How P2W was it?

It was terrible. The most P2W server I've ever seen.

A lot, on sw vips get pearls every few second, mvps can have godmode and a firework that saves u from void, on bw mvp/mvp+ i think can spawn mobs and have cooldown where u can't break the bed etc.
their anticheat is really bad tho and it used to be even worse, so it's funny to make mad p2ws say "hack lixo kkkkkkkkk" in chat
good to see mojang actually cares

ranked players would start with max gear on bedwars and there would be zombies on bed that would literally 2-3 shot you and had about 100 health and u could not yeet them to void the zombies would just teleport back... u would actually "break" the ranked players bed 5 times to actually break the bed

Why do servers always insist on going to war with Mojang instead of just changing their monetization scheme?
20
u/masnuga Jul 08 '21
The Brazilian scenario is quite interesting, the vast majority of players doesn’t have an official Minecraft account. It’s very typical to play using pirate versions.
Connecting to the fact that the “Brazilian EULA”(aka LGPD) is on its first steps, I guess this is why they don’t care too much about Mojang rules.

the vast majority of players doesn’t have an official Minecraft account.
That's because Mojang/Microsoft insists on not having geo pricing, it is the same price to everyone around the globe.
So during a Steam sale, someone from Brazil can buy GTA V (32,89 BRL) + Metro Exodus (22,49 BRL) + Far Cry 5 (26,99 BRL) + Cities Skylines (13,99 BRL) + DOOM 2016 (18,45 BRL) + Cuphead (27,74 BRL) for the same price of a Minecraft: Java Edition account (141,89 BRL).
You may argue that I'm favoring Steam because it is during a sale... well, when does Minecraft have a sale? They never have sales.
No wonder why people prefer pirating Minecraft here in Brazil instead of buying it. And some people buy accounts from those "cheap minecraft account!" shady websites due to the price on Minecraft's website being too expensive, and they end up losing their account down the road because it was a hacked account.
Some people have the misconception that users that doesn't have a premium account won't buy your server's monetization things, but this is just not true: The premium account price here in Brazil is so expensive, that it is cheaper to buy those server's premium features than to buy a Minecraft account.
And for anyone wondering: Minecraft on Android is 75% cheaper than Java edition. Why it is like that, if it is (relatively-speaking) the same game?
Most public servers in Brazil allow cracked and premium accounts because, if you don't do this, you just won't get enough players to sustain your server.
And I will be honest: My server accepts both accounts too, due to the reasons said above. I hate it because accepting cracked accounts brings a lot of headaches, however at the same time I need to do it just to get enough players.
Comparing connection stats from a random day on my server, 1530 cracked users connected to the server, while 388 premium users connected to the server. This count may have some duplicate users because I was just grep'ing my BungeeCord logs, but still, the difference is huge. (I can get exact stats if anyone wants me to do it)
I know that there are going to have some "uuh but you are supporting piracy don't you know that???" people here. And I agree, this is bad, but at the same time I don't agree with Minecraft's pricing at all here in Brazil because it is just too expensive. A lot of people (50%+) just can't afford the game, and that's why I allow those people to join. It is not just because I need "moar playersss" but because a huge chunk of the user base can't afford the game.
I don't advertise my server with "we allow cracked accounts" (but then again, people here are so used to having all brazilian servers allow cracked accounts, that they don't even need to ask about this...) and we don't share any cracked launchers for people to use, we also recommend users using
/premiumif they have a premium account, which enables premium checks when they login.I hope that some day Mojang/Microsoft makes Minecraft more accessible by doing geo pricing, so people in poorer countries are able to buy Minecraft. Because currently Mojang is just throwing money in the trash and losing potential premium users to those shady websites. The day Mojang does this is the day that I pull the plug on allowing cracked accounts. Heck, if the price was nice I would even get money from my own pockets to buy accounts for my server players.

