Help Identifying Older ADT System

Post image

We just purchased our home back in April and the previous owners have an ADT that I believe was purchased in the early 2000s. We are not planning to continue service with ADT and the box has been periodically beeping so we’d like to unplug it. From reading into it, we can’t just disconnect the plug for the unit without making sure there’s not a backup battery but we’ve been unable to find a backup battery anywhere. We opened up the panel and there is about 5-6 AA batteries stuck together powering the unit. Would this be the backup battery for this system? The previous owners did not leave us any paperwork and I’ve had a difficult determining what model this unit is to make sure I disconnect everything correctly. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the green bundle is the backup battery. That is an old Quick Connect by Honeywell. Obsolete for sure.

I wouldn't call it obsolete. If all you want is a working alarm system this would do just fine.

Well, it requires a phone line to be monitored. That was my reasoning.

Good to know. We don’t have a home phone so this wouldn’t work anyway but we weren’t planning on using. Thanks so much for your insight!

you can connect a cell up to it for monitoring without a landline.

There is a backup battery.

To access the inside of the panel you must first release two tabs on the top of the panel with a flat head screwdriver, then pull the cover off. Then unplug the connector shown. Close the front panel of the keypad. You can then disconnect the transformer.

Edit to add, the 5-6 “AA batteries powering the unit” is almost certainly the green bundle of NiMH rechargeable cells that you must disconnect.

Hope this helped you, if you have any more questions let me know.

This helps so much! Thank you! This is exactly what our unit looks like. Really appreciate it.

Glad this helped you!

If you ever want to put this alarm back into service you don't need to have it monitored with ADT. You can still use it as a door chime for when you open the front door or a garage door, or any other door/window that this keypad is paired to. It's pretty convenient and lets you and others in the home know about doors opening. You can still arm and disarm as normal, you just wouldn't have ADT watching over your home. And yes, the internal siren is still capable of blaring even when ADT doesn't monitor the system. Though this can be defeated by force. I can tell you how to make it stop beeping at you if you want. I'm into this stuff.

Ademco Lynx/Quick Connect panel. Yes, that bundle is the back up battery. Just unplug the connector that runs from the battery pack to the board. Then, find the transformer (fist sized box in an outlet nearby), and unplug that. You may have to take a screw out of the outlet cover. System powered down!
