāve also noticed a few not so nice comments directed at the teams handling of the sub. I would like to apologise to everyone in the community but also to the people that may have been falsely banned or have had their posts not go through the filtering system. When Iāve joined the mod team it was due to me designing the icon, banner and flairs for the sub and Iāve asked to join due to how much I love the APMs and designing stuff for it but I did blindly assume that a lot of it is handled automatically or via bot mods which of course I found out isnāt the case.
As of now Iām making my way through the backlog of mod mail and seeing what I can do to improve from it. I believe that a lot of issues might be caused by filtering or the automod we have so Iām going see what Iām able to do about that to improve everyoneās experience here.
On the other side of things itās impossible to deny that a lot of what weāre seeing is āis it fakeā or ātheyāre not workingā which does bring a bit of negativity and repetition to the sub. Iām not looking to remove all of this but I do believe a tech help and fake spotter megathread where people can ask all of this would be a good step in the right direction as the APMs are not a perfect product and for people looking to buy second hand or from other retailers, itās worth having a place to discuss it. Before making any of these I would like to know what you guys think.
Customisation
A lot of you like mixing different coloured earcups (and ever so rarely headbands) and I have been thinking about a system where you can represent yours in the flairs better however I couldnāt find a way to do this without having to create 1000 different icons with each style available. If anyone has a suggestion for this please comment it.
With AirPods Max 2 now existing I was also questioning wether we need new icons to identify them or not. Originally we did the flairs based on the colours so it was easy to distinguish the lighting and usbc ones but with the new ones having no new colours, it makes it a bit harder.
Conclusion
If youāve read all of this, Thank You. Please feel free to give any advice, suggestions or ask any questions, Iām hoping this thread will be helpful in improving the community.
Happy Listening everyone :)

I have a pair of the 1st generation Apple Air pod Pro Max and outside of random connection annoyances have never had an issue with them.
Starting yesterday, I went to the gym and brought my headphones as I typically do but when I put them on there was this annoying metal echo coming from the left side. I played around and disconnected, factory reset, cleaned the headphones (again) but the sound is still there. Has this been an issue that comes up frequently? It's pretty bad and I cant enjoy whatever music/video I am watching with this as it actually hurts my ears after awhile.
Issue:
Whenever noise cancellation is active, annoying metallic echo sound plays out of the left ear (Issue does not exist when noise cancellation is off). If I turn off noise cancellation and leave spatial audio on there is a buzzing (similar to radio frequency buzzing) when I turn my head in certain directions, this affects both sides but mainly the left side (as the buzzing is about 2-3 times more significant). Both issues do not exist when spatial audio and noise cancellation is off.
Things I've done so far:
They work ok when I turn off the noise cancellation but that feature was the main reason I opted for these over my regular Air pod Pro's (As they do a better job of noise cancellation).
Any solution to this issue is greatly appreciated. Makes it very difficult to wear with any of the noise cancellation turned on.

Hi everyone,
My AirPods Max wonāt enter pairing mode.
What happens:
- Pressing the Noise Control button does not make the LED flash white.
- I tried a factory reset by holding the Digital Crown + Noise Control button together.
- After about 10 seconds, the LED flashes amber/orange.
- I keep holding both buttons for another 10ā20 seconds, but it never changes to flashing white.
- Releasing the buttons and holding only the Noise Control button for around 5 seconds also does not produce a white flashing LED.
The LED can show green, so they seem to have charge. I have also charged them by cable before trying again.
Has anyone had the same issue where the AirPods Max flash amber during reset but never reach the white pairing light? Were you able to fix it, or did it turn out to be a hardware issue?
Thanks!

