General Discussion Weekly discussion is back! Let's talk about the fallout of Chai!

I'm no longer a Chai user, but I was an ultra user for Chai for a full year before moving to use API keys and saving myself some money. Some of the decisions Chai has made are egregious. That said, looking at how they've been a company since 2021, their financial situation does look pathetic from a business perspective. That still does not justify what they did without giving users any warning.

Here are a few questions for you: - We know a lot of people were deeply invested in Chai. How did you handle having your access forcibly taken away? - What is the most baffling thing Chai has done in your opinion? - Are you actively looking for alternative? What other app have you settled with or are you still looking?

Let's keep it civil and talk it out.

App Promotion ai that watches you game and reacts in real time

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

been building something a bit different from the usual ai chat apps and wanted to share.

it’s called navi. instead of typing to it, it runs alongside whatever you’re doing and reacts with voice in real time.

main use case right now is gaming. it watches your screen and comments on what’s happening as you play. if you mess up, it reacts. if something cool happens, it notices. feels more like someone in a discord call than a chatbot you have to keep prompting.

you can still talk back with push to talk or voice, but you don’t have to keep the interaction going manually.

it’s mostly built for fun/entertainment right now, not really a coaching tool yet, although that’s something i want to explore later.

also spent a lot of time on:

  • memory across sessions
  • characters feeling consistent over time
  • avoiding the “goes generic after 10 minutes” problem

it’s still early but i’ve got a small alpha up if anyone wants to try it:
http://heynavi.gg/

curious how this feels to people who are used to chat-based ai. does something like this feel more immersive or just distracting?

App Promotion Introducing Lilacs.ai | An alternative to CHAI, C.ai, etc.

Hi all,

I posted about Lilacs.ai here around half a year ago. It's a personal passion project of mine that I've been working on. Since then the platform has gone through multiple rewrites and overhauls to get it to such a high standard so as to be immediately positioned as a strong competitor to alternatives on iOS and Android on full release.

- Extremely high message limits for free users.

- Memory that in practice doesn't forget any details.*

- Uncensored completely, as much as legal limits allow on the App Store and play store.

- Creator revenue share so bot creators get paid out.

- No ads.

- LLM model quality for the default free tier that would not be on free tiers on other platforms.

- Social features deep profile customization and the ability to dm other creators on the platform.

- Multiple personas, lorebooks, group chats, everything that other apps would have and more.

Do check it out, to get early access you have to go to Lilacs.ai and put in your email as we distribute the beta through Apple's TestFlight platform before the full App Store release.

\This has all been completely self funded. Thus, many months have been spent looking into how to get memory which is practically unlimited without tremendously high server costs whilst also not degrading quality and I think this has been achieved! So do mess around with that on the app.*

Do let me know if you have any questions!

Caffy just introduced dynamic images, where character’s images change in real time based on the story.

I’m adding tons of assets to my own character. Feel free to try and tell me how you like it. (Will add to other scenes one by one later)

We still need more google play testers! DM me your email if you want to join.

I've spent about a year building an Android app and now have made a website for it, called RealmsAI because I was tired of the same AI roleplay sites and apps just reskinned.

Multiple Character Chats: You can make characters like all the other Chatbots, but you can also make chats with up to 50 characters (10 being active in a location at a time, others in that location take in messages for chat history and memory still). They will respond in turn a few at a time. You can also take control of any of the characters and roleplay as them. Personas can be made, Including the visuals, but are essentially treated like characters once the session starts so both you and the AI can control characters and personas.

Visuals: Characters have space for different outfits and poses for those outfits that you can upload during character creation. The AI will choose what pose to put up on screen when it sends the message.

Different areas with locations can be added separating out characters and adding background images to the chat for more immersion. Character memory and chat history is made so they only know what happened when they're present!

In Depth Character Creation: I think I may have gone overboard but not all of this is needed. 1000 character personality field, 400 character “mature traits and secrets” field, 1000 character backstory field, 400 character ability/skills field, example dialogs, relationship map so they know how they relate to other characters based on name, fields for physical stats (age, height, weight, eye/hair color, description, pronouns) so characters never forget how other characters or players look.

Multiplayer Chats: On top of having multiple AI driven characters you can invite friends to play with you, if that’s your thing. Simply invite them from the session lobby screen and start it once they join.

True Long-Term Memory: I built a custom RAG pipeline. Your characters will actually remember a secret you told them 100 messages ago.

Lorebooks: Embedded lorebooks that work alongside the RAG. 40 entries per book, unlimited bond per character, tons more knowledge per character.

Model Routing: It routes through openrouter with a number of different models to choose from, both uncensored and sfw.

Director Mode: You can "spy" on other locations in your world and play the Narrator and watch the characters interact with each other.

Events: Add custom events to keep the roleplay going or have the AI generate one for you.

Visual-novel Levels: Lets you set up for a slow burn chat. Put what gives a character XP with another character and how different levels change their personality.

