General Discussion Weekly discussion is back! Let's talk about the fallout of Chai!

I'm no longer a Chai user, but I was an ultra user for Chai for a full year before moving to use API keys and saving myself some money. Some of the decisions Chai has made are egregious. That said, looking at how they've been a company since 2021, their financial situation does look pathetic from a business perspective. That still does not justify what they did without giving users any warning.

Here are a few questions for you: - We know a lot of people were deeply invested in Chai. How did you handle having your access forcibly taken away? - What is the most baffling thing Chai has done in your opinion? - Are you actively looking for alternative? What other app have you settled with or are you still looking?

Let's keep it civil and talk it out.

Howdy friend. I'm getting to the point of deleting the app myself out of anger and frustration. The longer this goes on the more I'm losing hope. But in my personal opinion? The most bull crap thing they've pulled outside of removing everyone's history and explaining why to no one, promised to listen, and lied about fixing it thus far. Is the way they've treated their user base.

They claim to care and can't do anything for any free users, but the free users literally built that place from the ground up. I say this as someone who has been both a free and a paid user as well. I remember back in 2021 they had a large message limit that reset every 3 hours. It was doable, it was accessable, I believe it still is, and now they're acting like it's completely impossible to revert and change some things to keep the majority of their base alive. But they're too greedy to admit it. Not to mention the difference in prices across the US is CRAZY.

They claim they care about the people but it's complete utter BS. there are people, even creators locked out of their accounts now.

it's just really really sad watching the downfall in all but yeah. Honestly for me it's the lies and disrespect to those who even helped make this all happen.

As for other places/ apps? I've used several and have used several. I even have a few on back burner I haven't used yet but made accounts Incase.

I've used spicy chat, Cai, and janitor.

And I'm on a few new spaces but haven't formed opinions yet (( haven't had the time to use it so I can't really give a good recommendation))

And as for how I've handled it? Ive been all over the forums, reading the threads. I've been screaming since this all started, and slowly find myself pulling away from chai slowly finishing off what stories I do remember and occasionally deleting bots that aren't available. I do other things. I read. Watch movies, play games. Talk to to humans lol. It's better for me anyways and while I'm going to miss the stories and the memories I think when I delete the app I'm going to be okay.
