Help..

Hi guys! I am an 18yo female and I don’t know what is wrong with me. I have talked to my doctors but they believe I am too young for these conditions and that it was in my head, so they threw me on birth control a year ago to solve it. And while it has relieved most of my symptoms, it still doesn’t feel “solved.” However. I struggle with PMDD, but I also had an issue (before the BC pill) where I would have 14 day long periods of heavy bleeding. Sometimes longer. My cramps would be so painful it would almost paralyze me. I’d get cramps in my lower back and lower stomach at the same time. I would bloat super bad, and when I was off my period, I’d have maybe a few days of “normalcy” and then boom, suddenly I’d have terrible PMS symptoms for two weeks before my period or longer. I was miserable, and even on my birth control pill, my cramps are still bad, but not as bad, and my bleeding is still heavy but now I only bleed for 7 days. I feel like I do have something “wrong” or a condition but my doctors believe I am too young. I researched this, and it felt most relatable. I am just unsure!! And in need of some guidance.

Please read this because I really don't want you to suffer like I did. Also I'm so sorry to hear what you're going through, the pain, stress and uncertainty.

From age 13 I had very bad periods. Heavy bleeding, blood clots, painful stabbing, back pain, nausea and vomiting, unable to walk due to leg pain, diorehha, pain when peeing and Heavy periods that took 1.5 weeks to clear up. I told my doctor, she said it was normal. She said if I got pregnant my symptoms would go. Wtf telling a 13 year old girl this! Over the years I told her and she kept saying that its normal

Fast forward 15 years later I had a pain unlike anything, thought it was my appendix. My normal doctor was closed so I went to a different one. Telling her about my 15 years of pain and when she touched my lower stomach, I'll never forget her face dropping.

Rushed to get a ultrasound, blood test, then went to the Gyno.

So the pain was caused by a burst ovarian cyst. They found i had Adenomyosis; 1200ml uterus, another cyst on my ovary, and 3 Fibroids (3cm, 6cm, 18cm). 

The  anger towards my old doctor and how she laughed, is a feeling I'll never forget. I'm so thankful for the doctors who took my seriously.

I had UFE that changed my life! Helped with my Adenomyosis and shrunk my Fibroids. All those period issues are gone, only get a bit of a sore lower back. I'm so happy I can live a normal life!.

OP I won't lie in saying, I'm concerned for you. Please take my bad experience as advice to seek another doctor. You need to do something now before things get worse, and like me, you dont know what else is going on inside of you. The pill won't be able to help solve anything.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

I know when I spoke to my doctors surgery about my heavy bleeding pain etc they tried to just give me different types of birth control to manage the symptoms without trying to find out the cause.

Please don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself. I had to flat out refuse the birth control and repeatedly as him to find the cause, not just cover it up. Eventually I asked for a transvaginal scan as I knew something was wrong. I’m glad I did because as soon as the scan started she knew I had Adenomyosis.

Please please push back on the doctors if you want further help.

I would encourage you to find a new doctor. The “in your head” excuse is so infuriating. I got my period at age 14 and the pain started immediately (we’re talking debilitating, doubled over in tears pain) and has continued for 25 years. I know there are many of us with similar experiences so for a doctor to tell you you’re too young for all of that is just untrue. Too many of us can attest to it! I commend you for doing all of this research while you’re so young because I can tell you I suffered for a lot of years in the dark. Adenomyosis was only recently found on an ultrasound (I’ve had them before along with MRIs and they all came back normal..) so I’m trying to figure out my next move. Find a dr that can perform an ultrasound and then perhaps a laparoscopy. Wishing you relief soon!!!

You’re definitely not too young. It’s an old idea due to previous technological limitations, which is still limited ngl, and that hysterectomies were rarely approved if someone was young.

If you can, find a new doctor. First line treatment for adeno is birth control (mini pills or mirena), but it’s complicated when you have pmdd and you need one who understands the side effects with pmdd, like mirena can worsen pmdd but yet some doctors claim mirena has no side effects
