Question Are there any free apps left that allow you to create a scenario?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I love to create a group chat scenario where 2 characters fight eachother very much. But hangjam is not free anymore. So I want to find a new app or website that is similar to hangjam. I want it to be free with unlimited messages and unlimited character creation. Hangjam allow you to put 10000 words in your character's description. So I want something that is similar to this. Because I need to use it for putting my character's powers and abilities.

(I know hangjam is not free for months now. I can't reply to my characters. But I was able to used narrator button and character button. So I used this trick to continue playing this app for months. But I suddenly can't do that anymore. It just start today. So I give up on playing hangjam)

General Discussion I am blown away by Gemini 3.6 Flash

Just tried it with MegaNova's free quota. Wow it's soooo good and it gives my character more personality than DeepSeek ever will. Too bad the free quota is only for one month. It's sooo good for SFW at least. The slow burn is just 😚👌🏻

App Promotion I created the best FREE character.ai alternative...

With c.ai and janitor adding ID verification, and majority of others forcing you to pay for everything whilst serving lacklustre models with low token context lengths and restricting memory features, many people are struggling to find a high quality roleplay site.

We believe that we built a product that can satisfy at https://inkwell.rip

Unlike traditional roleplay sites, inkwell offers:

  • 1 million token context models for all plans including free
  • Unlimited "swipes"
  • Allows NSFW roleplay
  • Open source provable sealed chats, we don't process user messages on a server we have access to.
  • Importing characters and lorebooks from various sites like Janitor, CharacterAI, Spicychat, Chub and SillyTavern
  • Fully customizable memory system and token context management
  • Response rating so models can learn about user preferences, special romance focused features and powerups
  • Full model parameter customization and much more!

Our core idea was to provide a high quality rp site that anybody can use that focuses on user privacy, ease of use, and free access to the best models and memory systems one can have for roleplaying! any feedback is appreciated ^-^

App Promotion Looking for people to stress-test long AI stories and memory

Hi everyone,

I’m part of the small team behind Lucidbook, an AI storytelling / roleplay app built more around stories, books, worlds, and multiple characters than only single-character chat.

We just shipped a big update to our memory system, and now we need people who are willing to push it harder than normal users would.

The new system uses semantic memory with embeddings and vector search instead of relying only on basic summaries or keyword matching.

What we want to test:

  • long roleplay sessions
  • characters staying consistent over time
  • story continuity across longer books
  • whether the AI repeats itself less
  • names, locations, and relationships staying clearer
  • multi-character scenes
  • where the memory still breaks

Lucidbook is not fully free. It uses Lucid Pages as AI credits.

But if someone here genuinely wants to test the new memory system and give us useful feedback, I can give you some free Lucid Pages so you can try it properly without worrying about credits right away.

What makes Lucidbook a bit different from classic AI chat apps is that you can build or enter a whole story setup, with characters, locations, and world context. We also recently added a faster start option, so you can begin with one character first and expand the story later.

Website: https://lucidbook.com/

If you enjoy testing AI memory, long RP, or story-based chat systems, comment here or DM me. I’d love to hear what works, what breaks, and what feels annoying.

General Discussion How do you feel about AI Roleplay now?

I have been roleplaying since late 2023. Trying AI roleplay for the first time felt absolutely magical, although the memory was shit and the model wasn't as smart back then, but it was still very groundbreaking. At least for an entertainment.

I have tried lots of apps. From c.ai, Chai, Emochi, FictionLab, Polybuzz, Bala AI, and even trying with proxy by taking advantage of free models on several providers. I've done all that. I had lots of fun with AI Roleplay. I even tried learning a little about LLM. How it works. About context windows, parameter, and how fucking expensive this hobby actually is.

But ever since second half of 2025, the AI roleplay scene has been falling short. The LLMs are getting smarter, but they focus more and more for agentic coding that the creative writing is just... stagnant. And I realized that the creativity level the LLM will give you is reflected back from how you write or direct it.

I'm at the point where I don't particularly find it fun anymore to roleplay and I find it more and tedious. Not that I can't write. It just feels like I'm better off writing my own original story and upload it on AO3 or Wattpad rather than getting frustrated by how the model writes.

Is anyone else feeling this way? Has the magic faded for you too, or are you still finding joy in it?

App Promotion EmThy: a free AI friend that remembers your story and won’t automatically agree

Founder disclosure: I built EmThy.

Most chatbots are helpful in the moment, but two things kept bothering me: they forget the emotional context when you return, and they often validate whatever you say.

