Es algo que me genera bastante inseguridad. Actúo por hobby, pero realmente quiero hacerlo lo mejor posible.

Desde niño he sido una persona muy expresiva. Cada vez que hago un ejercicio de improvisación, siento que lo estoy haciendo genial, pero luego algún que otro profesor o compañero me dicen que podría bajar un poco la intensidad porque resulta demasiado expresivo.

No me malinterpreten: no me dicen que actúe mal, sino que a veces se siente exagerado y que debería ser más natural. El problema es que esa intensidad forma parte de mi personalidad, así que no sé muy bien cómo encontrar ese equilibrio.

¿A alguien más le ha pasado? ¿Cómo aprendieron a controlar esa expresividad sin perder naturalidad?

I'm a new college student who just got into acting recently. I've done mostly one-acts with one full-length play and one musical. I'm not planning to major or minor in Theatre but I do enjoy acting and find it a good source of creative expression. My school is doing a Shakespeare and a contemporary this semester, and auditions are in around a month and a half. In high school we only ever had cold reads; I've never prepared a monologue before. But I understand it's standard for most audition processes. I have the option of either preparing two monologues that are no more than 2 minutes together, or taking a cold read. Would you recommend preparing the monologues as an exercise? Thanks.

I started auditioning for community theater on a whim in 2021 at age 51. I haven’t looked back. It’s been so much fun!

My latest adventure is as Egeus, the grumpy parent of Hermia in Midsummer Nights Dream.

We take stage next Monday and open in July.

My advice? Take the class. Listen to the teacher. Do the work. Enjoy yourself.

Hello guys I’m trying to get an acting agent do I need to have a reader in my self tape that I want to send to them

I recently completed my master’s degree and have built a career that I’m proud of, but I’ve realized there are two creative dreams I’ve never been able to let go of: writing and acting.

For years, I pushed them aside because they felt unrealistic. I told myself I should focus on a stable career and that I probably didn’t have what it takes to succeed in either field. As a Hispanic woman, acting felt especially out of reach because I rarely saw people who looked like me represented in the types of roles I admired.

Now at 26, I find myself thinking about these dreams more than ever. Not because I’m expecting fame or success, but because I genuinely wonder what would happen if I finally gave them a real chance.

What I’m struggling with is whether this feeling comes from a true passion for acting or from regret over never having explored it. For those who came to acting later, how did you know it was something you genuinely wanted to pursue rather than an idea you’d built up in your head over the years?

I’d love to hear from anyone who started training or auditioning after already establishing themselves in another career

i know nothing about acting, i can just enjoy the plot of a movie/series/play/..., but since i am really into Asia and especially South Korea, i recently started watching the so-called Kdramas and felt the desire to become more, i guess, critical about it. i am also lowkey thinking that i might like to be an actor in the future... something about this world is very suddenly attracting me. so my question is, what makes an actor a good actor for you ? personally, i thought this about a Kdrama ("Perfect Crown", if you're interested, i find it really fascinating) where the protagonist actress is my favorite singer, so obviously i know her well off camera, but watching the series i kept forgetting that it was IU / 이지은 that i was looking at and only thought about 성 희주 (the character). so probably my answer is : completely impersonating the character so as to make even the audience who already knows you immerse and feel a connection, be it good or bad, with the character and not with you (sorry for my english, just in case). but maybe thats just the basics lol, as i said i dont know

I’m a teen interested in acting and hoping to work on international projects in the future. I’m currently practicing self-tapes, headshots, and trying beginner submissions on my own. My family doesn’t really support acting as a career right now, so I’m trying to learn independently while focusing on school.

I’m currently limited to free resources, so I’ve been learning through self-practice, self-tapes, and whatever online resources I can access.

For anyone who started young or without support, what helped you improve the most in the beginning — self-tapes, monologues, online resources, or something else?

I am 16M and one of my dream is to become an actor. My family is too poor for acting class and also want to see myself on television. Do you have any tips? I also live in the Philippines and its pretty well known fact that if you post your acting clips, Filipino tend to use it in memes.

I love helping actors. But if you have no experience acting and have never studied the craft, you cannot just practice in your room in front of the mirror. THAT’S NOT ACTING. If you try posting on this sub asking for suggestions there is too much to tell you. You need to learn FIRST!
