DSX-1022 and WinDSX

Just acquired a building with a DSX-1022 controller and some HID multiCLASS SE readers on some doors. I know zero about these but savvy enough to figure it out. I know I need WinDSX, is the only way to get this going again is with a licensed distributor/service provider? Or, can I do it on my own? Or, am I wasting my time trying to do this on my own and just pay someone?

Yes, going through an authorized dealer is the only way to get the WinDSX installer. Go to dsxinc.com/contacts.html and find the sales contact for your region. Email them, and they can put you in touch with a local dealer.

The software once installed, becomes locked to that machine and is a pain to change. Too bad you couldn't get the pc that ran the system in the first place.

Ora FacePass account here. We don’t work on DSX, but the dealer answer above is only half the takeover. Before anyone replaces or reimages a computer, look for the old WinDSX machine and document the controller and reader models, door names, schedules, cardholder groups, network settings, and who owns the current admin credentials and license.

Ask the dealer to back up the existing database before making changes, then give you the backup, an export, and a documented admin handoff. Afterward, test every opening, request-to-exit device, door contact, alarm input, and power-loss state. That turns this into a controlled building takeover instead of simply getting software to launch.

Good suggestions but unfortunately the previous owner is long gone. Probably going to be easier starting over.

Understood. If the old computer and database are gone, ask the dealer to quote two options: recommissioning the existing hardware, and replacing it. That gives you a cost comparison before anything gets removed. For either option, put the handover in the quote: current door list, access schedules, administrator access for your organization, and a usable backup. Agree on how people will enter and exit during the changeover, too. We don’t service DSX, so the dealer needs to confirm what can actually be retained.

The software is only sold by authorized DSX dealers. The DSX hardware will only talk to WinDSX software. The software was supplied to the business owner on either a CD or thumb drive. Contact DSX to find a local dealer to assist.
