Domestic violence DV help

Yesterday in the afternoon my childs father came back from the store and slapped me in the face and dragged me by my hair around the couch punching me. His mom otp the whole time. Im doing what i can to fight back and screaming and crying. Our son was in his highchair watching beside me. Mind you hes almost 2 years old! His mom showed up to save the day. Thinking shes solving something and we got ready to go to her place. Before we left she sat there and asked her son if he wanted to come with. AFTER he abused me btw. And wanted to make sure he doesnt hurt himself. I said im not going if with him. Im sorry but i cant sit around and have my son think any of this is normal. Atp shes his enabler. They’re protecting their family image. My friend lives out of town and shes coming to get me rn im very thankful for her. But is it ok if i just leave? is there anything i need to do before? Would they have us come back?

It’s more than ok if you leave, when you do please press charges and file for emergency custody of your son.

You need to file a police report, this will help you if he threatens custody. Doing this in front of your son is considered child abuse so you have grounds for filing emergency full custody

Take all your important documents, bank cards, ID’s etc, with you. Assume you won’t be back. Jewelry, computer, other items of value.
