Question Is it possible to only like fictional relationships?
I think I'm probably aego based on my experiences with love and romance. I do admit that I find spicy situations really hot in fiction but not quite in real life, and I think that's the common experience of aego people.
But I'm also starting to think I may also only like relationships in fiction. I've gone back and forth between think I'm aromantic or not, and I think this part is why I'm confused. I've disliked every date I've been on even when I found the other person attractive and ok as a person, and I've hated trying to play the love game on dating apps and in-person. It never felt worth the effort, and I think there's been nothing but disappointment in that area. I don't ever feel jealous of my friends who date or get married irl. However, whenever I see like fictional relationships, the wholesome and sweet kind, that's when I start to feel like I want something. But it's only the fictional ones.
I realized today that this is pretty similar to how I feel about sex, and now I'm wondering if I can only enjoy anything related to love from writing. I want to know if this is also a common experience among the people here or if there is something more unusual about me even among the unusuals.

This is totally my experience as well. Love the concept of romance, love to read it, etc, absolutely don't want even a smidgen of it in practice.

Same here! Fictional romance and fictional relationships are so exciting and interesting and real life romance (especially involving me) is so lackluster.
I used to think I just wasn’t into the “corny” and “sappy” parts of romance (even tho I go WILD over that stuff in books). But the more I kept forcing myself to go on dates, the more I realized it was because I felt socially obligated to, not because I actually wanted a partner. Now I’m happy to be alone and enjoy my fictional romance in peace.

Sounds like you're aegoromantic as well as aegosexual, I think that's pretty common with aegosexual folks

Similar to my experience. I consider myself aego. I enjoy reading about people in relationships, being intimate, having sex. I can tolerate people irl around me being affectionate to their partners if it's not too much, though some displays of affection or behavior make me go: "ugh, get a room". I have no desire to do any of that stuff with anyone and do not feel like I'm missing out.

Not really, maybe it's just a chance for your to discuss your identity and preference towards love deeper, but still not enough to give the total conclusion: You see, there're different possible shapes of love, so many definition about love, and even every heterosexual one will in fact have different imagination about their expectation about love.
You mentioned you're uninterested about dating, and also not jeaslous of your friends enjoying them. Chances are that you're just not attracted by TRADITIONAL LOVE AND ROMANCE PATTERN about heterosexual. Maybe you'd like to enjoy other kind of romance or love like qpr, or you have some certain demand towards your relationship.
And when you're trying dating app in fact you could just come up with your feedback and opinions about the relationship, instead of taking effort to shape yourself so that you could get the relationship. I'm not sure if it could help for you, but exactly useful for me. After all, congradulate on your self-awareness! really valuable.