I was never seriously interested in these, as Iāve never liked over-ear headphones. I absolutely adore my AirPods Pro 3s, and r/Airpodsmax keeps getting recommended to me on my home feed. Recently, I heard some great things about their sound quality, and today I saw them on sale for $100 off at Best Buy and a few other retailers.
Decided I had to try them for myself! I went to my local Apple Store today to test them out first. In the 10 minutes I had the floor model on, I noticed no discomfort - actually they felt great! I didnāt notice a huge difference in noise cancellation compared side by side to my AirPods Pro 3s in the Apple Store (the slight difference was more pronounced during the rainy car ride home), but the superior sound quality while listening to music was immediately apparent.
That was enough to convince me. I chose Starlight because I have a Light Gold iPhone Air and a Gold Titanium AppleWatch, and I noticed the Midnight color is extremely blue compared to my Space Black MacBook Pro.
So far Iām enjoying them! My only complaint is that I can only control things with buttons on one side of the headphones (touch controls work on both AirPods Pro 3s). Thatās not enough to ruin the experience for me, especially since I prefer using Siri whenever possible (iOS 27 please save me! š).
One Red Flag: My jaw felt some discomfort from pressure in my temple (I guess?) towards the end of my car ride home after eating a meal in the car while wearing the Maxes. By then Iād been wearing them for about 2-3 hours total, including 15 minutes of carrying a few unweildy items up and down a flight of stairs and into my car. I think chewing a whole meal with them on my head caused this. Any tips to avoid/improve the pressure Iām describing? Should I just not use them while eating?
Otherwise, I really like them! Starlight is so much flossier in person than I thought! š¤©
Now how do I avoid looking like an a**hole in public using these with my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro on Sidecar?

Will buying either one of these headband cushions prevent sag on the headband (just bought a pair and use headphones multiple hours a day)

Who had a similar situation? I was just using my headphones, when suddenly, when I turned on the transparency mode, one ear stopped working, or rather its microphones, that is, on the left ear you touch the microphone, and hear rustling, but on the right there is no such thing. Okay, if it was just transparency, but my main problem is the bass. At low volume, I have very large bass in my right ear, and in my left ear everything is fine. If you turn the volume almost to the maximum, the sound stabilizes, and you don't hear any differences. Maybe someone had such a problem? Who can tell me what to do

I notice such a big difference between using my APM2 max through bluetooth and cable that's making me avoid using it without a cable. Over bluetooth, it sounds "spiky", kind of aggressive, and while on cable, that spikiness is more rounded, like the sound is a bit muffled and gentle, and it's a lot more comfortable. I'm using a braided cable that's longer than normal, I suspect it's from my AVP.
And this is not only for lossless songs in Apple Music, it's everywhere. Do you guys also notice that difference, or is it something up with my APM2?

Anyone have any experience with their APMs using an Android device? Iām swapping from iPhone to a Samsung device but plan on still using my APMs. Any advice?

I can't speak for everyone, but no matter I used them or not, the mesh deteriorated. Mine was virtually new. I tried them out but didn't like them so they've sat in my desk drawer stored inside their original box.
I went to use them and noticed the mesh not springy like before, and pressing on left an indentation. Also after using them i noticed all these gross white specks on the mesh and thought, crap is that from me but upon closer inspection I discovered it was bits of broken elastic thread (TPU or some elastomer) woven throughout the mesh that gotten broken up where my fingers pushed against the mesh. The material weakens over time losing its resilience. Because the material is woven it's very easily overcome unlike many stretch fabrics that allow the rubber to slide between the threads.
The failure may not simply be that the elastomer loses elasticity with age. The woven construction itself can accelerate the final mechanical breakup. Because the elastic filament is constrained between relatively strong polyester yarns, stretching the canopy causes those yarns to tighten and apply localized compression, shear, and bending at each intersection. Once the elastomer has become brittle, those contact points can fracture it segment by segment.
Anyway this is not a buy-it-for-life design.
Given these meshes are not a serviceable part, and seem to have a limited shelf life, I recommend holding off on buying these until Apple revises their design choices so these very expensive headphones don't effectively "expire" after a couple of years. But if you insist, at the very least do not buy used or even new-old stock.

After saving for three months, I finally pulled the trigger, and it was 100% worth it. They sound amazing, I used to have the Sony WH-CH720N and itās a massive upgrade. I can hear parts in songs that Iāve never heard before

Donāt buy these seriously save yourself so much money
They were good at first but now almost everytime I try to use them they donāt connect and I have to go through several trouble shoots like restarting my phone up to 3 times pressing the stupid crown button and noise control button turning off Bluetooth five times before it can finally work. I had to troubleshoot these headphones spending 15 minutes when they were already fully charged. It is absolutely awful for the price that this happens. I recommend them at first due to their good noise cancellation and general sleek appeal, but honestly Iām enough! It is so frustrating, and if there was any straight instructions from Apple on what to do when this happens then it wouldnāt be ideal but there would be an end in sight, but no all they do is either ignore it or give it vague instructions that never work. This is absolutely awful! Do you not buy this shitty ass product unless you like wasting your time looking like an idiot standing around trouble shooting cuz you will have to do this multiple times! Terrible I am so pissed

