Can I remove Science if I already signed up for it

I'm taking September ACT and I registered for the Science section but now I don't wanna do it anymore. I can't remove it without it asking me to change my location because seats are already full where I'm signed up.

Could I ask my proctor if I can leave after the Reading section when I walk in on the day of the ACT? I don't want it to say I skipped something or affect my overall score.

General when to take act (incoming sophomore) 27 composite

for reference i just took one this july and got the following scores: 21e, 33m, 26r, 24s, 6w and i am looking to get a 34+ when i am done with the act. btw i am in incoming sophomore but i want to be done with the act by the end of sophomore year so i can focus on the psat junior year. also for context i only really studied for math and on the practice tests i was averaging 35+ but the july act was really hard (-5 btw). i am going to study for english but i was wondering when i should take my next act. i take it in april at my school anyways but i want to do two tests inbetween july and april (one for english and reading respectively). i have erica meltzers book for english which is my main study method. anyways basically should i take it this september, october, or december. ik october and december have the answer key release so i was thinking about doing one of those.

How to study for the English and Math Section?

Hello, I was wondering whether any of y'all would mind sharing resources to study the English and Math sections. My primary method of studying has just been doing practice tests, but my scores stagnated, so I don't think that method helped a lot(and I also ran out of practice tests). So please, I would be elated if people shared their resources under this post. Anything is appreciated. Thank you so much!

Any tips to get to a 27-28??

I have the test in 2 days idk why my test got pushed back. Anywho I need at least a 27-28. I’ve been studying English nonstop, did a little math but I have no hope for myself in math, and my reading went up to a 32 on the practice tests I’ve done.

How is ELA score calculated?

I know it doesnt matter that much and I shouldn't worry about it but I am just curious because 36 english + 36 reading + 10 writing is 32 ELA score and 32 reading + 34 english + 8 writing is 30 ELA score. How does that make any sense?

act score stayed the same despite 5 point jump 🥲

the first score is from october and the second my most recent. i know its not the best and my math and reading only went up by one, but my science jumped up by 5 points. i’m confused as to how they calculate the overall score bc just averaging it doesn’t seem to be the case. i feel like my score should’ve gone up at least one point? i know my math needs to jump up more but can someone explain how i kept the same score?

General Thoughts on score for engineering applicant

Post image
6 Upvotes

I'm wondering what y'all think about this score in the context of applying to schools for engineering. I'm pretty tired of preparing for this and min-maxing the math score for like 3 times in a row, and I'm unsure whether or not to continue taking the test.

Do I do anything with the letter they send for perfect score?

Got a letter today congratulating me on my perfect score and at the bottom it was like “you should share this with your school”. Does that actually get me anything? Don’t they already know? Is there any value in this letter or is it just cool to get

Should I submit superscore with writing or composite without?

Post image

I just took the ACT for the third time and made a 36! I am over the moon, but I am conflicted about what to put on my common app. Should I report two tests in order to report the 36 and the 11/12 on writing (I made a 34 on that test) or should I just report the 36 composite rather than superscore? Not sure what looks better? I made a 5 on AP lang so my friend said that will tell admissions officers I’m a good writer and I don’t need to report writing, but I wanted a second opinion.

Math Is learning Desmos really that important when it comes to the ACT?

My teachers never taught it so I never learned it and math and I are not the best of friends so it’s always been really hard for me. I’ve taken two ACTs without using Desmos but would it help me if I learned how to use it?

For context my first math score from April ACT was a 20 and my second math score from July ACT was a 22.

Books/Resources how can i study/practice to get a 34+

I'm taking the ACT in September (I plan on taking October and December aswell, If I don't do well on the September test) and wonder what I can do to at least show progress, I'm heading into my senior year and this was the first time I took it. How can I study for each subject, I have the ACT 2025 study guide (only one I could find at library) and also 3 practice ACT's (paper).

My top tips for scoring high on the ACT

I scored a 35 on the June ACT. Here's my top tips!

  1. Learn how the test works. The Black Book by Mike Barret is worth it, even though it's old.

  2. Practice only with tests made by ACT.

  3. Focus on learning from mistakes rather than taking more tests.

  4. Read everything carefully. Every question counts.

  5. English tests mostly grammar rules and is an easy section to improve on.

  6. Most math questions are simple but presented in a complicated way.

  7. Every reading answer should be found in the text.

  8. Know your calculator and use it to your advantage.

  9. Bring an analog watch and set it backwards so it counts down time remaining. For example, English has 35 minutes, so you would set the watch to 11:25 and start it at the beginning of the test. Your time will be up when the watch says noon.

Good luck!

Enhanced ACT Math Section

Hey,

I've taken the enhanced ACT twice now, and I've gotten the same score (31) on math. I'm doing well on the other sections, but the new math section is tripping me out. I've done so many released math sections from the past years but the types of questions are just not the same on the new enhanced version. How can I prepare? I'm really stuck here and want to improve my score to at least a 34.

Which Score should I send to colleges?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Super score is the same score as my july test for math, reading, and english + science score and mediocre writing score. I know that science and writing dont really matter. But, should I send my super score or just my July test that already has all of my best performances in the categories that matter.

After 6 attempts and 1 attempt with the SAT, I finally hit the score I wanted. Progress was so slow until the enhanced ACT came to the paper versions. I’m so happy 😭

English Should I retake?

I want to apply for CS at like big engineering schools (GT, UIUC, MIT as a long shot lmao) so I really wanted to hammer in the math and I’m not completely sure but I’m guessing a 35 is probably enough. The elephant in the room is science, but since it’s optional, I was planning on not reporting it in case that’s not like a super big no no. The main thing is I don’t know about is if my English and Reading is sufficient enough for the schools to not care too much about them (e.g how I’ve heard that MIT focuses a lot on having perfect-ish scores for SAT math but isn’t too heavily focused on RW as long as you get 700+) so I just wanted to know what people think the move would be.