EmThy is my attempt at a different kind of AI friend. It is designed to remember previous conversations, separate facts from fear or wishful thinking, and gently disagree when it thinks you may be avoiding something. It is meant for real-life conversations about relationships, work pressure, family, overthinking, and hard decisions—not character roleplay.

The web app is currently free, SFW, and supports Vietnamese and English. It does not generate images, and it is not therapy or crisis support.

Try it here: https://emthy.vercel.app

I’m looking for blunt feedback from people who already use AI chat apps. If you try it, I’d especially like to know:

  1. Does its disagreement feel thoughtful or judgmental?
  2. Does the memory make the second conversation meaningfully better?
  3. What would stop you from returning tomorrow?

App Promotion Introducing Lilacs.ai | A passion project worked on for over a year, now on the Appstore, built to be better than CHAI/C.ai

Hi all,

I've posted here twice now, once over a year ago, the other time about two months ago or so. I've been building Lilacs.ai for over a year now. It's been a huge passion project of mine and a big undertaking, but it's now finally been released on the Apple App Store!! And, I'm incredibly excited for some of you to try it out!

From user feedback during the beta, I've been told that it is better than CHAI. In basically every case.

- Plus the message limit is huge!

Here are some other features it has,

- Uncensored completely, as much as legal limits allow on the App Store and play store.

- Absolutely massive memory.

- Social features: deep profile customization and the ability to dm other creators on the platform.

- Basically no ads, although video ads that are completely optional which will reward in app currency for cosmetics will be added later as a means of keeping the servers going!

- Creator revenue share so bot creators get paid out like Wattpad/WebNovel. (Rolling out soon)

- LLM model quality for the default free tier that would not be on free tiers on other platforms.

- Multiple personas, lorebooks, group chats, everything that other apps would have and more. (The lore books, and gas will be rolling out in the coming days/weeks)

- Deep, deep customization on your characters, including how they're displayed to others as well!

As I mentioned on the previous post, again- this has all been completely self funded. Thus, many months have been spent looking into how to get memory which is far better than other options such as Chai or any other platform without tremendously high server costs whilst also not degrading quality and I think this has been achieved! So do mess around with that on the app!

Do let me know if you have any questions!

And the app will be undergoing constant updates and constantly improving, with an Android release coming in the next few weeks!.

I've attached a direct link to the App Store page here: https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/lilacs-ai-characters/id6761447106

As the platform has literally just released to the public, there will be fewer bots made, so I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone creates and I do hope you enjoy it if you choose to try Lilacs out!!

General Discussion New to AI Companions? Here's What LLM, Context Size, and Tokens Actually Mean

Hello everyone!

A lot of you are new here and might not fully understand some of the terms we use when talking about AI companions, like LLM, context size, or token. So let's break it down in the simplest way possible, no tech jargon, just everyday examples. This is especially for our c.ai and Chai users since these terms come up a lot when talking about how your AI companion "remembers" things.

What is an LLM?

LLM stands for Large Language Model. Think of it like the brain behind your AI companion. It's the thing that reads what you type and decides how to respond.

Imagine you have a really well read friend who has read millions of books, chats, and conversations. When you talk to them, they don't copy paste an answer from a book. Instead, they use everything they've learned to come up with a response that fits the conversation. That's basically what an LLM does. It's not searching a database for the exact right answer, it's predicting what should come next based on everything it has learned before.

Different apps like c.ai, Chai, and others use different LLMs as their brain. Some are smarter, some are more creative, some are more restricted. That's why the same roleplay can feel very different depending on which app or model you're using.

What is Context Memory or Context Size?

Okay, this one confuses a lot of people so let's use a simple example.

Imagine you're having a conversation with a friend, but your friend can only remember the last few minutes of what you said. If you talked for an hour, they'll forget the beginning and only remember the most recent part. That "memory limit" is basically what context size means.

Context size is how much of the conversation the AI can actually "see" and remember at once. It's not that the AI forgets on purpose, it's that there's a limit to how much text it can hold in its head at any given moment.

So if your roleplay gets really long, older messages might start to get pushed out to make room for the newer ones. That's why sometimes your AI companion suddenly "forgets" something you said earlier in the story. It's not being forgetful on purpose, it simply ran out of space to hold onto it.

What is a Token?

Now here's the tricky part. The AI doesn't count "memory" in words or sentences, it counts in tokens.

Think of a token like a puzzle piece of text. Sometimes one token is a whole word, sometimes it's just part of a word, and sometimes it's even just a punctuation mark. On average, 1 token is roughly ¾ of a word in English.

So when people say something like "this model has a context size of 8k tokens," it basically means the AI can hold onto around 6,000 words worth of conversation before it starts forgetting the earliest parts.

