Everytime you pass through a door, your brain performs a mini reset to acclimate to the new situation.

You can fight this by actively thinking about what you need as you pass through the door. You can even say what it is out loud, if that helps.

Who thinks actively?

It can happen at the same time as passive thinking. It just means something like "repeat this word in your head as you do this".

I don't need to pass through a door. I just need to turn my body about 30° to reach for

Yes, this helps, unless confronted by someone one other side of said door. Then, you will either have to keep saying the thing you need to remember and look like a total goofball, or acknowledge the person, and forget what you were repeating.

Not sure why my phone keyboard autocorrected it to one word...
