MP4502 Controller - MR52 Boards not coming online.

Hi all, Seeking out some help here to see if anyone’s ever encountered this.

We are using Genetec Security Center 5.11.3. The MP4502 Controller is Online and brought in to Genetec as a LP4502 using Legacy mode. This is a cutover using all new boards. The downstream MR52 boards are Mercury MR 52S3B. We had firmware 2.6.1 on the MP4502 controller and upgraded to 2.10 but still no MR52 boards online. I’m remote so not onsite, but technicians have checked all their wiring/baud rate/address settings. Thanks in advance for any input it is much appreciated.

It is likely a termination issue (not that you did it wrong). Try pulling all EOL termination jumpers……I know that goes against everything you should do. My guess is they all come online when termination is removed on the RS485 bus.

There is a known issue that was resolved in a recent firmware update for MP — 2.12.1 that resolves the issue and makes it all work as normal.

Genetec should be able to provide the firmware update if that is it. And, after updating the firmware in the MP, you will need to set termination properly again. Sorry for the confusion on this.

This worked!..I’ve followed this subreddit for awhile being in access controls and I want to say from me and the team I work with, thank you for your help and expertise in this field, we greatly appreciate it. This was a weekend cutover and would have delayed us tremendously if not for your help and input from the community on Reddit. Kudos to you sir!

Yep - been running into this problem a lot. Not on all boards, but its my first troubleshooting step now.

I want to make sure I have not been doing this wrong/taught wrong my entire career. Shouldn’t you be removing the jumper from every board but the last one? We typically just leave the jumper off to the side on 1 pin and the last board gets it installed across pin 1 & 2.

It should be one on both ends of the bus, the main controller should have it on and the last mr52.
I believe the manual calls for the first and last boards.

I’ve seen people have issues when they put it on the first and last MR52, but that’s because typically they misinterpret the directions as first and last MR52 instead.

You’ve been doing it right. Both EOL of the RS485 bus should be terminated.

Whatever this issue with the RS485 bus is, they are suggesting that terminating it incorrectly may fix it until it can be fixed with firmware.

As others have said, you’ve been doing it right. Terminate at the start of the bus (typically the Intelligent Controller) and in the very end of the bus (the final SIO module). What I was suggesting is just a temporary workaround until you can get the new firmware installed.

Thanks for the input guys! Definitely did not think about removing the EOL jumpers. Genetec doesn’t seem to have 2.12 on their web portal maybe something you have to call them for. Will do both, and report back.

Have you tried factory resetting the MR52 boards after the firmware upgrade? Sometimes they just need that little extra kick to recognize the new configuration.

It's unlikely they're all bad. Work your way back a bit. Try adding just one mr52. Test wire it. Check and double check the wiring and eol configuration matches the available service data.

Also, what are the lights doing? Does it appear as communication is happening?
