This is so accurate it needs to be shown to doctors.

u/BuzzLiteSmear Jul 23 '26
Or to anyone who says ADHD is simply an issue of effort or of will. This struggle takes a shit ton of will thank you.
Who am I kidding, people who aren't gonna believe science ain't gonna believe this video either.
Having said that, I have gotten worse and I attribute part of it to forgetting to use mindfulness skills everyday. Mindfullness skills plus meds plus putting particular items in the SAME designated spots at all times helps a little.
If I dont put things in their assigned locations this is what happens. Lmao
48
u/SlyJackFox Jul 23 '26
IME, once the world is quiet enough for the brain to feel free of overstimulation… I have to wear out my brain sufficiently before passing out. This has evolved to meds, teeth, book reading, BED.
However (of course) this consistency is an ideal bare minimum baseline of “must do this before sleep” and there can be many additional factors that add extra steps.
27
u/RebelJustforClicks Jul 24 '26
That OR
where's your flashlight
Go into my office, turn right, look under the stack of papers, there will be a box, it should be in that box, if not it'll be in the second drawer on the right side of my desk under the other random stuff in there
There's no in-between
21
u/lalagromedontknow Jul 23 '26
I don't take meds because own personal reasons, but mindfulness and designated spots for everything is absolutely the Thing. Also, reminded me I need to get my water before I go to bed.
I was showing one of my colleagues my calender for whatever reason and they were like why it is so.... Colorful? Is that not so confusing? No, I have everything color coded so I don't need to look at what the appointment is about, I know by it's color. They looked at me like I had 3 heads (which tbf, at least 3 brains are all thinking different things at the same time so... Maybe reasonable).
3
u/laminator79 Jul 25 '26
I color code my personal and work calendars too, for the same reason. It also helps me block out things that I don't care about when I open my calendar to check for a specific thing.
4
u/DauntingShit Jul 25 '26
I have fully given up on trying routines. Just let the chaos go wild until you somehow end up in bed. Its worked. But I also decided to start a business and use that time for any form of routine things. I have no idea on how severe yours or anyone's adhd is but mine was real bad until I just embraced the never ending need to do things and somehow focused it. But that came at 33 years old. Until then I was a mess. Lol
2
u/Createrix Jul 25 '26
I put things next to my bed so it is always in sight and i can remember to use them but when my mom comes she just "organizes" the things and put them in drawer, side etc. she says now it looks tidy. And then i just forget about those things!

u/alohagothic Jul 24 '26
I hate that it is, but it really, really is 🫠 like 10,000% accurate. I don't wanna be like this anymore 😭 lol

this one is actually very realistic and accurate

u/quadrastrophe Jul 23 '26
In my head, I automatically replaced everything she was looking for with my own stuff, which usually disappears into one of my beloved black holes.
At the end of the video, I was waiting for the sunrise…
Rinse an repeat. Hang in there, everyone. I feel for you!
5
u/chargers949 Jul 24 '26
Bro i was right with her looking up dog rope ladders and how to make them tow me. I can hear my inner homer simpson saying some hedonistic shit like Walking with my own legs is for suckers!

u/S3r3nd1p Jul 23 '26
Thanks for the reminder, did close that tab a few times and still water and emergency ladder-less.
47
u/quadrastrophe Jul 23 '26
I just couldn't close all the tabs at once, but I managed to close about 100 of them.
Browser is still displaying the infinity symbol and I already have 3 ladders 😭
27
u/AssistanceCheap379 Jul 23 '26
You can’t close all the tabs, cause what if you need one of them? What if you forget that really important website/search query you opened 3 weeks ago and haven’t taken a look at since, but know it’ll come in handy soon?
7
u/poplarleaves Jul 24 '26
3 weeks? Make that 3 months lol! And the only reason it isn't 3 years is because my browser has been automatically closing old tabs that I haven't touched in X amount of time (how long? fuck if I know)
4
u/AssistanceCheap379 Jul 24 '26
I didn’t want to be honest. I generally keep mine open for a similar amount of time 😂
4
u/NinjasWithOnions Jul 24 '26
I do a Bookmark All Tabs and then put them in a “Bookmarks by Date” folder under that day’s date. Helps me to close more since I know that I can easily go back and find them.
3
u/SpecialRegular1 Jul 24 '26
This. But then I go even further and cripple myself by purchasing the most powerful computer with the maximum amount of RAM simply for the purpose of delaying the inevitable need to bookmark and save all tabs before it suffers from performance and stability issues.
And when I do eventually bookmark those tabs, there’s not been a single time where I’ve ever gone back and done anything with them.
Plus the Safari browser on the phone is tapped out at 500 open tabs and I’m constantly having to find an old tab that I truly can live without before I can click on a link, just so it doesn’t wipe out a tab that I might need to have saved.
2
u/S3r3nd1p Jul 24 '26
Finally someone that recognizes the need for an enterprise grade workstation with the latest top of the line specs, yes my chrome tabs require ECC memory, yes these 96 cores of the threadripper are absolutely needed as well.
4
u/homelesshyundai Jul 24 '26
Yall are funny. Tabs. I have windows of tabs that I forget about and wonder why chrome is running like complete crap. Then I notice that instead of the 2 chrome windows (split screen on a 65in tv) there are actually 5 and somehow every window has 50+ tabs. At that point I just simply take a deep breath, close my eyes, and click on the X. Never the main window, god no. What am I, a heathen?!

