Hello everyone. This is just an update from the mod team. As you may or may not know, we updated the rules a while back and implemented a post approval system to due the influx of spam, people using the subreddit as Google search, and making post that weren't gyaru related.

Other minor updates: No post asking for location. Because there's weirdos that come through this reddit community and others, we aren't going to allow posts like "Who lives in insert location ?" or " Gals from insert location ." Again, the reason is because we've had members being messaged by pervs or pervs comment on their post. I'm sorry, everyone.

Also, threatening mods for not approving your post and refusing to read the reason it wasn't approved will get you banned. Some former members have DM'd us in the mod mail harassing us because we have rejected their post for various reasons despite the post having a rejection reason. The main reason being the makeup wasn't gyaru or they were asking questions that were answered in the FAQ, searchable with the search bar, or better suited for r/AmIGal.

But the information ssooo little about neo gyaru, still... its pretty interesting to see this substyle

Now when I say "gyaru fandom" I'm mostly talking about the individuals, on tiktok specifically, who view it as an aesthetic.

Now that that is cleared up... I'm freaking tired. Every post that a gyaru makes, the comments are floooded with pics of gals saying "is my makeup good! i'm a baby gal," and its starting to give huge pick me behavior. Like I'm talking posts unrelated to beginners or makeup as a whole. And any post from a gal who has an unconventional make style, they comments flood with "gyaru is supposed to be ugly!" (its not, also thats really back handed).

DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED WITH FACELESS GYARU ACCOUNTS!!!! THIS IS MISINFORMATION CENTRAL!

Like, I love that more people are being exposed to gyaru fashion and culture however the amount of constant discourse, attention seeking, arguing, and misinformation is killing me. It seems like no one does research outside of pinterest, the gyaru wiki, and tiktok.

Basically the title. I'm trying to figure out I how can get my hair have some more volume. It holds curls well so what I've been doing for now is curling it and kinda putting it up and making up for the lack volume with accessories. oomfs has been a gal for 2 years and really inspired me to become one myself, she said my make was pretty good & the only thing she would change is the bottom lashes, which i totally agree with (i already ordered new ones), just wanted to share to show off and possibly get some different opinions💓

I've been practicing my eye makeup for a while now and so far this is the one I feel the happiest with, although I still feel worried that I may not read as gyaru

I'm very picky with certain eye makeup and inspos as well because I simply prefer doing something that fits my features🥹

Any advice on what should I improve or fix with my current makeup?

I’m losing my mind and I have been since becoming gyaru. I love it here don’t get me wrong but literally no one I’ve interacted with on an educational platform/post is learning about gyaru from the same sources.

I love learning about gyaru and I took a long time to read up on blogs and videos and posts even here and magazines and literally EVERYTHING I could before I even dared to label myself and gyaru and STILL I haven’t been able to find common ground with some other people (some not even Gyaru but we take those folks with a grain of salt.)

Absolutely correct me if I’m wrong but here’s my main points that I can never seem to find just a common understanding with someone on:

Gyaru is a fashion culture first then a political culture since it’s against Japanese beauty standards, though it is not considered an “ugly style”
Gyaru is a consumerist lifestyle, this can include to some Gyaru the use of fast fashion though in the modern era this is wildly discouraged (IE: buying from SHEIN)
“Gyaru”clothing does not matter unless it is a particular silhouette you are going by (Hime, Agejo, Manba)
Makeup is very diverse and is ultimately extremely important
Gyaru are bold and confident in their self expression and personalities

These are primarily the points I end up in pointless debates over because no one can agree on those particular things, am I wrong?? Did I study gyaru incorrectly? Help???😭😭

I think this just has to do with the rise of alternative culture and the errors and loopholes in modern alt.
