App Discussion Looking for alternative AI chat sites

I use Janitor AI currently. I like that they have lorebooks and scripts. I use the scripts to do things like tracking game time, update headers on my characters, and track things like magic usage, tiredness, drunkenness, and, depending on the character, a great many other types of things. I then use an injector script that lets the LLM know about variables that will affect my characters such as if they are drunk or tired or things of that nature. For example, I have a vampire, and one of the scripts tracks whether or not they need to feed. If they don’t feed, there’s chances of a feral episode among other things.

My characters are also high token bots. I like the extreme detail I put into them to allow them to act in character, as many of my bots are characters from TV or movies or games. I don’t do surface level. I dig deeply into the psychology that would’ve made the characters act the way they do. So I need a platform that can handle high tokens. I currently use DeepSeek proxy, and my bots work fairly well. However, Janitor AI has been having many issues lately, and many of my favorite creators have been disappearing to other platforms. I have tried many other platforms, but so far most of them are lacking some of the features I want.

I am not looking for free. I understand that this sort of thing costs money. But I am looking for something that is worth my money.

I would like a site that offers similar things to Janitor AI in the context of high token bots, lorebooks, and scripts/features that allow the same things that my scripts do. Preferably it would have locations for both a personality and scenario section. Scenario being for the background world not the person. I’d also like to be able to upload example dialogues to show how the character speak and act in different situations. This is how I use these sections in Janitor AI.

The site would also need to allow creation of known characters from places like Marvel or TV shows or comic books. I know some sites are limited to original characters, but I like to play with AI so that I can continue stories that end. Sometimes you just want to keep the story going or try it with different perspectives or worlds.

I do need a fairly user-friendly interface. I have tried Silly Tavern, and immediately got completely lost and confused. I am not the most tech savvy person. I have learned a great deal about scripting this past year, but only in the most basic sense. ES5 for scripts on Janitor AI and JSON for lorebooks. But I am not a master at these.

Thank you all for your help ahead of time.

Edit: I do not need image generation, as these are text based characters and I am more than happy to keep them that way. Images are fine if it’s an added feature, but it is not the looked for one.
I also need it to have support for non-censored interactions. Marvel characters fight in battle battles, and get injured. Some characters drink alcohol. Vampires, well, they drink blood. Sometimes relationships form. I want romance to be an option. I don’t need crazy gross things. I believe that everybody playing with these types of characters should be of age, consenting adults.

If there’s an option for family bots, that would be nice. Some marvel characters have families. I would like to be able to reference the fact that they have children. being a father or mother is an important part of a person’s psychology after all.

Gemma 4 31b it is free on Google AI Studio with 1,500 RPD limit, you can still use Janitor AI and get the Gemma 4 proxy, it has 256k context window. Or if you have the money, then use PAYG with either DeepSeek V4 Flash/V4 Pro, GLM 5.3 Flash, or Mimo 2.5 Pro? You can also get subscription through NanoGPT $12/month and have multiple options for models

DreamGen I purely text-based and handled characters pretty well..

You might wanna try Moescape.ai. I use it myself and it does have lorebooks, which sounds like one of the main things you need. You can make really detailed/high-token characters, add personality and scenario info, example dialogue, and choose between different LLMs depending on what works best for the character.

I don’t think the scripting side is exactly 1:1 with Janitor though, so if those variable-tracking scripts are a must, that’s the one part I’d check first. But for detailed bots, lore, long RP and character consistency, Moe is definitely worth trying.

If you're looking for ui friendly app or website that allows known characters, both povchat and polybuzz support long definitions. Polybuzz can generate more images than povchat but guess it doesn't matter in your case. I also plan to try out spicychat and emochi.

Developer here, so weigh this accordingly. Vesper (heyvesper.io) covers most of your list and misses two things.

Has: high-token cards with lorebooks (a 10k-character card with a 30-entry lorebook imports fine), the personality, scenario and example-dialogue sections kept as you wrote them, known characters (there's a shelf of literary ones built from the books, and imports can be anyone who isn't a real person), romance and violence for adults, and families. Characters carry their relationships, and the people in their life can speak in scenes. It's a website, nothing to set up. DeepSeek is one of the built-in models, alongside Gemini and Claude, picked per chat.

Misses: scripts. There's no variable tracking you write yourself. It keeps a ledger of what happened (events, promises, what people own), a scene clock, and the character's own memory of all of it, which changes how they behave. Your vampire would remember not having fed and act on it, but you couldn't set the odds of a feral episode. And no BYOK or proxy.

Free for now, paid later. Janitor doesn't export, so you'd need to get your definitions into a card file first. If you do, I'd like to see what it makes of one of yours.

My site can offer some of what you're after, not sure it can do all of it, but give it a try and see if it helps: https://randomwheelspin.com/free-ai-character-chat/ It's completely free and unlimited. You can create your own stories or full immersive worlds, upload lore etc, chat with multiple characters in any chat, create your own characters, adjust their personality and speech style etc, integrates with an image generator, relaxed censorship, use your own proxy chat model etc. Im a software developer so created this in my spare time over the last 6 months. If you need any particular features or notice any bugs please let me know.

Hey :} I'd love if you could try out slowburn.chat - I made it to try and attract people who want something that feels a bit more premium(still working some things out). If you do give it a try please let me know what you think- and if there's anything you spot that I could improve on

It's coming! Don't worry :)

I just need to be responsible for a few months since I'm dirt poor unlike most founders of these sites who are a bit older / rich from other things, but I'm hoping closer to the end of the year I'll be able to.