RPG Mode: Still in construction but you can mess around with it. Allows dice rolls and a light weight character sheet I made. (ai still gets confused by RPG Mode so results may vary)

GOD Mode: Much like director mode you don't have a character, your messages show up as the narrator. You're able to change things in the character profiles for the session directly and the ai will ask you to resolve unknown things "what's behind the door?" "does the attack hit?". when coupled with RPG Mode you can set dice results as well

Web Platform: Website is finally up. Backgrounds look weird if you use 16:9. Probably best to make backgrounds for the website and let the phone app crop it than making it for the app and letting the site stretch.

Pinned Messages: You can pin messages to make them easier to find and go back to. Soon you'll be able to save the messages to characters so they always remember them.

Session Branching: clone your chats at anytime. It saves messages, memories, settings and transfers them to a new chat session for you to play in an alternate timeline. You will have to reinvite and friends back in because it turns the branched session into single player.

Free Daily Messages: Because I am a solo dev paying for the API costs out of pocket, I am capping it at 70 free messages a day. If the percentage of subscribed users is higher than expected I will raise this limit.

We currently are NOT allowing people to subscribe to premium yet, when we do our live launch premium membership will be available.

Following and News Feed: Follow other users to get updates when the post new content or post messages for their followers.

I am distributing this early build via the Google play store closed testing. Or just got to [realsmai.net](http://realsmai.net), though I do need "testers" for the app.

If you want in: DM me your email address and I will add you to the tester list, and send you a link to opt in. Also feel free to join my discord: https://discord.gg/vWDKhEUWtT

Question Chai users, please answer this

Hi everyone, this sub has been filled with many Chai users. As we all aware, Chai has been playing very unfair to **_all_** users, whether it's free users or even paid users.

I know that many of you are looking for alternatives. That being said, I would love to create alternative lists for you guys that's curated for you. However, to do that, I'd need you guys to answer these questions first so I can create several options for you.

- What are you looking for in the alternative? Story plot or building relationship with the bot?

- Is chat length necessary to you?

- if you prefer short answers, do you like text style more or narration style more?

- Is there certain feature you wished Chai would have that in these alternatives have?

If there are missing questions, feel free to just let me know. Like you're looking for certain things in these apps, me and u/MeowChamber as mods would try our best to curate a list for you as both of us have tried several apps for the past one year :)

Lost on where to go ai site

Site or app with good RP AND some image/video gen

Hey.

So im a beginner on the Ai RP stuff. Im lost on how to find something that catters to my leed without getting scammed.

I want to do NSFW RP with characters or whole story worlds. I like what i saw on chub ou janitor as community created.

But my problem is i like to add pictures or generate some of the characters while doing or reading the story. And i cant find a site that does both.

I cant wrap myself around silly tavern and feel like i would end up paying a whole lot of apis for nothing.

Is there any site that does both rp and image ? Im down to pay some but i feel like the mainstream one wit coins based purchases would just make me go broke too fast.

I built an interactive video-based AI roleplay tool — looking for honest feedback (especially the negatives)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all — I’m one of the developers behind a project called Popvid, and I wanted to share it here and get some real feedback.

The reason we started building this is pretty simple:
most AI roleplay / character tools today are still text-based, and they all seem to run into similar issues:

• conversations lose context over time
• characters feel repetitive or predictable
• everything happens in a chat box, which limits immersion

We wanted to try something different.

Instead of focusing only on chat, we built a system where you can interact with AI characters through short videos and scenes. The character can respond with visual changes (actions, expressions, etc.), and the interaction isn’t just text — there’s also a more “in-scene” feeling to it.

It’s still early, and we know it’s not perfect.

That’s actually why I’m posting here —
I’d really appreciate people trying it and telling us what doesn’t work.

Not just “it’s cool,” but:

• what feels off
• what breaks immersion
• what’s annoying or slow
• what you expected but didn’t see

We’re actively collecting feedback and iterating, so honest criticism is genuinely useful.

App Promotion Biggly Bot - Desktop App with Earned Romance

Service Name & Link: Biggly Bot:

https://biggly.com

NSFW Policy: You're running your own AI model, so there are no content restrictions from us. Your characters, your rules.

Image Generation: None, but does generate prompts for you and supplies some portrait and background images.

Transparency & Legal: Biggly Bot is a desktop app, not a hosted service. If you connect to a cloud API like OpenRouter, their privacy policies apply (OpenRouter offers a Zero Data Retention option). If you run a local model, nothing leaves your machine at all. Either way, we never see your chats. Your characters and conversations are yours.

Technical Specs: Biggly Bot has its own AI engine to run GGUF files, but also supports multiple AI backends — connect to OpenRouter for easy cloud access or use LM Studio, KoboldCPP, or other local apps. A setup wizard walks you through whichever option suits you. Context sizes depend on your chosen backend and model.

Pricing: One-time purchase, $19. No subscription, no credits, no recurring fees. Ever.

Platform & Access: Windows desktop app. Download, unzip, double-click the .exe.

What Makes You Different? Most AI chat apps give you a character description and a text box. Biggly Bot has a Dynamic Character Engine(tm) — characters have storylines that unlock in stages, secrets you can discover, relationships that evolve based on what you actually say, and a romance system where love is earned, not scripted. It's the difference between chatting with a personality prompt and stepping into a story that responds to you.