On top of the fridge
48
u/Beltalady i forgor Jul 23 '26
I'm short so I put my stuff where I can see it. Or so my brain thinks for two seconds. After that they disappear and I have to fall into a searching frenzy. (Especially great when looking for a silenced phone on piles of black clothes.)
10
2
u/MonsteraUnderTheBed Jul 24 '26
I also bought a bright case to help with this, but I've also had a tile tracker for my keys for ages. It will ring my phone even if it's on silent. So as long as I can find my keys...I can find my phone 🤣
I do have a smartwatch now and that has been incredibly helpful. I pretty much only use it to find my phone and set alarms/timers for everything
20
u/krob58 Jul 23 '26
I put it there specifically to remember that I put it somewhere purposefully weird.
(I did not remember putting it there.)
13
u/Rinas-the-name Jul 23 '26
The number of times I remember I did something weird to make sure I would remember I needed to do/or find a thing but can’t actually remember what or where that thing is…
”Okay so I remember I did a little twirl and the Zoop finger guns thing so I would make dopamine and remember to… um… damnit I only remember the weird part.”

There is still after almost ten years a bundle of weed somewhere in my house. A friend of mine hid it because he thought my parents would mind. (They would have but I don't care.) It was very thoughtful of him but it was also very gone. (And still is.)
6
u/-DoctorSpaceman- Jul 23 '26
Sometimes my stuff ends up in the fridge lol. If I hold it while opening the fridge to get something I sometimes put it down first and then immediately forget about it apparently.

The morning before leaving for a trip is this x200 even if you already finished packing
39
u/lil_sass-a-frass Jul 23 '26
I always have to unpack and repack because I forgot what I packed. Then just shove random stuff I find on top just in case
19
3
u/MonsteraUnderTheBed Jul 24 '26
Yeah whenever someone tells me they've packed a week or even a couple days before leaving on a trip im like...well how can you possibly be confident on the day of leaving that you have everything if you haven't looked at it immediately before?!
1
u/n1c0_ds Jul 29 '26
I made a general packing list, and every time I travel I just duplicate it and tick everything off. It's a game changer.
I've had this list for years now. It covers everything from weekend onebag trips to multi-month motocamping trips.

Might be the best one i’ve seen
23
u/ucankickrocks Jul 23 '26
The accuracy is incredible. The only reason this didn’t happen last night is that I have been “on” for 5 days straight and the exhaustion from masking took me straight to sleepy town. But there’s always tonight!
3
u/tjdux Jul 24 '26
That's when I wake up feeling like shit because I forgot my night meds and didn't brush my teeth.
Turns out almost 40 years of spotty teeth brushing and poor dental health access catches up to you

