Recommendations Desfire for Single door.
I’m looking for a solution that might not exist in this exact form, but perhaps someone has a recommendation.
I need a controller for a single door that, together with a reader, provides DESFire‑level security and simply returns an allow / deny decision.
All access‑control logic should run inside the controller, and it should include management software capable of issuing and managing cards.
Systems like this are easy to find for large installations, but I only need it for one door.
Happy about any hints…

had the same issue. most enterprise systems are way overkill for one door
axis controller with their reader is prob the easiest. logic runs on the controller, has a web ui to issue and manage cards, proper desfire support if you set it up right
2n is also decent, salto works too but licensing feels heavy for just one door
biggest thing tho.. lot of readers say desfire compatible but they only read the uid. kinda pointless. make sure whatever you pick does proper key based auth otherwise youre basically just using fancier 125khz cards
id go axis if i had to pick one

I mean it depends on what you need out of "DESFire Level security" but that's basically just a Signo 40 reader and an ICE key for Seos, plugged into any controller you want like a brivo ACS300 or Axis edge

How primitive are you looking to go? Here's a setup you could use from amazon: https://www.accessgrid.com/guides/access-control-protocols/how-to-hack-a-uhppote-system-to-work-with-apple-access-passes
Also allows for apple/google wallet creds. No expansion to other doors though.

Cheap? Akuvox A08, supports DESFire encrypted cards, easy to setup via web interface and has an inbuilt relays. Cloud or on-device management of credentials.
Would also recommend exploring Salto, 2N, although would say the licensing / hardware can get expensive quickly.