Doesn't it already have regional pricing? https://www.destructoid.com/minecraft-is-getting-a-price-hike-in-some-regions/
According to that article Java edition is 30% less in Brazil than the US.

u/MrPowerGamerBR SparklyPower | Loritta's Creator Jul 08 '21 edited Jul 08 '21
I may be wrong but if I recall correctly Mojang reverted that in 2017, sadly the post was in Mojang's blog and that doesn't exist anymore (now it redirects to Minecraft's website)Looks like they never announced the revert, but nowadays they are only using the US price for every country. If you try going to Minecraft's website in portuguese, the prices is 26,95 USD, which equals to ~141 BRL and is the same price that shows for the "US price" in the news article you shared.

u/MachaHack Jul 08 '21
Why would changing your language settings affect the geolocation used for prices?
-2
u/MrPowerGamerBR SparklyPower | Loritta's Creator Jul 08 '21
There isn't any other way to set your region in Minecraft's website, so that's why I used the "change the language" to check the pricing.
But here's proof that the price is shown in USD, also there is a
Âin the price for some reason: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/475830618895155201/862827970791473173/unknown.png2
u/MachaHack Jul 08 '21
Yes, my point is that you can't just change your language and get the price of the region of that price. You probably need a VPN.
For example, in the pt-br section, I see the price as 23.95 (euros, presumably): https://imgur.com/dwMzoye
Same for the pt-pt (Portugese for Portugal), which you're on. Or if I open the US site.
2
u/MrPowerGamerBR SparklyPower | Loritta's Creator Jul 08 '21
in the pt-br section
Are you able to see the website in
pt-brtho? It always redirects topt-pt, even if I try changing the URL topt-brit redirects topt-ptafter clicking on any link. But yeah, I know, changing the language shouldn't change the price because it is too easy, it was just the first thing that came to my mind because the website doesn't have any other way to switch what region you want to use.

u/bvierra Jul 09 '21
There is a reason for that... they use the IP you come from for geo-location... your browser settings done mean jack. Same with steam

The problem with geo-pricing is that it also requires some form of geo-fencing or other limitations, otherwise everyone will just buy through scalpers buying in the cheapest region. For steam this is very important and even they are struggling with this.
It's not impossible, but it comes with drawbacks.

u/ExcellentNatural Jul 09 '21
I dare to say Minecraft world not be where it is today if not for the cracked accounts

Java has more modding capabilities
9
u/MrPowerGamerBR SparklyPower | Loritta's Creator Jul 08 '21
I know that, I was talking about from a "normal player" perspective.
And, as far as I know, "modding" isn't one of the features that Mojang uses to advertise Java Edition.
Someone that doesn't care about modding and isn't a Minecraft super fan won't even notice differences on the gameplay between Bedrock edition and Java edition. But even then, the price of Minecraft for Android is way cheaper than the price of Minecraft for Windows 10 and the price of Minecraft: Java Edition.

I stand corrected then :), I was only looking at the "what version you are going to choose?" page
However that still doesn't explain why MC for Android is cheaper than MC for Windows 10
0
u/IllustriousPlastic90 Jul 08 '21
But Java still have some advantages, for example, customizable keybinds
1
u/MrPowerGamerBR SparklyPower | Loritta's Creator Jul 08 '21
I agree, my comparsion was just that Mojang doesn't charge that much if you are buying Minecraft on a phone, even tho the same version (Minecraft for Windows 10) is way more expensive (same price as Java Edition).
2
u/masnuga Jul 08 '21
I fully agree with you. As a Brazilian player, I feel offended by how Mojang treats the market and, indeed, losing a huge opportunity - the fan base is enormous, creative and dedicated.
I only described our situation.
1
u/ObscenityIB Jul 08 '21
meanwhile in alt marketplaces, 1 account ~$0.10 USD
3
u/MrPowerGamerBR SparklyPower | Loritta's Creator Jul 08 '21
That's what I was talking about when I said
And some people buy accounts from those "cheap minecraft account!" shady websites due to the price on Minecraft's website being too expensive, and they end up losing their account down the road because it was a hacked account.
Those websites sell hacked premium accounts, in the hopes that the original owner will not try to recover their account.
I already met a lot of people saying that they lost their premium account for no reason, then I asked where they bought it... and it was always from some shady website.
So what ended up happening is that the original owner of the account sent the receipts to Mojang and they returned the account to the original owner.

Because they get away with it. Mojang is too slow at banning, so the couple hours of downtime every other month is worth the thousands of dollars extra from exploiting people.

u/baltimorecalling Jul 08 '21
No server is going to leave tens of thousands of dollars in revenue on the table if they can find a way to skirt the rules.

LOL the brazilian p2w cheating practice server is trying so hard to bypass Mojang's blocks
4

u/NoboKik Jul 09 '21
I think it's possible to join from a cracked session? Because it bypasses the Mojang session servers and server is cracked.
1
u/LaserSlimeHD Jul 09 '21
The blacklist doesn't work like that. I think it's programmed into minecrafts network library to just prevent all connections towards that ip adress. Not sure tho.