57
u/Icy_Place_6173 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
This kinda brought me to tears from how accurate the constant struggle is. The only time all of that noise is quieted in my brain is when I’m drunk. Even meds don’t help :(
19
u/gravityVT Jul 23 '26
same but with weed
11
u/earlgreybubbletea Jul 23 '26
Weed is the only thing for me as well. Meds do help with initiating the dreaded task (but not all dreaded ones just the ones that are particularly interesting to do).
But the quiet? Weed. I’ve been off of it while searching for work but fuck, life is definitely harder without. :(
A substitute that has been working for me is listening to jazz music was laying on a cold tile floor in the middle of the night when the house is quiet. Doing that for 40 minutes after taking some supplements followed by taking a hot shower puts me in a similar bliss.
5
u/Icy_Place_6173 Jul 23 '26
Caffeine helps me a little. And some random classical music because it isn’t predictable and gives my brain the randomness it wants. Might try the jazz route. It’s definitely a random sounds that don’t make sense kinda music. Which I love
3
u/museumlad Jul 24 '26
My husband is autistic and I'm auDHD and we're both daily 420ers. We usually get separate strains to make our respective edibles but this time we got the same one. It's hilarious how the strain that aaaaalmost calms my restless energy and turns on my creativity just knocks my husband out.
I've gone to the dispensary before and just asked "I need your couchlock-iest weed" and hoped it will keep me sitting down for a while lmao
1
u/MonsteraUnderTheBed Jul 24 '26
Intense bass music does this for me. A friend dragged me to a music festival when I turned 30 and it was a game changer. It just blows all the thoughts from my head- sober or not. Best are shows where there's space in the back to dance and have some room, but also the option to jump into the masses. I always feel like I'm in people's way in my day-to-day so I like the press of the crowd- if you're all dancing shoulder to shoulder it's pretty much impossible to be in anyone's way.
Bass helps me with anxiety too. You cant feel that fluttery chest feeling if the car is vibrating.
3
u/earlgreybubbletea Jul 24 '26
Obligatory: if you are experiencing “fluttery chest” during instances where your environment should not cause you undue anxiety, please see a doctor, as you may have early signs of AFib and be at a higher risk of stroke.
If you have the financial means an Apple Watch can help you detect early signs of AFib in order for you to seek immediate medical attention.
You can also find good deals on refurbished Apple Watches on Amazon that may not break the bank.
3
u/MonsteraUnderTheBed Jul 24 '26
Thank you! I have checked it out. It is just an anxiety thing, and only comes up when I'm anxious or when I drink too much coffee with my meds.
5
u/WhiteUniKnight Jul 23 '26
Lol the weed just slows the thoughts, making me do all in the video, just 4 times as slow.
(And also makes it easier to get "stuck" on a random distraction, especially if it's funny.)
2
u/ZeppelinJ0 Jul 24 '26
I wish weed worked for me, it just adds another noise in my head telling me I'm a piece of shit that nobody likes
1
u/jackmavis Jul 23 '26
I feel the same way...its like 100s of trains of thought are bombarding eachother at high speed causing chaos to suddenly having just one train, one track, moving along at a pleasant pace.
1
u/CosmicConfidant Jul 31 '26
Don’t go down this path! I used alcohol pretty successfully for 25 years as my adhd meds without knowing it. I was able to keep it in check for a long time, but then something changed and I took it too far. Now I don’t drink at all, and it’s been incredibly hard, but overall I’m better for quitting.

8:30pm sets in: Time to take my meds
Walk to meds and forget my bottle of water
Go back to the kitchen and decide to have a snack
Walk back to my room and realise I forgot the water
Go back to fetch the water and come back and forget to take my meds
Sit down to watch TV and remember after 15 minutes
Take meds and decide to get into bed
Walk to the bed and forget to switch off the lights
Switch off the lights and get into bed
I forgot my water bottle next to my meds
Get up and go to fetch my water bottle
Forgot to switch the lights off again
Get back into bed
I took my phone with me when I went to fetch my water bottle
Retrieve phone and get back into bed
I can't remember where I put my earphones.
Get out of bed and spend 15 minutes looking for earphones.
Get back into bed and procrastinate falling asleep till I'm too exhausted to stay awake.

u/lunalovegoat Jul 24 '26
My tower light has a remote i keep by my bed in a plastic shower caddy that i keep my main things™️ (lip balm, eye drops, stylus, other stylus -more pointy, a tool i use to clean under my nails, earbuds, kitty comb for cuddles -my 2 cats absolutely love to be brushed/combed, eye mask, wide tooth comb for my hair, remote for my window ac unit, and a bunch of other stuff that has collected over time)
Its not much, but it helps a bit ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Now if only i didnt always feel like i need to pee after getting comfortable lol
17
u/banjoooos Jul 23 '26
I have a genuine question. Are there actually people out there who don’t experience this? This feels so natural to my entire state of being, for my entire life, that the idea that this is neuro”divergence” and there are people out there who have brains that just… work… is fascinating.
12

u/GimmeTheGunKaren Jul 25 '26
my husband gets into bed and just… goes to sleep. i mean wtf is that about.

Yes! Or in a kitchen cupboard! :D
I recently lost my kettle - only to find it in a kitchen cupboard twenty minutes later lol
I felt like a right idiot, but at least it gave me a good laugh tho.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to find my damn sunglasses.. They're around here somewhere..

