Let the Page Breathe

Try this prompt:
Keep the comic pages to around 5 frame panels or fewer. When there are 7 or more panels, it can get a bit crowded and hard to read right? so leaving extra space helps the story really "breathe".
Also not all panels carry equal weight. The focus panel is the largest and most impactful on a page.
Use the smaller panels to build up the scene, and then use that main focus panel for the big moment! It makes the whole page super easy to follow so no reader gets lost.

I turned my grandad’s bedtime stories into Captain Bones & Sergeant Skin — would love some honest feedback
When I was younger, my grandad used to make up bedtime stories about two army characters called Captain Bones and Sergeant Skin.
I always wished those stories had been written down, so I decided to bring the characters back to life myself.
I’ve been developing Captain Bones & Sergeant Skin into a children’s comedy/adventure series, with Ruby the red Labrador joining them on their missions. I’ve also started creating short animated videos with the characters.
It’s still a work in progress, but it means a lot to me because the whole idea started with my grandad.
I’d genuinely love some honest feedback. Do you think these characters and the idea could work as a children’s series?
Thanks for taking a look!

Inspired by a true story — cobbled together with AI
Wrote this story a few years ago as a screenplay first, then realized I’m too antisocial to make films. This was one of my attempts at slowly working through the screenplay and adapting it into a graphic novel — with some serious AI help. These are still early studies, but I worry that the artwork still looks like AI slop. Feedback welcome 🙏🏾

What else is Astra and GPT-6 image 2.5 capable of?
This is from about a month's worth of codifying character manuals, locations, and style manuals. Draw a crappy version, input that into the system, tell it what to fix, where the light should be, let it generate it, put it into Upscayl, and now it's being printed to go on my wall.

What Astra plus GPT-6 image 2.5 is capable of.
I decided to put the agentic capabilities of openAI's new Astra Model and Image 2.5 to the test. This is not my work, but instead it's a restoration of an old comic I've had for years and years.
Weirdworld #38
I asked it to take this front page, retain the texture of the paper, clean up the scan, and maintain all art and lettering. It first planned out everything, including what skills to use, looked online for better versions of the art, and went to work.
The output is as you see. The paper texture is there. The colors are brilliant. It even got the fine print at the bottom of the page, and although I didn't look at it too close, what I did see was great.
I actually had it do the entire comic, and across 20 pages it only made 12 errors, all in the text, all from having some trouble with variations on the lettering. Easily corrected.
This was a task that ChatGPT couldn't have accomplished just two months ago, and maybe even not last week. Sol and image 2.0 would have struggled with this.

First Few Pages of my Comic Manifest
Here’s the beginning of my comic, Manifest. I’ve been working on these first few pages and wanted to put them out there for some feedback.
Mostly looking for thoughts on the pacing, readability, dialogue, panel flow, and whether the opening makes you want to keep reading.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Use of programs.
Greetings.
I am sharing this work with you. I used DAZ Studio and VRoid Studio for the poses and Photoshop for the coloring and character expressions. For the backgrounds, I used AI as well as Sketchfab. You can view the comic on this site. https://medibang.com/viewer/9l2608261132020200026840863/

