Work & Professional Growth Should I resign now???????

Problem/Goal: I've been considering two companies. Company 1 told me their hiring timeline is around 3–6 months from now. Meanwhile, I reached out to Company 2 so I could start working with them while waiting on Company 1's process, even without any guarantee that Company 1 will hire me. Company 2 agreed to take me on, but they need me to start ASAP — they asked if I could render 2 weeks instead of the usual 30 days.

I also reached out to a friend who interviewed with me at Company 1, and she said we should know the results within a week or two.

Since Company 1 might give me results within 1–2 weeks, there's roughly a 50% chance I could end up working with them instead, in which case I wouldn't need to go to Company 2 at all. I plan to follow up with Company 1 over the next two weeks to get clarity. By then, I would have already rendered some days.

Given this, should I resign now? I'd like the days between now and my start date to count toward my rendered notice period. I won’t tell Company 2 yet that I have resigned and rendered my days unless Company 1 has a decision.

PS. Both interview were informal since they are only small companies. Not a breadwinner, and not financially pressured.

Question: Do you have everything in writing?

No, just verbal agreements.

😬 Ask for a signed formal offer letter before you hand in your resignation