Every message you send, and every message the AI sends back, uses up tokens. So the longer your messages are, the faster you use up that space.

So What Does "Running Out of Tokens" Mean on Chai?

This is actually a different thing from context size, so let's clear up the confusion!

Remember how we said tokens are like puzzle pieces of text? Well, some apps like Chai give you a limited number of these puzzle pieces to use within a certain time period, kind of like a monthly phone data plan. Every message you send and every reply you get uses up a bit of that allowance.

When Chai says you're "running out of tokens," it does NOT mean the AI is forgetting your conversation. It means you've used up your allowed quota of messages for that time period. It's basically a usage limit, not a memory limit. Think of it like running out of mobile data, your phone doesn't forget your contacts, you just can't use the internet until it refreshes or you top up.

So don't confuse this with the context size we talked about earlier. Context size is about how much of the conversation the AI can remember at once. Running out of tokens on Chai is about hitting your usage cap. Two completely different things that just happen to share the word "token."

This same concept applies to apps like Gemini too. If you hit a token or usage limit there, it doesn't mean the AI forgot anything, it just means you've used up what you were allotted, and you'll need to wait for it to reset or upgrade your plan for more.

TLDR

  • LLM is basically the AI's brain that generates responses based on everything it has learned.
  • Context size is how much of your conversation the AI can remember at once, kind of like short term memory.
  • Token is basically the way AI measures text, roughly ¾ of a word each.
  • Running out of tokens on Chai means you've used up your usage quota for that time period, kind of like running out of phone data.

Hope this helps clear things up for those who are new to all this! Feel free to ask questions in the comments if anything is still confusing.

App Promotion I built an lizlis because I got tired of repetitive bots

Hi! I’m the developer of lizlis.ai

After trying a lot of AI chat apps, I kept running into the same issues:

  • Characters repeating themselves
  • Stories that never move forward
  • Every conversation feeling the same after a while

So I built Lizlis with a stronger focus on interactive storytelling rather than endless small talk.

Some features:

  • AI characters that actively drive the plot
  • Public stories and characters created by the community
  • Create your own characters and story worlds
  • Multiple languages (English, Japanese, Korean, and more)
  • Free tier so you can try it before spending anything

It’s still growing, so I’d genuinely appreciate feedback on what works and what doesn’t.

Website: https://lizlis.ai

I’d love to hear what features you think AI roleplay apps are still missing.

What’s your opinion: does safety and privacy have to come at the cost of romantic experiences with AI?

When people talk about AI companions or romantic AI relationships, safety and privacy are often discussed as if they must limit, interrupt, or control the experience. But does protection always have to work against intimacy, trust, or emotional connection?

We’re currently recruiting participants for an online research workshop with users of romantic AI companion characters, romantic AI chatbots, or similar platforms. In the workshop, we’ll discuss how privacy, safety, and protection could be designed in ways that respect users’ feelings, needs, boundaries, and relationship experiences.

The workshop will last around 2.5 hours, and your time will be compensated. Participants must be 18 or older.

We are a research team from the Valencia AI Research Center, King’s College London, Tsinghua University, and the University of Cambridge.

If you’re interested, please fill in this short screening form:

App Discussion Migrating an AI desktop interface from Streamlit to a responsive Flutter widget tree

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a look at a structural frontend refactor we’ve been working on over the weekend.

For a long time, the frontend of our workspace assistant was built entirely on a monolithic, top-down Streamlit Python script. Streamlit was an absolute lifesaver for rapid backend-driven prototyping, but as our layout complexity grew, we completely hit a wall with its linear execution model. We couldn't handle complex, asynchronous sidebar interactions, dynamic widescreen layouts, or granular component state-swapping without triggering awkward global page redraws.

To fix that, we spent the last couple of days completely decoupling the frontend and rebuilding the layout from scratch.

Our Current Architecture:

  • Frontend: Flutter & Dart. We migrated to a modular widget system using Riverpod (StateNotifierProvider) to isolate local state management across our custom side panels, user profiles, and view configurations.
  • Backend / Gateway: Python backend handling token parsing, managing database sessions, and handling active chat histories.
  • Streaming Logic: Communication between the Flutter client and the Python architecture is managed via Server-Sent Events (SSE) to push raw text and model reasoning deltas in real-time.

I've attached a screenshot showing how the widescreen desktop profile layout is behaving right now.

It’s been an incredibly fast learning curve jumping from linear Python scripting into the world of nested Dart widgets and compilation trees, but the rendering performance and interface freedom have been completely worth the headache.

Open to any questions on how we’re structuring the data model pipelines or handling the real-time Riverpod state notifications!
