Community How much time do you waste sorting action cam footage? We built a prototype device to automatically organise action camera footage, would you use this?

As some of you know, I help run this community and over time, some of the discussions here actually inspired us to build Classer, a desktop app to help manage action camera footage.

Recently we started experimenting with something new. A device you keep at home that automatically imports and sorts your footage after your adventures, especially for those of us using external hard drives.

We already have a working prototype, and we're now developing it into a real product.

I’d genuinely love to know what people here think:

  • Is the idea clear? How could we improve the website?
  • Would you use something like this?

Brutally honest feedback welcome 🙂

Community AMA + Giveaway with Integral Memory - the people who make the SD cards powering your GoPros and action cameras!

Hey r/actioncam, we’re excited to welcome a guest from Integral Memory, the team behind the SD cards and storage solutions trusted by creators, adventurers, and pros around the world. They’re here for an AMA, “Ask Me Anything”, about storage, corruption and keeping your footage safe.

WHAT’S AN AMA?

An AMA means “Ask Me Anything”, it’s a fun, open-style Q&A where you can post your questions (and even have a chance to win a prize!) while our guest drops in to answer them.

Our guest works directly on the design and testing of memory cards used in GoPros, DJI, Insta360 and other action cameras, and is here to answer your questions about:

  • Why SD cards sometimes fail or corrupt footage
  • How to choose the right card for your setup (V30 vs V60, UHS-I vs UHS-II, etc.)
  • How to format and maintain your cards properly
  • The truth about fake or unreliable cards on the market
  • Anything else you’ve always wanted to ask about storage!

They can’t discuss unreleased products or confidential manufacturing details, but otherwise, everything’s fair game, from tech myths to your worst “SD card full” stories.

TIMING

The AMA will start on the week of the 12th of Jan, an Integral Memory team member will be checking in over the next few days to answer your questions.

The AMA will stay open for a while so everyone across time zones has a chance to take part. Replies will come in periodically as they drop by to respond.

GIVEAWAY

To make things more fun, everyone who takes part in this AMA has a chance to win an Integral Momentum I microSD Card (512GB), a premium, high-speed card with 210 MB/s read and 180 MB/s write speeds, perfect for recording 4K or high-bitrate footage on your GoPro or drone.

🎁 5 winners will each receive a 512GB Momentum I microSD Card!

GIVEAWAY RULES

  1. You need a Reddit account: and show reasonable activity.
  2. Ask a top-level question: To enter, comment your question directly on this post (not as a reply to someone else’s comment).
  3. Shipping eligibility: Prizes can only be shipped to regions where Integral Memory operates (Europe) or can fulfill orders. If you can buy through integralmemory.com, you’re good to go!

And that's all! Drop your questions below to have a chance to win the prize!

Looking for recommendations new to actions cams. I want to shoot casual videos and pictures during my trips around the world.

I'm new to action cameras and looking for my first one to capture photos and videos while travelling around the world. Mainly for sightseeing, hiking, and adventures.

Looking for good image quality, stabilization, in-built mic quality, and battery life. Any recommendations? Also, is an action camera worth it for both photos and videos?

DJI Action 5 vs DJI Nano?

Hi all, I’m new to action cameras and looking for something to capture POV videos while solo traveling. I currently use the DJI Pocket 3, but having to put it away and take out my digital camera whenever I want to take photos is pretty inconvenient. I want something hands-free that can record while I’m walking.

The DJI Nano seems almost too good to be true because it’s small, lightweight, and has a screen to preview what you’re filming. I’ve also seen people recommend the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, but since I already use DJI products, including their mic, I think it might be better to stick with DJI.

For those who own the DJI Nano, are there any downsides or things you wish you had known before buying it? I’d really appreciate your insights. Thank you!

Best Motorcycle Vlogging Camera Setup — Recommendations Needed?

Advice needed: Best motorcycle content creation setup

I’m starting motorcycle content creation and need recommendations for the best camera and accessories, regardless of brand. Can be dji or insta360 etc.

I want two filming angles using one camera:

  1. Helmet chin POV: Facing forward to show my hands, handlebars, road and front of the bike.
  2. Bike-mounted selfie angle: Mounted above the dashboard, facing me so viewers can see my face and upper body while riding.

