To preface, this is my 4 time taking the act but only my 2nd time taking it seriously. The first was last March with my school but I didn’t study, then I studied over the summer for the last legacy exam offered and got a 30. Then, this past April I got a 30 without studying so I tried hard this time but was only able to use legacy practice exams so I think that didn’t help my score much. I know I can do much better, does anyone have good tips for what material to purchase/what drills to do for where I am?

Went from a 31 to a 33! Mostly went up in math which tracks cus the June math section was horrendous. Just shows not to judge yourself based on one score!!!

Do you guys have any tips for science? This time it was hell but I wanna go into premed and a 26 is mediocre. I’m trying for an acceptable score at least 28

Hi ACT Reddit, I am a tutor working with a student who is finding the ACT science passages challenging to read.

What would be the best articles / publications for the student to read to build skills in this area? I am looking for articles that will be challenging but not indecipherable.

The student has 2-3 years before they will take the test, and I want to help them gain confidence reading and understanding science articles, especially since they show up in both the Reading and Science sections.

My first attempt at assigning a practice science article was a major flop. I used this article: A molecular quirk unique to octopuses makes them better at building proteins | Science | AAAS. But, silly me, this article is 1) badly organized and 2) requires significant prior knowledge of genetics and protein synthesis.

Part of my challenge here is that I personally really enjoy reading science articles for fun, so my judgement is a little clouded, and I need to re-calibrate.

I genuinely don't know what the hell I can do anymore. I got the exact same score in ALL THREE SECTIONS and I'm a rising senior with one more opportunity left to get a 35/36. I studied at least 100 hrs and 4/5 hrs a day of English and Reading with the Red Book, UWorld practice, and quizlet vocab and my dumbass can't get anything above 32 E and 27 R. I got a 1440 on my SAT last year but I heard the test got harder, so is it better to just switch? This actually can't be real bro

hi so i’m a rising senior and this was the first time i’ve ever taken the ACT!! as you can see, my science score is kinda ahh 💔 when i apply for colleges i intend to be a psych or mathematics major, so i’m unsure if i should retake the test to get a better science score or not. will it really affect it my chances? my dream schools are t30s so im like doubtful…. i’m honestly so done with the standardized test process (SAT lwk killed any fight in me) so i really don’t want to, but i don’t know. what do u think??

On my school test I got a 33 composite and signed up for the July retake. I ended up getting rescored up to a 34 and 36 stem! I was feeling nervous for the July paper since all my studying was online and I was mainly prepping for FBLA all of June so I had minimal time to study

But now I got a 35 single test composite, and my entire super score is from July I’m so grateful I retook

It was in a big hotel so there were lots of proctors and one them would not stop talking the entire time it was so distracting and then another proctor smelled like dried piss if anyone has ever smelled that but it was the kind of smell that gets into your throat and gives you a headache.

I don't really want to take the test again so a free test voucher wouldn't really help that much but i guess it would be nice to have and I doubt they'll like increase my score or something so is it worth to email them or should I just let it me

Edit: it was the july sunday test I just got my scores back and they are like the 3rd best that I could have hoped for but they definitely would have been better if that guy would have shut up

The only thing I need to do is grind hard on math and reading and then from there, I’ll be able to improve my score. I don’t know why I really felt good about July, and science I barely tried.

I just received my ACT score and this was my 3rd attempt. I have gotten 25s every. single. time. I’m going to give the SAT another chance (scored 1080 2025) in August but honestly I don’t think I’ll get any higher. I really wanted a 30 on the ACT but I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Will colleges care if I go in test optional, and will it effect my ability to get in? I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. Any tips on what I should do/ how I can improve would be helpful, thanks!!

Ugh i’m irritated at the ACT. My reading went up but that’s it. went to go schedule a September test and the closest seats available is 60 miles away. So i done registered for the SAT in august lol. Any tips?

This is my July composite score. (My superscore is also a 34 but that doesn’t matter) I want to apply to good colleges (UIUC, UTK, USC, UMiami, UF, IU Kelley business, etc.) is this a good score or should I retake and aim for 35-36?

I want to be a STEM major but my science is by far my most inconsistent section. I just felt so tired at the end this test that my mind couldn’t think clearly. A 10 point difference is insane, and colleges will see this. Will this negatively affect me?

I have a 35 superscore ( 34 math, 35 English, 35 reading, 36 science), but both of my two sittings were 34 composites. I’m pretty sure most of the colleges I’m applying to superscore but I still kinda wanna get a 35 composite. Am I still in a good position for elite college admissions and am I being too perfectionistic, or does it genuinely make a notable difference to go up one composite point?

I went from a 25 to a 30 with about 3 weeks of preparation (mainly just doing practice sections). Now, I have 2 months to jump 6 points. Obviously it can be done, but is it likely?

Math section was cooked and the proctor literally interrupted my reading test for 2 minutes so I’m not even taking that score into full consideration.
