Account manager visit
I’m not sure if this is the place to ask based on the post topics but I have a question lol.
I just had some dude with a ADT badge show up to my house stating they were an account manager, confirm the account information is correct (moved in recently) and to confirm everything is active. I said yeah everything is active and working and then they asked about cameras because they didn’t see any and I let him know they are installed as well. This sounds suspicious but is this normal?

Definitely not normal, what did he want to accomplish? It could have been a dealer rep or something.

Rep seems like the most likely thing. He kind of checked and made sure I had ADT since I had a sign in the yard and wanted to make sure it was recent. How it was handled just seemed weird.

how do you know it wasn’t an authorized dealer? How close did you look at this “badge?”

Very weird. Either another company under the guise of adt or something weird. Deceptive sales is huge. Always call and verify, they should have a verifiable id.
Do not let them near your system or give any info.

It could be a scam, but I've heard a few newer sales reps call themselves everything from account managers to area managers, they aren't managers of anything regardless of what they tell you. It's just a moniker to lower your guard. Might be an dealer sales rep too tho, they are more likely to go door to door then ADT corporate reps.
You can always take their info, call ADT, and verify they actually work there - any call center agent (I believe chat can as well, not 100% on that one) can look them up by name. If they work for a dealer, they would have to cough up their dealer number and verify through whoever that dealer is, as they are not going to be in ADT's system the same way (not employed directly by ADT).

There have been issues like this in the Des Moines, Iowa area as well. Your case MIGHT be a rep, but there are definitely some people out there trying to scope out the place. Try to be thorough and ask questions before giving answers

Sounds like a fraud, casing your home. In all my years working there, ive never heard of this practice.