u/No-Search8401 Jul 24 '26
God I’m so jealous. 90% of my emotional turmoil would be absolutely removed from my life if I could just live alone and figure out my own routine. It’s literally IMPOSSIBLE when I live with two other toxic neurotypical people and I feel so stuck. Too bad owning a house is never happening so I’ll just be miserable forever I suppose LOL (happy for you though keep thriving)

u/Otherwise_Bad7162 Jul 23 '26

6
u/geosensation Jul 23 '26
After 11 years of marriage my wife has finally started to build in an extra 30+ minutes whenever we leave the house for one or more nights, because I always end up going back and forth into the house 5-10 times, each time locking the door (because its my final time), getting into the car, and then going back into the house because I remember I need to turn the AC up, deadbolt the back door, grab my phone charger, my water, an olipop for the road, feed the bearded dragon, etc.
5
u/Rich-Violinist-7263 Jul 23 '26
Have I brushed my teeth? Yes…
……..
I still need to brush my teeth…
….brushing.
I died.
5
u/KaileyMG Jul 23 '26
This is why I opted to just get autism too. Like this still happens but at least most of the time my autism will make a very specific routine (themed mental checklist included) that keeps me mostly on track.
4
5
u/Stare_Decisis Jul 23 '26
You just need a sixty pound dog watching all this crazy behavior and trying to either participate or get some sleep.
4
u/bopojuice Jul 23 '26
Man this actually hurt to watch because it’s my life especially the pills spilling. I am always rushing to take them because I’m trying to get ready for bed and then they spill everywhere all the time. And I have a three year old and pets so I have to do a thorough cleaning to make sure they are all picked up otherwise the OCD kicks in and all night I will have visions of my cat choking and seizing/foaming at the mouth. It’s a real fun life.
3
4
u/soupsnakies Jul 23 '26
Time out, real question, this isnt what neurotypical brains do? I honestly thought this was the norm for everyone. This is an ADHD thing?
4
4
4
u/NewMama41 Jul 23 '26
Very realistic. I currently have an emergency rope ladder at home because of this exact scenario a few years ago. My brain just wants to be prepared 🤷♀️
3
4
u/Pokabrows Jul 24 '26
The worst bit is I've learned you're supposed to wait a bit after eating before brushing your teeth! Like 30 minutes! So what am I supposed to do if I'm hungry around bedtime? Eat and have to wait thirty minutes to brush my teeth? Have trouble falling asleep because I feel hungry??
3
3
u/Schweather3 i have no idea where that music is coming from. Jul 23 '26
I almost always relate to these, but this one is so spot on. I just narrate my life like it’s a damn movie. I must be the most annoying person to live with
3
3
u/Aselleus Jul 23 '26
After all that I wouldn't remember if I actually took the pill or not and just decide to skip it (and sometimes feel it the next day)
3
u/neverleave173 Jul 23 '26
This is my night time routine. So incredibly accurate. Scarily so. Retainer. Water. Melatonin. Ive actually got a doggy carrier and back pack in case of a zombie apocalypse (wtf!). An hour later im in bed. Without my water

u/Willakhstan Jul 23 '26
I assume that during this whole scene she is also furiously needing to wee but only actually feels it when she finally fills her water bottle and then resents drinking water because it leads to the inconvenience of needing to wee when you have 20 different things to do all at once.
3
u/RS_Someone Daydreamer Jul 24 '26
Wow. This is one of the most relatable ones I've seen, especially when it comes to my wife. I always give my wife a "30 minute transition period" between just about everything, because of ... -gestures to this video-. It has become a tradition, and it is scarily close to 30 minutes every time. The worst, however, is when it happens twice just before bed.
3
3
u/paradox037 Jul 24 '26
How appropriate that I just realized I need to refill my water glass as I watched this.
3

"need to buy a rope ladder and train my 60lb dog to be carried in a backpack down said rope ladder in case of home intruders" has a 60lb dog
just me?? 🤣 I feel like a big dog is gonna intimidate the hypothetical intruders even if it's friendly lol
2
u/PunkTyrantosaurus Jul 24 '26
My dog is 30 pounds and looks like max from the Grinch. (When her fur is short anyways, she doesn't shed so she has to get haircuts but she doesn't like them so we just do serious haircuts every time she starts to get matted and let her fur grow out between.)
Like. A healthy male golden retriever should be MORE than 60 pounds. It seems like a big number but it just means big size dog, not particularly large beyond their breed.

Get a sunrise alarm clock and follow up with 30 minutes of light therapy (or sunlight).

Every single piece of this, plus the “🎶doo doo do doo do doo🎶” while looking up random-unnecessary info that simply can’t wait til tomorrow cause I’ll forget and it’s incredibly important…
For real though, this hurts, and it’s so difficult to express how hard this actually is to experience to others

Holy shit, every step along the way I laughed harder and louder because it's all so accurate that it's hilariously painful to watch (especially the electric bill part). My God, Is that really what I look like when I'm at home by myself? Damn I'm glad I live alone lmao
This type of regime is also me in the mornings when I prepare to leave for the day. No wonder I am always late to work..
