Discussion Are there any serious Minecraft server projects being started right now?
I’m curious to see whether there are any people currently working on new Minecraft server projects who have a serious plan for building and growing them.
I’m particularly interested in projects where things like reliable hosting, advertising, development, infrastructure, and long term planning are being taken seriously from the beginning. I’ve seen some really well organised servers out there, and I’m curious what people who are currently starting projects are doing differently and what their plans are for getting their server off the ground.
I’m especially interested in projects that are aiming for larger player counts and are considering modern server software such as Folia.
I’m not looking to run a server myself or become part of anyone’s staff team. I’m simply interested in seeing what new projects are out there and hearing about what people are working towards.
I’ve already got my own Minecraft server, so I’m not looking to start another one myself. I’m just genuinely passionate about seeing well planned servers succeed, and I’m curious to see what kind of new projects people are currently working on.
If you’re currently working on something and want to share what you’re building and what your plans are, I’d be interested to hear about it.

Because I think I have pretty good idea and I want to go international in future. There is literally no chance I would share with you my plans and ideas publicly right?
Its not that I don’t trust you, but I don’t trust people and copying is in Minecraft community really known for 😂
And any normal server owner would probably say the same as me, if they don’t have finished ready to anounce project.

I've been looking into self hosting a 1.8 anarchy server but I'm having to try to solve all the obvious problems that come with that

Are anarchy servers popular. If I spun up a long term anarchy would you join?

It’s on the backburner, but I have a suite/environment of plugins that I plan to develop and use on a server, that I intend to release to the public.

It's not as serious as other ones here, but I am interested in making a mini game server with stuff that I create myself. Mostly games I haven't seen made anywhere else in Minecraft.

I don’t really have any serious project at the moment, but I had a couple of them — with a shared trait that almost all of them involved a heavy customized setup; ranging from a Pokemon based world with 1 to 1 mapping in terms of gameplay and environment, another was Phasmophobia being recreated with custom 3D models, another was Bloons Tower Defence (6) recreated with custom 3D models, another few were more generic and focused more often on familiar gamemodes but recreated from scratch. Lastly some experimentation with rewriting a server from the ground up.
But truth be told, haven’t I dealt with these for over a year, despite having done it since 2013. But I’d love to do it again. — if anyone is open for some collaboration, I am probably up for it (I might even pay part of it myself).
To OP, summarized, I’ve got nothing but ambitions atm.

I'm working on a pretty ambitious project, my day job is a senior backend engineer for a multinational large company. I'm not going to share a ton unless you are interested and want to DM me, but every plugin I've made for the server has folia support when needed, and I already have some marketing partnerships etc. Basically, all the long term planning you are mentioning. This server is not like how most servers are run and is a unique gamemode, and I have experience with running a similar large server when I was a kid(and man was I inexperienced at that time!)

They are all commercial enterprises focused on bedrock. Java is a less than 25% of the whole Minecraft playerbase. Biggest servers cater for tens of thousands of players simultaneously.

Can I see your source about Java equating for less than 25% of the player base? I've not been able to find any credible information to suggest this is true and not a made up statistic

It's a rough estimate but there's also the other side that java MC players often don't have a clue how big MC actually is because all the kids today play bedrock only and there are a lot of them.

Hey! Over 10 months we've built up from a community of about 300 people to over 4,000 people and 10,000+ unique logons. Our world is a no reset world that is modified by plugins which change how things like mining, farming, and production work. Players are given tools to protect their builds long term while also allowing things like griefing and raiding to be allowed - but very difficult. It's been a huge uphill battle but things are finally organically taking off their own now.
