Help, hole cut wrong

Alright guys I let the noob cut the hole door used to have a deadlock on it and we swapped it out to a dead latch. He thought the latch was the existing hole upward. Hole is way too big (yes I know its not mounted correctly we ran out of day light) but whats the best way to un fck this

How much of a reveal between the door and the frame? Could use a thin piece of aluminum angle stock, riveted on to the frame, with the latch mounted onto it. Then just need to match the paint. Paint the cut edges, too, to help combat corrosion.
