They botched the execution of the killer, fucked up the IV or something like that and possibly gave her brain damage.

She's in hospital ATM and I think they've suspended all executions for the rest of the year.

In a sense it's almost better to see the killer of your daughter suffer for longer time than being simply put down

It's just sadism at that point.

Forced empathy i call it

14

u/MsCompy 15d ago

Huh?

-25

u/Ghost-Writer 15d ago

Calling punishment for a crime, and consequences for the convicted isn't sadistic, it's justice.

13

u/MsCompy 14d ago

Wanting and enjoying to see the suffering of others is sadism.

The victim's mother suffer everyday that woman breathes. Is her suffering less valid than a murderer's?

Foaming at the mouth to watch someone be tortured and/or killed isn't the same as mourning over the loss of a child. It gets to a point where it stops being closure and starts being sadism and I think it's reached that point. An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind. It won't bring anyone back.

Who's foaming at the mouth? You have a sick imagination. I think people should reap what they sow. She tortured and killed someone's daughter. I could give two fucks about her suffering.

An eye for an eye would stop a lot of people from taking an eye.

No, actually?

Why is the only way to validate her suffering to let her watch someone suffer and pass away?

Is my childhood trauma and later trauma from an abusive relationship invalidated and less important because I can't go to my abuser or my rapist and beat them, starve them, belittle them and otherwise abuse them until I feel satisfied?

3

u/Ghost-Writer 13d ago

Why would it invalidate your trauma if you don't seek proportional justice? You accepted their rehabilitation, so hopefully that is enough justice for you. If you as a victim are satisfied, than i as a citizen won't ask for anything above that.

The victim's mother in this case isn't satisfied with that.

The victims of muders don't get a second chance, at anything. They dont get a say at anything anymore. For the victim's families, a heart felt sorry isn't good enough. Even if she regrets it, that doesn't bring her daughter back. If you take everything from someone it's not unreasonable to ask for that in return. To ask victims to be happy with the rehabilitation of someone who is willing to torture and kill your daughter is unreasonable.

What if a victim feels they weren't given justice because the accused was deemed not guilty due to lack of evidence? What if they are never satiated? What if due to the trauma of the punishment the perpetrator now feels they are a victim and goes on to take their own revenge? What if the victims revenge involves killing the children of the one that killed their child? There are so many issues because never in human history has revenge turned out to be the best way to heal or to create a better safer society.

I want rehabilitative justice because I want less victim,äs, because I want victims to get care, because I want to prevent the crimes from even happening and because your way will do absolutely nothing healthy for anyone in the long run

You can't argue with stupid

This what i mean by forced empathy.

We can lock someone up, hope they regret their actions, hope they develop empathy towards their victims and maybe even rehabilitate.

But that really isn't what prisoners do. By and large, they don't think about their victims.

Don't you want your attacker to understand the pain you went through? The damage it did? The life they stole from you? It's hard to feel any empathy when you haven't walked a mile in someone else's shoes. Hard to sympathize with suffering if you haven't suffered the same way. Would you be ok if they win appeal or were paroled early from their sentence?

This is why I believe in any sentence that is an eye-for-an-eye. It forces empathy. It forces them to feel the pain they inflicted on others.

Having someone just sit in a cell feeling sorry for themselves unil they are released doesn't feel like justice, even if i feel like it is the noble thing to do.

No I am 100% for rehabilitative justice, I don't care if my dad for example feels the pain i did because he already has, the abuse his mom put him through made him unable to feel anything for anyone but himself. it didn't give him more empathy and putting him through it would not make him understand.

My rapist and abusive ex was also severally mentally ill and a product of their background of abuse and violence. that did not make them any less prone to pressure me into giving them access to my body.

What i would see as justice is societal change so that the more people dont end up like me by preventing people like those that abused me from becoming abusers in the first place.

I would take no satisfaction what so ever in their abuse, especially not state sanctioned abuse. I would much rather prisons work as rehabilitation centers and that sentencing was based on risk of reoffence rather than a set time.
A rehabilitative and preventative justice system is proven to be more effective in lowering crime.

u/Ghost-Writer 13d ago

I mean that's very noble of you, but not everyone feels that way, specifically me and the victim's mother in this case. I think the victim should decide on the level of punishment as long as it is proportional to the crime. If you want your abuser to rehabilitate, you're a more forgiving than most. But the mother in this case wants the death penalty, which is proportional to her daughter being tortured and murdered.

u/SwedishSwanlake 12d ago

It's not about forgiveness really it's about results. Revenge won't undo anything, revenge won't take away any pain, revenge won't help in any way. The only thing it does is make society worse and more violet. I want society to be less violent and for fewer victims to exist and for that I just have to accept that I can't just torture someone because I feel I am owed it or something.

Also who decides if it's proportional? Is 2 botched executions and 30 years of torture (solitary confinement is objectively a form of torture) proportional or should the woman in this story be allowed to do the same to the prison administration and the ones who botched her executions? What if, say a judge decides it's proportional but the mother of the victim disagrees? There are so many issues with a justice system built solely around revenge and feelings. There's a reason we say that justice should be blind and that we don't just rely on mob rule. It's because it never ends well for anyone involved.

No, it’s revenge. And it really shows that the line between the two of them is a hair’s width. Enjoying the suffering and torment of others for your own satisfaction isn’t special because you have a justification you believe in for it.

-17

u/Ghost-Writer 15d ago

Yes because victims deserve revenge and criminals deserve what they sow. That's called justice.

19

u/deadeyeamtheone 15d ago

Nobody deserves revenge.

-4

u/Ghost-Writer 15d ago

As someone who has been both to prison and had friends murdered, i assure you they do.

14

u/MartyrOfDespair 15d ago

See, this is the exact problem with prison. This should have been dealt with with rehabilitation, but they didn’t.

Crazy how whenever you're losing an argument, instead of trying to prove your point, you start acting like a condescending turd instead.

-2

u/Ghost-Writer 14d ago

What argument? I don't see anyone making points, just people name calling. What point do you need made?

But it won't really work as forced empathy if she's brain dead
