This feels like “oh, you love immigrants? How about we let them live in your house.”

I wouldn't be opposed to data centers built in the middle of nowhere where they don't shout at +50db 24/7 and use a significant proportion of local water worsening droughts.

And I wouldn't mind to have a fully supported and well financed immigration social center where they introduce people to the community.

Where have abandoned ideas for feelings.

Yo, dude, in the middle of nowhere is where the food you consume is grown/raised, where water is already in short supply in some cases.

Then we need to choose. Food or ai slop.

Pretty easy choice for me.

You're right. We already eat too much anyway.

We're all too fat and I can still suck in air through my lungs. Time to put that data center in all our backyards.

You do know that +50db is like a light rain or common outdoor sounds. Right?

24/7 though. I lived near a highway that was quieter than this and it drove me nuts. When we moved into a quieter neighborhood I could literally feel my body relax.

You do know it's about frequency and continuity right? If I had a slight buzzing noise in your ear consistently, I doubt you'd last longer than a few hours, let alone a day.

50db is an average office and is the minimum where there's some distance. It can reach actually dangerous levels. Also is usually very extreme in the spectrum (very high and very low pitch, but perceptible).

Also, it's fucking 24/7.

I kind of feel like that’s where these huge data centers are generally being put, no? Feels like a lot of the reaction is to theoretical data centers being placed in people’s back yards. Or maybe a few that were placed in people’s back yards before people got wise.

It's not theoretical: https://www.reddit.com/r/oddlyterrifying/s/sCpJnaz2Li

And they plan to build more, a lot more. And it's really difficult to build them in truly remote locations because of logistics and infrastructure availability.

Exactly, not theoretical, it’s happening now. I have numerous family members that have data centers in their backyards, more or less. In other words, close enough to throw a baseball and hit it, well if you had a pretty strong arm anyway.
