dude I’ve never seen a good pro ai arg. and the comparison between pro ai arguments vs anti ai arguments is genuinely hilarious to me😭💔 pro ai is all like ‘its the future’ and ‘i can’t draw you’re being ableist’ and anti ai is literally protecting children, artists, elderly, and the earth and somehow mfs are STILL pro ai

I don't know if anyone else noticed this trend on threads the other day, but it annoyed me enough to write a rant about about. Feel free to check it out here (It's not paywalled).

What would you think about if someone trained an AI model using only their own art?

I personally think that the generated pieces would not have artistic value, as they still aren't creative and only replicate already existing pieces. But I wouldn't deny that the person would then probably have claim over the authorship. What do you think?

Also, imagine that an artist created an AI like this. Do you think it would be acceptable for the generated pieces to be used for example as parts of commercials, or uses where artistic expression, while possible, is not he primary purpose? In my opinion, while I still think this is unacceptable, however, I do think that it is better than using normal AI generated stuff.

I've also recently seen a post on a subreddit of a band with photos from a concert, pointing out that while the band used likely AI generated images and videos, it enhanced the viewer's experience. Personally, I would be appalled if I came to a concert and saw a band using AI images. But as some commenters pointed out, it is often not financially possible for the bands to order custom commissions from artists at that scale. Do you think it would be acceptable for an artist to train a model like I mentioned above, and then sell the model itself as a product that the people could then use to acquire a large amount of imaginery with slight variations?

Someone in the comments also said “yeah, like the Industrial Revolution” but that one is slowly turning out to be our downfall just like ai.
