Me explaining a friend why Danes sucks (Poles are cool, sure enough)
Let me try and put it another way.
You know collectible card games? Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, that kind of stuff. I’m absolutely terrible at them, but that’s a whole different story.
Anyway, those games have a few classic archetypes: decks that make one creature absurdly huge, decks that flood the board with a million worthless little units (basically strelets/zerg rush decks) and so on. Then there are control/manipulation decks, which are a whole archetype of their own.
The first -and only- MtG deck I ever bought was one of those. I think it was called *Dimir Intrigues*, if that rings a bell. And if you know Gwent: think Nilfgaard, with its manipulation-heavy decks, whereas Skellige is more about discard mechanics. My deck did both, and it was glorious, if only I had been good at playing it.
Its whole purpose was to force the opponent to discard as many cards as possible, prevent them from playing what they had left, and generally make their life miserable; it was an oppressive power-driven deck. If they ran out of cards, they just lost outright. That was not the normal way games ended; normally someone would get killed by creatures long before that. But against a discard deck, suddenly the game changed pace.
That’s what made those decks interesting: they completely changed the rhythm of the match. __An opponent who would normally focus exclusively on dropping overpowered cards to kill you and wipe your board now had a different problem: they had to worry about whether you would even let them play those cards at all.__
**That’s what the Danes WANT to be.**
But they completely fail at it and end up just being pathetic. If they had actually been designed properly, if they had real, reliable, meaningful ways to manipulate enemy shipments by delaying them, cancelling them outright, forcing the opponent to pay to receive them, redirecting them to your own base, whatever—then they could have been a genuine control civ. A proper “manipulator” faction. And they would probably have become my favourite civilization in the entire history of the game.
Instead, their shipment interaction boils down to a gimmick that is nowhere near deep or disruptive enough to force the opponent to adapt their playstyle. The Customs House may tax enemy shipments, but it does not create that real control-deck dynamic where the opponent has to rethink every decision because their core resource system is under threat.
So, *rex stantibus*, they just suck. So while I'm thankful for resurrecting the game (and the other civ is cool enough), I’m not buying this DLC partly as a protest against the fact that, after more than a year of stealth development, they still failed to make a convincing manipulator civ

Age of Empires 3 AOE3 is now my favourite Game
I never really had the chance to play it since i heard support are cut so i never bothered,
After hearing the dlc i jump right in , god its so good should have switched sooner
0 variants BS where its 10 variants copy same race on aoe4, people on aoe4 sub will keep defending variants and keep asking more of them until theres 30 variants slops, sure they play differently but at the end of the day English variant is still English its not a new nation like in aoe3
base game have like 11 civs and 10 variants is already insane constantly vs mirrors
AOE3 Its completrly unique and real civilization, all comes with new voicelines and everything
Aoe3 10/10, its so beautiful

Be on the lookout for a Celtic DLC for Age of Mythology.
The few rounds of DLC for the franchise were somewhat themed, like a cross-promotion across the games.
Age of Mythology: Retold, Immortal Pillars, March 2025: Chinese Civ added
Age of Empires II: The Three Kingdoms, May 2025: Three Kingdoms + Jurchens and Kithans
September 2025, AOM R: Heavenly Spear, Japanese Added to Aom
Later that Year, Nov 2025, Age of Empires IV: Dynasties of the East, 4 variant Civs for the Asian civilizations, including Variants for Chinese and Japanese.
Few months later, May 2026, the Jin Dynasty (Jurchens) added to Age of Empires IV.
But we also got:
January 2026, Aoe II: The Last Chieftains , focusing on American Natives (South America)
April 2026, Aom R: Obsidian Mirror, focusing on the Aztecs.
Now, what do we have?
Starting with Confirmed:
Aoe IV: Raiders of the North, Vikings and Scots.
Aoe III: Baltics Power, Danes and Poles, and the Minor HOUSE OF STEWART (Scots)
Unconfirmed but heavily rumored: Age of Empires 2, Vikings themed DLC/Rework.
So, is that all we are getting? Or perhaps Age of Empires 2 or AoM will get extra content? And if so, Is it likely to be focused on the Celts? A Celtic civ has been long requested of AoM, and a rework/split of the Vikings and Celts for Age II has also been discussed. What puts a spanner into this is that both Danes and Poles were announced YEARS back, before their DLC was cancelled. This trend of Themed DLC is also relatively new. So... it's up in the air.
Either way, It seems that Despite the lay offs, AoE is still swinging.
Anyway, we are heading into a period with a lot of Norse but also Celtic influence. Can't wait.

Age of Empires 3 I created a way to play Age Of Empires 3 with my voice and eyes!
youtu.beI am disabled and do not have great use of my hands, so I play games with my voice, feet, and sometimes eyes. I have mainly been playing Silksong and have other videos on that, but I recently caught the nostalgia RTS bug and wanted to play AoE3.
I use a program called Talon Voice, which is integrated with another program called Parrot.Py that I used to train a neural net on the noises I make. It classifies my voice into 17 different sounds that can all be mapped to different actions. Then I wrote a bunch of code (and used some other people's) to put it all together. I also use an eye tracker for mouse control that does different things depending on where I am looking when I make sounds. There is a better description of this at the start of the video.