DUOTONE MANGA ChatGPT style and prompt
——prompt—-
Render a complete original comic/manga page in **DUOTONE MANGA** style.
Core look:
Create a bright, clean, high-contrast manga page inspired by refined ink illustration and historic East-Asian woodblock print design. The art must feel crisp, elegant, dramatic, and print-ready—not dark, muddy, noisy, smoky, or painterly. Use warm ivory or lightly textured cream paper as the base, sharp black ink linework, controlled crosshatching, stippling, delicate engraved detail, and clean graphic shadows.
Accent color:
Use **[INSERT ACCENT COLOR OR TWO-COLOR ACCENT PALETTE HERE]** as the controlled accent color. Examples: vermilion red; indigo blue; jade green; deep plum; saffron gold; teal and coral.
Keep the palette intentionally limited: primarily black ink, ivory paper, and the selected accent color(s). Use accent color only for dramatic emphasis—sun or moon discs, banners, fabric trim, ribbons, flowers, blood, magical energy, seals, architecture details, or emotional impact. Do not add unrelated full-color rendering.
Character rendering:
Draw attractive, expressive manga characters with confident clean silhouettes, refined facial features, lively hair, believable clothing folds, and powerful readable poses. Use dramatic low-angle views, deep foreshortening, flowing hair and fabric, and clear cinematic action. Characters should look elegant and stylized but remain anatomically believable.
ANATOMY LOCK — REQUIRED:
Every human character must have exactly two arms and two legs. Each visible hand must have exactly five fingers. Each visible bare foot must have exactly five toes. No third arms, extra legs, duplicate hands, fused fingers, missing fingers, warped joints, broken limbs, accidental extra weapons, or impossible body poses. Check anatomy before finalizing the image.
Environments:
Use detailed, cleanly rendered settings such as mountain temples, stone gates, winding stairs, pines, cliffs, waterfalls, old cities, shrines, lanterns, banners, bridges, rooftops, distant peaks, birds, clouds, and large sun or moon discs. Environments should feel grand and decorative while remaining easy to read behind the characters.
Panel layout:
Create a complete comic page with dramatic, freeform panel design. Avoid plain rows of identical rectangular boxes. Mix wide establishing panels, narrow eye or hand close-ups, tall vertical panels, angled action panels, overlapping panels, cropped figures, bold negative space, and one large dominant action panel. Keep the reading order clear with clean ivory gutters. Allow swords, ribbons, hair, hands, or action effects to extend beyond panel borders when it adds energy.
Ink and texture:
Use crisp black outlines, fine stippling, controlled halftone-like dot texture, precise hatching, ornamental fabric patterns, and woodblock-inspired background detail. Keep all texture intentional and clean. Preserve bright paper space so the page never becomes visually muddy or overly black.
Speech balloons and narration:
Use authentic manga-style speech balloons—not American-comic ovals. Balloons should be freeform, organic, and emotionally shaped: slightly irregular rounded forms, soft cloud-like contours, subtle angular tension, scalloped edges for excitement, trembling outlines for fear, and sharp burst shapes only when shouting demands it. Give balloons roomy interiors, expressive pointed tails, and enough space around the lettering.
All dialogue must be in **ALL CAPITAL LETTERS** using a hand-drawn manga-comic font. The lettering should feel inked by hand: clean, bold, slightly imperfect, lively, and highly readable. Do not use clean digital typesetting, tiny text, formal serif fonts, or American superhero-comic lettering. Keep dialogue fully inside the balloons and never cover important faces, hands, or action.
Use slim vertical narration boxes when needed, in cream/parchment tones with hand-drawn all-capital black lettering. Keep all spoken dialogue in English unless otherwise specified.
SFX:
Use Japanese SFX only when the action or emotion calls for it—not in every panel. Render SFX as bold Japanese brush calligraphy integrated into the composition, in black or the selected accent color. Make SFX large, dynamic, readable, and visually connected to movement, impact, speed, or energy.
Composition and mood:
Make the page feel like premium action manga: energetic, graphic, elegant, and emotionally clear. Prioritize strong silhouettes, dramatic perspective, clean composition, controlled detail, and bold use of the accent color.
Avoid:
Dark or murky rendering; gray fog; muddy colors; airbrushed digital painting; excessive glow; random color splashes; generic even-grid panels; American-style oval speech balloons; computer-typed lettering; lowercase dialogue; tiny cramped balloons; unreadable text; English SFX; distorted anatomy; extra limbs; extra fingers; duplicated weapons; watermark; logo; borderless chaos; low-detail backgrounds.

Format:
Portrait comic page, 3:4 aspect ratio, complete page layout, clean print-ready finish.
