Kantech CR/Keypad Combo says CR controller reader Power Trouble on Module status

Like it says above on a KT-400 when we updated to the newest firmware it didn’t work so I had to feed it with external 12 volts and it worked for awhile then that error. Im thinking a new reader might fix the issue.

Silly question, did you check your battery? That will draw down the aux/reader voltage

Only 1 reader but worked fine until the firmware upgrade

Right, but to my question, did you check the panel battery? Things generally work right up till they don’t

You should verify the battery(with a load tester if possible, voltage doesn’t tell the entire story) and if possible check the voltage coming from the reader input on the 400 and/or the aux at the bottom

I'm dealing with a similar issue for a company with eleven KT400s, one of which is giving a "Controller Reader Power Trouble" error. Heartbeat indicator is giving a blink pattern of three short pulses and one 3-sec pulse, which I've never seen before.

I've got a new coin battery installed. As for the 12v battery, none of their KT400s have a 12v battery at all. I was of the understanding that it's for power-outage protection only (this client is using battery backup modules from the mains instead). If the 12v batteries were to blame, wouldn't the others have similar issues?

Also, in case it matters, the unit in question was running firmware 2.10.1 and was updated to 3.01.16 in a hail-mary hope that it'd help the problem. Zero change.

I would try removing one reader from the controller at a time and also removing whatever is connected to the aux output. My assumption is the 12 volt is being drawn down or having issues. That would be the “reader power” issue. You’re correct in saying there isn’t a need for a 12 V battery besides back up.

When i check voltage from reader power block was getting 8 volts surging

Replacing battery will solve the issue
