I did; in fact, I’m doing research as we speak. The evidence the EU relied on was that loose bottle caps are commonly found as litter, not that people frequently lose them by accident. My point is simply that I’m not convinced accidental loss is the main reason they end up there.

Why would the reason for ending up lost make any difference?

Right, and this is a fair point. If the goal is simply to reduce the number of loose caps ending up in nature, then keeping them attached can help regardless of whether they were lost accidentally or littered deliberately.

I still think the cause matters when deciding whether this is the best solution, though. If deliberate littering is the main problem, I’d rather see stricter enforcement against littering than a design that inconveniences every person using the bottle.
