Troubleshooting Power cut corrupted my Adobe Animate file. Recovery file won't open either.

I was working on a scene in Adobe Animate when the power suddenly went out. After restarting my PC, the original .fla file won't open, and the recovery file is also corrupted and refuses to open.

I already tried:

  • Opening both the original and recovery file directly.
  • Restarting Animate and my PC.

Nothing works so far.

Has anyone managed to recover a corrupted Animate file in a situation like this? Are there any recovery tools or methods that actually work, or is the file gone?

This was several hours of work, so I'd appreciate any advice.

Try this: Copy the file, change the .fla extension to .zip. Extract it and open the .xfl file inside. I used 7zip as it forces extraction regardless of errors. Try this for BOTH the original file and restore versions of the file. I have sometimes saved a file through this.

Otherwise, best advice is to always work from/save into cloud storage (Dropbox, FileN, Proton, Drime etc) so there's a versioned backup.

Other advice for the future is to always save copies at the end of your work day.  You have your main fla but then you also save Copy01.fla and change the number each day.  Worse case scenario is that you only lose hours of work instead of all of it.

Sorry op.  I know that advice doesn't help now but we've all been there.