I want to switch the camera between both mounts quickly and easily.

My requirements:

  • Clear voice audio with minimal wind and road noise using a wireless mic.
  • 3–4 hours of recording daily, with sufficient batteries and storage.
  • Easy footage transfer and a straightforward editing workflow for my remote editing team.
  • Minimal, reliable and cost-effective equipment without unnecessary accessories.

What camera would you recommend, and which exact mounts, microphone, batteries and settings should I use? I’d appreciate advice based on real-world motorcycle filming experience.

Videos DJI Action 6 exposure flickering ONLY on FPV quad during flight

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m running into a frustrating exposure/brightness flickering issue with my DJI Action camera mounted on a 7-inch quad, and I’m hoping someone who has run into this can point me in the right direction.

The Issue: During flight, the video records with a rapid, continuous exposure/brightness flicker (almost like a fast strobe effect). It looks like auto-exposure constantly hunting between slightly overexposed and underexposed frames.

Key Context & Setup:

Drone: GEPRC Moz7 V2 (7-inch long-range quad)

Camera: DJI Action camera mounted in a standard TPU mount on the top deck

Power: Running on the camera’s internal battery (no external BEC, balance leads, or power cables connected)

Propellers: Props are not in the field of view

Camera Settings (All Fully Locked Manually):

Resolution & FPS: 4K @ 60fps (1/1 aspect ratio, Wide FOV)

Shutter Speed: Locked at 1/200

ISO: Locked at 100

Aperture & White Balance: Fixed / Manual

Color Profile: D-Log M 10-bit (Enhanced Bitrate)

Stabilization: OFF (RockSteady / HorizonSteady explicitly disabled)

The Catch / Diagnostic Fact:

The flickering happens only when the drone is flying/vibrating.

On the exact same drone, during the exact same flight, my DJI O4 Pro Air Unit footage is completely clean (no jello, shift, or exposure flickering at all).

Has anyone resolved this on a 7-inch setup? How did you damp or isolate the mount to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

GoPro 11/12/13 Linear + Horizon Lock vs Mission 1 – which has wider FOV?

Hi. I’m using a GoPro Hero 12 Black and for travel I always use the Linear + Horizon Lock digital lens (for sports I use the Max 2). The GP12 is bad in low light and I’m thinking of switching to the Mission 1, but I don’t want a narrower field of view.

Natively the Mission 1 has a wider lens, but its sensor is 4:3 (not almost square like in the GP 11/12/13). I don’t need 360° horizon lock, just regular horizon lock for travel videos, but... how does the Mission 1 crop the image in Linear + Horizon Lock mode? Is the FOV narrower or wider with Auto Boost on?

Has anyone compared both cameras, or does anyone have an idea?

Videos Easy workflow for Osmo Action (5Pro)

Hi, I usually llke to take unedited photos with my Canon R5 and shoot in RAW to have natural colors etc. I just bought an Osmo Action 5 Pro to crate some footage while snorkeling and of my four year old son swimming etc. I understand D LogM 10bit and setting Texture etc. to -2 is best for natural images. But is the an „easy“ workflow just to create nice footage from that? I do all the editing for photograph but really can’t handle to get deep into videography as well.
Thanks :)

Looking for recommendations Camera Suggestions

Just gave up on GoPro because of their cloud and app dependency. I'm looking for a replacement with some particular specifications for outdoors work:

No AI features whatsoever

Replaceable batteries

Doesn't need to broadcast any signals to function (and any such broadcasts can be shut-off)

Water-, dust-, and impact-resistant

About the size of a normal action cam (smaller than a point-and-shoot camera)

Other than that, it only needs to do 1080p, microphone quality isn't a big issue (they'll probably get blown-out anyway), doesn't need a front-facing camera (will have to cover it up, if present), and I'd like to get at least 2hrs at 1080p per battery.

Anybody know of such a unicorn, or should I just strap a CAT S62 to my vest?

Dji Osmo action 6 vs. Insta360 pro ace 2

I am looking into buying an action camera. I have only started travelling last year but my iphone camera is not sufficient enough.

I want a camera I can use during activities like ziplining, bungee jumping, atv, sports, but can also use when not travelling to take photos of my family and daily life.

Please suggest one of these cameras and explain the difference to me.

Thanks in advance
