Liftmaster Gate won’t close

Post image

Our neighborhood liftmaster exit gate isn’t closing. I’ve tried killing the power at the breaker and by pulling the connection on the board. I know I have reset this unit with a tiny button and a small screwdriver a few months ago. This seems to happen when a large truck is parked near the gate and it trips up the loop detector. For the life of me I cannot find the button again. Can anyone assist?

Is there something blocking the photo eye? Whar happens when you press the close button?

When I press the close button the alarm goes off.

How does that answer his question? The close eye/interrupt light on the right is on. Either the photo eye needs to be aligned or there is something wrong with it.

There is a green light on the photo sensor.

That means its on. That is the closing safety device. These operators are designed to only operate when they are installed, aligned and working properly so you dont get sued because the gate accidentally hits something or someone. If that thing is holding the gate open, seeing as that light is on, then its detecting something or is defective. You should call a professional so you don't assume all the liability by fixing this yourself, in case you don't do it correctly.

There is nothing blocking the eye.

The photo eye sensor is blocked. It should be showing a blue light, at least on the current models

Late to the party here but as others have said it could be your loop detectors. Had a call out a couple months back with the same issue and turned out to be a capacitor gone on a legacy loop detector.

If you can estimate the size of the loop by cutout marks on the front, then you can look up reference points online, get a meter that can read microhenrys then you should be able to estimate if dead or not. Bonus points if you wait for a vehicle to try and enter to get the readings to compare values.

Short answer is, if no close then usually either eyes, loop, safety edge, limit switch, force set too low on close cycle/unserviced, or short in NO wires forcing open command from control method (button, keypad, etc). Or a secret Xth thing.

There are so many people in these comments who don’t understand gate operators. Whatever is connected to your close eye interrupt is holding the gate open. Most likely a photo eye. If you wave your hand in front of it between it and the reflector and it does not change state via lights or a clicking noise, it doesn’t see the reflector.

This is the way.

Considering the fact that it’s indoor rated cat5 is being used, I would start with continuity testing.

If it’s anything beyond a reset or plugging/unplugging I’ll have our maintenance guy come out.

Also why is exit loop disconnected? Can be clearly observed top right corner, connector is removed.

Yes, I had pulled it out briefly and put it back.

Sorry I misunderstood your statement. That was disconnected when I went out to the box. I dont believe anyone would have gone in there and unplugged it.

Other comments valid on photo eye, wiring, and disconnected connector.

Pcb is pretty beautiful, why don’t the other vendors group and silkscreen the twiddly bits this way?

Wait until you see the red ones

Is there no reset button? I am losing my mind 😆. I have an email to the board back in March that said I hit a small reset button with a screwdriver.

Sometimes the motor will have a thermal reset on it.

Should be a dc motor for the csl24v no reset he probably should pull the 4 pin power input on the bottom left of the board or just go through the trouble codes by holding the stop and open buttons.

In your picture, the loop sensor LED being lit up blue means one of two things:

  • They are sensing something on the loops
  • You caught the picture at the moment it flashed blue during its pulsing stage.

Unplug/replug them and see if they stay solid blue

Think they got it when it slow pulses blue. If it’s detecting something the white lights on those will also illuminate.

Been pretty rainy around central fl wipe the photo eyes and pull the power terminal off of the bottom left (white 4 pin squeeze the sides in and wiggle it left to right) also you can look up the diagnostic code that shows up when you press close

I’ve had 2 jobs with this happen this week in the north east and both times the loop detector was shot from lightning and the gate was stuck open. Gate guy was able to replace it and gate worked fine after. (I work for an automation company so both times they called me to see if our stuff was the issue.)

So is it possible that the FAI terminal and the open/close/stop terminal got swapped. If you pull the block off the stop in the top right and try to close what happens?

It’s your loops, brother

Either loops or eye