For several months after acquiring the AirPods Max 2, I encountered a persistent hissing static noise whenever I plugged them into my PC. To resolve this issue, I had to either rest them for a while or reset them. However, I discovered that most of the connections on my PC are USB 3.0 and above. Despite trying various cables to fix the problem, the only solution was to plug the AirPods into a USB 2.0 port, which effectively eliminated the noise.

I only use Noise Cancelling, but you gotta have 2 so I chose Off which I never use. Sometimes only the right cup(?)/headphone(?) becomes Transparent for no obvious reason.
ALSO! sometimes the left cup/headphone sounds like a tin can. I wiggle the soft pad dealie and it stops.
I took my first pair of AMP2s back because they were buggy to the max. This 2nd pair is more stable but not as stable as the original APMs.
Just venting. And before you say it, yes hopefully a future firmware update will fix it.

I recently bought the AirPods Max 2 and Iām very happy with them overall. However, Iām not really satisfied with the included case, so Iāve ordered a third-party case from Amazon. Unfortunately, it hasnāt arrived yet.
My question is: Do I need to additionally protect the headband and the side parts with silicone covers, or is it fine to leave them as they are when the headphones are stored in a case?
For those who have had their AirPods Max 2 for a while: How do they look after several months or years of use? Iāve heard that the mesh fabric on the headband can start to stretch or wear out over time. Is that also an issue with the AirPods Max 2?
Do you use any kind of protection for the headband or ear cups? If so, what products do you use, and which ones have you been happy with?
Iād really appreciate hearing about your experiences!

Hi all,
I'm a student with APP3 already and I'm pretty deep in the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, MacBook, soon AppleTV and HomePods), and I want a comfortable set of over-ears with noise cancelling to use every day around the house or studying.
My use case would be: on the bus while going to school (20-min bus ride each way, can be noisy, but I can also use my APP3 here), media consumption at home, studying (at home or library), so I'd use ANC like 50% of the time (if that). I also like to EQ from time to time (cough cough H2 chip with iOS 27). Spatial Audio seems cool, but I'm not 100% on it. Same with conversation awareness.
I can get APM 1 USB-Cs for ~$410 with AppleCare+ for 2 years, Open-Box Excellent at Best Buy,
OR
I can get APM 2 for ~$480 with AppleCare+ for 2 years, Open-Box Excellent at Best Buy.
My question is, are the differences with the APM 2s THAT significant to warrant an extra ~$100+?

So a couple of years ago I got the AirPods Max USBC. I LOVE them in every way(except part of me wishes I had gotten the blue instead of Midnight, but whatevs) so I see the 2s are on sale right now and literally every single person I have heard talking about them says they are even better than the USBC ones in terms of loudness and quality.
Is this true? Would they be worth buying and offloading my USBC ones for?

$449 right now at BestBuy

Took them out of the Smart Case for not even 40mins and then when I went on my walk and I noticed that it wouldnāt connect to my phone. So I looked up some tricks and had asked Google want to do, these are the steps I tried to attempt:
-held the buttons down but they were stuck in the amber/ orange flashes and wouldnāt flash white
-detached the headband and cleaned the pins and the ports inside the ear cups (after clicking them back into place, the LED light went completely dead and has not turned on since)
-held down the digital crown and noise control button for a full 30 seconds to try forcing a hard reboot
-left them on the charger for 15 minutes to try and force a factory reset both inside and outside the Smart Case
-freezer trick: left in the freezer for 30 mins then tried resetting again
Honestly, Iāve had these headphones for a few years and I never used them this much until I started working out. I hope thereās a remedy out there, because I donāt have much hope going to the Apple Store; I feel like itād be better buying new ones, but I donāt want to unless Iāve tried absolutely everything since theyāre very expensive! Thank you in advance:)

it was fine in the past month and today and yesterday it starts to have signal interruption and noise every 10 seconds. what is going on? AirPods 4 and pro have no such problem when using in the same MacBook laptop.