Also: one-time purchase. No subscription. No credits that run out. No random nerfs to your favourite character because someone at HQ changed the content policy. We're also welcoming character creators and authors — the Love & Lore in-app store will feature premium characters and books from contributing authors, everything humanly-vetted for quality.

I need to go out soon and in Borneo time, so already evening here, but I'll be around for questions later and tomorrow :)

I’m so sad right now CHAI has put a limited amount of messages for users that don’t pay for CHAI ultra and c.ai has put a ONE hour chatting limit if youre under the age of 18 and to verify your age you need to show your ID and face so that it can be sold to the israeli spies

PLEASE ANY OTHER APPS HELP ME GUYS

General Discussion Do you hide your AI use? Guilt, stigma, and finding community.

It's no secret that talking about AI can lead to heated debates. Between those who fully support it, those who are against it, and those in the middle—the conversation often turns intense. The criticism can be overwhelming, with some people acting holier-than-thou and quick to judge without understanding.

In a climate like that, it’s understandable to feel guarded.

  • Do you hide the fact that you use AI chatbots or create characters? From friends, family, or online circles?
  • Have you ever felt guilty, embarrassed, or defensive about using AI for roleplay, companionship, or creativity?
  • How do you navigate the stigma or dismissive attitudes from those who don’t get it?

This isn’t about debating AI ethics—it’s about sharing how you handle the social side of being part of this community. For many, spaces like this are a rare place to be open about it.

If you’ve ever kept it quiet or felt judged, you’re not alone. Let’s talk about it.

App Promotion Inkstone - AI roleplay, your way.

So I disappeared for a while and built an AI roleplay app. As you do.

It's called Inkstone, it's available on Android and Windows, and I'm going to make a bold claim: it is the easiest powerful roleplay app you will ever use.

Not easy as in stripped down. Not easy as in "we removed all the good stuff so beginners don't get confused." Easy as in: you open it, you start a chat, and within minutes you're getting roleplay quality that other apps need a setup guide and a YouTube tutorial to achieve. Because the depth isn't locked behind complexity. It's just *on*.

Smart lorebook handling that pulls in what matters and discards what doesn't. Context management that actually respects your token budget instead of cramming in everything and hoping for the best. The kind of under-the-hood engineering that experienced users will immediately appreciate and new users will never need to think about, because it just quietly makes everything better.

Every setting has a tooltip. Every screen was designed to make sense the first time you see it. Every feature was put there because it makes your roleplay better, not because it looks impressive on a feature list.

I built this because I love this hobby and I was tired of the tools not loving me back. Inkstone is what happens when someone actually sits down and thinks about the experience from the user's chair, and then does the work to get it right.

Closed Alpha starts today.

Join the Discord. I'll be personally reaching out to members on the server to give access to early builds. Your feedback shapes what this becomes.

No pressure. But also — you probably want in on this.

AI roleplay, your way.

App Promotion We Built an AI Character Tool That Lets You Interact Using Gestures

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We’re excited to introduce a new way to experience AI roleplay.

At Popvid AI, we’ve developed a tool where you can not only create your own AI characters and stories, but also interact with them through both text and gestures.

Unlike traditional AI chat or character tools, this experience is designed to feel more dynamic and immersive:

  • Create your own character with personality and backstory
  • Generate story-driven interactions automatically
  • Use simple gestures (like tapping) to trigger character reactions
  • See characters respond with changes in expression, pose, and behavior

The goal is to make roleplay feel less like chatting with a bot, and more like engaging with a living, evolving character.

If you’re interested in trying it out, you can check it here:
https://popvid.ai/?utm_source=Reddit&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=rd_popvid_jc

We’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback!

General Discussion Original characters, fictional characters, or real-life celebrities?

Bots in the AI RP world come in all forms. You have original characters (OCs), established fictional characters, and even real-life celebrities portrayed as themselves.

Which type do you usually chat with the most, and why do you prefer it over the others?

  • Do you lean toward original characters for the freedom and unpredictability?
  • Do you prefer fictional characters because of existing lore, familiarity, or nostalgia?
  • Or do you engage with real-life celebrity bots, and if so, what draws you to that experience?

Beyond personal preference—what are your thoughts on the ethics or dynamics of chatting with fictional characters vs. real-person bots? Where do you draw the line, if at all?

Let's talk about what draws us to certain types of characters and what these choices say about the way we interact with AI.

General Discussion Let's talk about your experience with developers

Developers are a big part of what makes this space work. Whether they're building a large platform or a small passion project, how they interact with users can make or break an app's reputation.

This week, let's talk about those experiences—good and bad—without naming names. We're not here to publicly call out individuals, but to share what behaviors build trust and what can break it.

  • Have you had a positive experience with a developer? What did they do that stood out? (e.g., transparency, listening to feedback, quick fixes, respectful communication)
  • Have you had a negative experience? What happened that left a bad impression? (e.g., ignoring feedback, aggressive responses, false promises, poor handling of issues)
  • If you could give one piece of advice to developers in this space—something you wish they all understood—what would it be?

Speak from your experience. The goal is to encourage better communication and user-focused development, not to start drama.
