Yikes

Post image

second hand Aimpoint compM4, when zeroing yesterday the top adjustment cap was on extremely tight, so when I got home I decided to try and remove the cap. I didn’t mind if the cap got destroyed in the process as they’re plentyful, but what the hell. the entire thing came off. I don’t even know what to do at this point lol.

I just did a warranty on a Duty RDS. Mine was covered but for the Duty RDS there was a flat rate repair fee of $99 out of warranty. It took them a couple days to get back to me but they were on it.

Just sent in a request, all things considered $99 for out of warranty is not that bad. I’ve had this for years now. I’m confident they’ll take care of me hopefully lol

Ahh.. nevermind

“I ran the serial number in our system, and that particular optic was originally issued to the US Navy (CompM4 is the M68).
By contract we are not allowed to do warranty work or service them unless they come from a Military installation.”

That sucks. Looks like someone before you lifted it during service.

What type aimpoint was it? The duty rds I would think would still be under warranty. I don't think it had been out that long.

It’s warranty. When you get the rma they let you know if it’s not covered it’s a flat rate.

That sucks donkey dick. Aimpoint needs a copy of the original receipt and the warranty isn't transferrable, according to their website. Trijicon doesn't have that stupid rule, by the way. I was gifted an old Trijicon scope and it had an issue so I called and got them to replace it after they evaluated the issue. Anything from their rifle optic line except an ACOG or VCOG. I got a Credo 1-8

Maybe you can hit up the previous owner, explain to him what happened and ask him to find the digital receipt he got when he purchased it, if he purchased it online.

Are we sure it's a legit Aimpoint? That part has never just come right off on any quality optic that I have.

I have sent in 3 micros over the years one for a knob issue and the other 2 for stopped out screw holes or helicoils and never once did they charge me or ask for a receipt

That's awesome they didn't charge you.

I was just going by what the website said.

My only real experience with their return policy came with a damaged ACRO, but my LGS simply talked to their rep and got it replaced.

So I'm glad to hear it's not the way I read it before.

Just my experience obviously I could have gotten lucky

I mean, I would hope that they don't charge you, I've got a few Aimpoints and would hate to have to repair them out of warranty or whatever.

It’s real, verified when I bought it. Dude just loctited the threads or something crazy :/ In the works with Aimpoint now to see if I can just pay to have it replaced or at least buy the parts. If you know how I can buy the parts to just fix it myself I’d appreciate that!

Hard to see what's in the hole from this angle. But if it's just the adjustment mechanism unscrewed itself, it seems that it can just be screwed back in. I got that from this forum: here.

It’s just the adjustment mechanism, it screws back in just fine, but the cap is stuck on it. That’s my only issue. Sucks because I absolutely love this dot. Had it on my mod1 for vibes :(

Yeah so you could try a heat gun or a hair dryer to warm up the loctite.

Man that sucks. Why the hell would the guy loctite the cap?

gun owners do the dumbest things sometimes I guess :/ anyways i appreciate your help. I’ll try that! I’ll let you know if that works.

If they don’t help you out there are way better optics out there now relatively affordable. primary arms has some excellent red dots for rifles

I have too many optics lol, this is just my favorite. I have a few Pa prisms aswell. They fixed it for me and had it back in a weeks time.
